Hi Guys,

I have a client for whom I am designing the exterior of a house. I installed 3d studio max on his laptop, because he wants to see the house from all angles.

The problem I am having is that if I use the Save/Archive feature, when I open the file on his computer, the texture paths are screwed up, and I have to manually go to every material and reassign the textures.

I would greatly appreciate if you have a solution to this problem.

Wish you all the best !

well, usually when you open the file max shows you which are the missing textures on a popup, and in the same popup you are able to browse and add a whole path (directory and subds) for max to find them all at once.

well i have one solution and a cheap one :). instal unity package on your clients computer and export your scene as .fbx . this way all your textures will be baked in to your default materials and he will see everything from all angles but without any fancy materials.
we do this in our companie when we have to look through lots of scenes and models and it is realy time saving method cause we dont have to download all texture and material files and we can all work with our own software.
good luck with it :)
hope it helps

Thanks guys, paulius your ideea is great, but some parts of the geometry are coming out weird, and I have to change all the materials to standard.

Thad you are right, but the client isn't very good with computers, didn't want to complicate things for him, but I think that is what I will do.

Just put all the textures in the same folder as the max file and it'll pick them up automatically

you could also use the asset tracker in max.. (shortcut ctrl+T) and reasign the paths
