Not actually sure if i'm going to have much fire (if any) in the scene, so my title might be misleading but I want to try a London based style of render..... probably not gonna be able to achieve realistic elements but gonna try my hardest...... texturing will be the biggest challenge for me on this one.
So had to make a start somewhere.... kinda building elements or props for the scene that I can place where I like etc so here's a billboard sign to start me off..... will probably add some minor details later like shattered/hanging spotlights.

Advanced Render 3 with Ambient Occlusion in Cinema 4D R12, i've got about 3-4 lights with area shadows, and a simple gradient background :)

Updates coming soon, alot of dynamics and knife cuts to try and destroy nice models, then cleaning up the models as if at all possible I like to reduce triangles or ngons. It's funny with what I've created so far i'm making over half of it like I would and it looks nice, then I have to start destroying the model and making it anything but perfect lol.

man you are busy how are you doing the vines "ivy generator" ?
ClassicGamer-3DT
31-01-2012, 03:19 PM
No it kept crashing on me alot and so I created alot of splines, then converted my to poly's then used the polygon brush tool and "painted" the splines onto the ruins. The only problem with that method is it's not reversible. There's only two sets of vines, the creeper that's going up the left building, then that's reversed and placed onto the right hand side wall then the centered vine that creeps up the bus is a separatly made vine...... will try ivy generator again if I can as it saves a huge amount of time!

Some logo's for the ruins of Piccidilly Circus...... will more than likely have the main Circus building submerged only showing these logo's, they are in a clean state at the moment... will destroy them and damaged them later.

02-02-2012, 04:27 AM
Man you put this together insanely fast... I'd be quaking in my boots thinking about texturing it.
All the elements are looking awesome so far, but one thing I noticed is that the lines in your composition pull the eye pretty strongly to the bottom right corner. You're probably not finished adding assets yet, but it might be nice to have another element on the right side to balance things out and lead our eyes back into the scene.
Haha, take my opinion with a grain of salt though... I'm not exactly a master of composition...

Thanks for C&C's.... at the moment i'm trying to see how everything fits into the scene, looking into using some environment fog or at least DOF but the DOF i'm using in C4D isn't looking great at the moment, i'm looking into DOF Pro and ZBlur and seeing how they work.... I could do it in post with a depth map but prefer to see if I can manage it with a raw render.
Also been modelling alot of rubble and such and been creating some rubble shaders that differ for all the debris.... more to come later on I hope.

glovvorn
02-02-2012, 10:37 PM
Looking good CG! That building in the background is a little too blurred out by DoF imo (I know it's still WiP), but I love all the details you have in this scene so far!

Just had a panic as the scene I was working on last night refused to render and kept crashing & I had to restart C4D....... kept doing it and doing it and thought i'd lost my progress. I save incrementally, but last's nights save which would have been version 006 of the ensemble scene must have been corrupted, I could still open the scene, so I copied everything including camera and light setup and pasted into the last working version of the scene and saved and thank goodness it's ok again phew!!

Changed the lighting to something more subtle and warmer, and now working on some landscape terrain, hidden the rest of the geometry for the time being & toned down the DOF.

Here's an update with what I am working on at the moment.......... i've made a small start on Westminster's Big Ben Clock Tower or what is usually known as The Westminster Tower. Big Ben actually refers to the bell within, this will more than likely feature in the distance somewhere....but i'm toying with the idea of having is partially or fully destroyed.... maybe even on the right hand side of the ensemble composite.... but geographically that wouldn't correspond correctly with the ruins of Piccadilly Circus etc.... but then again I may be allowed some artistic licence there :)

Bit of a bugger to model actually, that intricate almost lacework clock face was tricky at first and it's still not perfect but this model won't be that close to the camera so I think I could be forgiven for not being 100% perfect. :wall:

I was thinking how much of that detail are u actually going to see??? U could just use displacement maps etc for the details???
But then again modelling everything is good practice hahaha :)
ClassicGamer-3DT
04-02-2012, 10:22 AM
Yeah I thought the same, besides if I change my mind and have Big Ben closer to the camera it's already modelled.
rocneasta
04-02-2012, 06:27 PM
Planning on any broken down traffic lights and signs (i know you have those models from recent SMC)
Plus since i'm seeing this as blown sand/dust there should be some on the models - particles, or textures perhaps. Debris blowing in the wind - motion blurred...
ClassicGamer-3DT
04-02-2012, 07:33 PM
Not sure yet, might have to go donw the multipass option though as my scene started to crash today and the viewport seriously slowed down.
The terrain might be more broken earth/grass/rubble than sand dunes though.
rocneasta
04-02-2012, 09:08 PM
your scene is getting more and more complex and fast :)
one thing that came to mind is that grass out of DOF right hand side - looks like a just sprouted grass. doesn't fit into the deteriorating environment.
Might now be so much visible after you compile all your assets into the final scene.

Still working on it.... please excuse my poor compositing of the fire :(
What's been changed? - Added in a partially destroyed clock face of Big Ben, moved and smoothed a few area of the terrain, played with shaders for the terrain & ruins closest to the camera, tweaked the DOF, added a sky & removed the plantlife as it sucked!

Thanks alot matey, yeah that's pretty good but the rest needs alot of work lol. Not sure if i'm compositing the fire correctly in photoshop, it's set to overlay at the moment but switch to multiply and turn the opacity down..... not sure.
ClassicGamer-3DT

rocneasta
06-02-2012, 07:06 AM
speaking of fire, you just need to alter the objects close to it (to the eye not necessarily as seen in the scene) so they get warmer colours on them, fire glow

This challenge is really tempting, I have a rough concept but I'm not sure if it's enough that I'll be able to finish in time... I may attempt it anyway.
ClassicGamer-3DT - looking good so far, can't wait to see the rest of the texturing. What are your plans for the sky and bg? Bright blue sky with fluffy clouds is too cheery for the apocalypse haha, there's lots of options too for some nice silhouettes on the horizon.
ClassicGamer-3DT
07-02-2012, 12:40 PM
Yeah that sky is temporary will have a warmer, cloudier and probably sunset/sunrise sky. Will be working on the scene tomorrow as I've been to a business meeting in Worcester this morning as I'm in a collaboration with 95 Creative & met all but Tom & his misses at both 3D Total & 95 Creative. (Tom is away at Thailand of all places) as 3D Total share an office space with 95 Creative. A really nice set of people very welcoming to a nervous fat lad this morning. They have a sweet HQ really great surroundings, honestly couldn't hope to meet any nicer people....... and they've got a pool table as Chris & Rich were playing when I got there but not sure who was winning lol :).
Was a bit jealous really as they've got a really nice office space setup there.

ClassicGamer-3DT
08-02-2012, 07:54 PM
Yeah I think that's mainly down to my front DOF which I'm not sure how to control which is giving the scene a tilt shift kind of effect..... however I like the effect as it's giving it a miniture stylised element which after all is what's needed as it's a stylized challenge.
Sorry there's not been much in terms of updates, but my Dad has been in hosptial since Saturday having had chest pains, fluid on his lungs etc........ and with the new amount of work coming my way it's busy busy busy.

CG you've done a very good job, most of the elements look correct in the scene. The only thing which pops out to me would be the smoke, because the light is not passing through it correctly. Given the circumstances and the things you've had to deal with this past month, I think it’s a great entry :)
