Hi me and a friend are currently working on a Dungeon Master type game called "Dungeon Maker" the difference with this is that its going to be fully feature packed, the engine will support both 2d and 3d graphics so we need anyone who is good in either you can see the games website located
HERE (http://wishbone.is-root.com)
Im currently working on some ideas for how to layout the GUI which you can see the screenshots for below (WARNING LARGE FILES!)
The game will come with a fully featured editor so people can make there own Dungeon Master type games
Current Ideas for the the Game
Fully remake the following levels from
Bloodwych
Eye Of the Beholder
Dungeon Master 1 & 2
Support for multiple graphics sets
Custimizable GUI
Multi Lanuage support (i.e. elf and so on)
Real time weather effects and days time
Intelligent AI which you can communicate with
Theres also loads more you can get a early download from the wishbone website.
Please anyone whos interested in helping please contect myself at postmaster@madmunky.plus.com or wishbone who is the main programmer on wishbone2003@hotmail.com

Well cause no one answered me i thought i'd give 3D studio a crack and this is what Ive come up with. Remember I've never done any 3D before and also these are low poly so that will work in the game :)

I would be happy to help in anyway i can, not too much 2D thou,, but im sure i could assist in some way.
MadMunky: I must comment on the axe, well it looks more than a hammer than an AXE i say strech the edges furter out and make them sharper to get a better "Axe-Like" look. And for future reference try to use GI (Global Illumination) or Skylight (Brazil Direct And Indertect Illumination will work) for rendering the scenes, it will give the objects a more in-game feel than the spot light you have.
Tell me, what will the polycount limit be in this engine ? knowing that could REALLY help out.

I need to get back into modelling so I _might_ be able to help out. As per SteelViruZ's comment it would be useful to know
1. poly counts for objects and characters
2. max texture size and number per character
3. Engine capabilities - alpha mapping, two-sided textures and so on.
Drop me an e-mail if you want some help: spud@perversonality.com

1. poly counts for objects and characters
No to sure on this one, will have to see how much they slow down the game, but lower the better or faster :)
2. max texture size and number per character
512x512
3. Engine capabilities - alpha mapping, two-sided textures and so on.
Should he able to support all these things :)

guess the objects look nice, why don't you make a compilation of all the objects and post them in a single image? or even better, post some pictures from the game, that'll be much more interesting...anyone here can model a lowpoly piece of cheese or a chest, show something from the game like I try to do in my thread, that'll be more interesting...anyway, guess it's pretty useless to post in the game art forum, not many people take their time to reply here, so it wouldn't surprise me if people didn't reply more after you do that i dunno...nice interface though and good luck with the game

ehm..did you bother to read my reply? ok I'll be clear this time
spend more time working, less time posting, you manage to make a simple thing such as a wooden handle look bad since you don't know UVWmapping...if you're gonna post all this models, at least work on them some, I doubt that's the best you can do

I've never done any graphics work like it says on the first post all these images are my first atemps and im just posting them so people can tell me how to improve them and give example on how im getting stuck like the mapping of the axe.
Heres some sheilds i've done, please comment

IMO these models are WAY too high-poly. I'll work on some models in my spare time. I've always enjoyed making midevil times stuff. Can't guarantee anthing good, but i'll try to keep the count under 100.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. You guys are taking o a big project, and the last thing you need is a 2,000 poly model to deal with.
What format you need the models in?

Thanks at the moment 3ds files are support but just to keep things quick we are just using 2d images for most things are the moment till the game is more sorted then maybe upgrade to 3ds files for all the objects but please feel free to make any 3ds files and email them to me at spam@madmunky.plus.com.

Hiya! I should finally have some time to do some 3D stuff over the weekend. Work has been somewhat busy recently so I've not been available until now.

OK, made a start today instead of yesterday... The poly count might be a little high at 736 polygons, but there's a couple of places that I can optimise on the model if needed. Think I will texture this one first and then you can see how it looks in the engine...

Was this the sort of thing you had in mind or did you want more "real-life" style monsters?

sort of slow anyway! A couple of in progress texture shots. The texture is currently 1024x1024 but the model still looks gruesome with it rescaled to 512x512...
Hope you don't want too many young kids playing the game ;)

Now, I know these questions might not sound related to game art, but they really are.
1. What program are you using to create this game? Are you programming from scratch, or using a "Canned Program" such as DarkBasic or 3D Game Maker?
2. Have you clocked whatever engine you are using to get a relatively accurate polys per model you can have?
3. What kind of models are you wanting, 3D art is great, but you need to make a list of models in order of importance of what you need models, and what for. Same with the 2D.
4. I am working on a game myself, so I probably won't help, however, if you do have any questions for 3DSMAX or general 3D, I'm more than willing to help. Just write me here, or email me at: gaer@pacbell.net

Here are some ingame video shot so you can kind of see what Dungeon Maker is like (Sorry about the sizes and qaulity but if anyone know how to do it any better let me know) Dungeon Maker normally runs on my machine at 50 to 60fps.
Bloodwych: This is the map im working on with the old Bloodwych graphics set.

Test: This is just a little test map to try new objects and stuff

Castle: This also is just another test map.
