Thread Naming: Your Name – Good vs Evil
Keep all questions in this thread

Good is morally excellent; virtuous; righteous; pious: a good man. Satisfactory in quality, quantity, or degree: a good teacher; good health, of high quality; excellent. Right; proper; fit.

Evil is the violation of, or intent to violate, some moral code. Evil is usually seen as the dualistic opposite of good. Definitions of evil vary, as does the analysis of its root motives and causes, however evil is commonly associated with conscious and deliberate wrongdoing, discrimination designed to harm others, humiliation of people designed to diminish their psychological well-being and dignity, destructiveness, and acts of unnecessary or indiscriminate violence.

In a battle between good and evil, who will win? Once again, you are asked to pick sides, either that of good, or that of evil.

DUE DATE: February 5th, 11:59 pm GMT - SUNDAY

Idea:

Create an every-day character to depict good, or evil. This means, instead of your typical main character, you need to create a side character. Example for good could be a cop, example for evil could be a thug or gangster. If you want to switch it up some, you could create an evil cop, it’s up to you how you go about this, but the viewer should be able to tell if your character is good, or evil.

Poly limit:

8,000 Tris Total. You can do whatever you want with these, just don’t get carried away and don’t exceed the 8,000 Tri Limit. Remember, the limit tells you where to stop, there is no minimum, so use as much of the limit as you see fit.

Textures:

-1 x 1024 Color Map
-1 x 1024 Reflection Map
-1 x 1024 Specular Map
-1 x 1024 Specular Color Map
-1 x 1024 Normal Map
-1 x 1024 Bump Map
-1 x 1024 Opacity (transparency) Map
-1 x 1024 Glow map
-1 x 1024 Glossiness map.

You can not chop it up into multiple smaller textures.

Textures can be hand-painted or you can use photographic sources. Do what you do.

Pedestals/Stands:

You do not have to create one, but if you do, understand that there is no texture or tri limit. You can go as crazy as you want, or keep it basic.

Restrictions:

-Joint entries are prohibited for this challenge

-Your entry must be specifically created for this challenge. Do not use any pieces from previous personal works.

-There are no lighting restrictions.

-All Game/Render Engines are allowed.

-You must create a W.I.P Thread to show off your work in progress.

Final Pictures:

Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry):

- 1 x Winning shot. This image should consist of your object depicted in its most awesome angle.

- 1 x Beauty shot of your object. Feel free to put multiple angles of your object or just one big version or your object on this page. You are free to do whatever post effects you like on this image. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you.

- 1 x Construction shot of your object. Feel free to put multiple wire frame shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you.

- 1 x Texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet.

- Concept Sheet (if you have one)

Good luck everyone!

question: could it be only a portrait? like an in-game unit portrait in starcraft.
in game, but without a body? or would that be cheating of some sort?

This is more of a character competition, so in this case, you would need to do the whole body.

I'm thinking of a fat pig, in a really expensive suit, with a big cigar (and by pig I mean the animal)

is that okay to do? couldn't find out from the text if its okay to go in to a bit fantasy direction

i'm beginning to feel like "every-day character" is a key word here :D

Well as I read it (and correct me if I am wrong), we are making a "back drop character" for a setting in this case, it wouldn't be a boss type or the hero character. I think of it as the innocent bystanders or the not so innocent cannon fodder in a game. The people that run away screaming covering their heads, or the faceless minions of evil that appear in hoards and die without you ever knowing their name or why they did what they did. (The Supper Villain's thugs in the old Addam West Batman for example.)

The thing that stands out is that you have to be able to tell in an instant that they are Good or Evil. No ambiguity in that bit. So as an example "Bad Cop" has to look evil and "Good Cop" looks good. Bad Cop could be fat, ugly, sloppy, and done in darker color shades, or any other cliche for being "evil"; while by that same standard then the Good Cop is athletic, clean cut, tall, good looking and cast in bright warm tones.

Like I said that is my take on it, and I could be reading it all wrong.

The type of character you make is up to you.

is that okay to do? couldn't find out from the text if Ashburnham Insurance (http://www.ashburnham-insurance.co.uk/employers-liability-insurance.html) is okay to go in to a bit fantasy direction

If you do make the pig then please let us know because i think that it would be fantastic to do :)
