Just finished a project, and wanna join in the fun. Trouble is organic modeling was never the best skill, but one can try and try again.

The scene I'm recreating in hopes they recreate it later on is a scene from "Welcome to Colinwood" - the circular saw method

spent an hour in browsing pixar and disney character art work on the web. I must admit i'm more prone to Pixar than Disney, but i can't quite grasp the "what makes a character Pixar like"

Anyone have any ideas, reference, comparisons etc? Really appreciated

So i watched:
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Toy Story 3
Cars
Cars 2
The Incredibles
Ratatouille
Up

Not much smarter after this, gave me a hint as to where i need to go, fingers crossed for the rest.

Downside, now I'm hooked, already have trailers of Brave on autorepeat - can't wait until summer

well been struck down with both kids ill from a virus that's going on, fever coughing etc, so in the mists of taking care of them and the missus, working at the same time and joining in ill ranks myself i said to myself:

Journey begins with the first step; ergo i made the smallest prop for my scene that i need. And that being an old fashioned clothes peg.

Didn't do the standard clay render - not that this one is all that better, but scanline, and a lot faster...

another - key asset (not pleased with the circular saw blades, but atm, it's all good)

Hope you and kids get well soon (or better if you are out of the worst part).
Nice starters. I hope you know what you are doing - a line with those clothes pins would be enough for my computer to go facepalm :D. Your render time will skyrocket with this level of detail.

my hopes are directed in the same way.

speaking of level of detail, each of models has a leve 2 turbosmooth on them, that i can easily set to 1 or 0 - depending on how far they are from the camera

terminology from the film:

Mullinski: someone who takes the fall for a crime for someone else
Bellini: a dream heist
Krazner: a brick wall mortared with sand and water, making it easy to break
Antwerp: A tool created to collapse a Krazner wall
Kapuchnik: a heist gone so bad it is not salvageable

not The Hassenfeffer 622, but the smaller safe that was used to practise the circular saw method

last prop not to character, textures and lighting/rendering :p a lot to do for two days that are left...

quick scene set up with few blockout models

went for george clooney gotten bruce willis - ears are pixar shaped, eyes are round like pixar's, nose line is rigid and continues to the eyebrow...

next time i'll do a study, stylise the character from a photo, accentuate his lines, and try to figure out which facial characteristic automatically screams Clooney or hopefully a woman character (missus was looking at me strangely when i was googling for clooney). If you depend on the eyes you lost the battle already cause all pixar eyes are round...

I did the char in 3 hours so for my first organic attempt i would like to say it looks like a human :) hence my happiness :wall:

true, unfortunately placing SS for skin or anyother blend/mix/bump/etc combination of nice looking textures won't be possible - it takes 2 minutes of waiting just for render to start - so will stick to colouring this as much as i can :(

Great job, especially if its your first organic. My first face looked like jello Buddha, so this is not shabby at all :)

As for SSS for skin (SS may be a bit misleading for some groups :D), there is a small cheat - use falloff material in diffuse slot. If you are tight in time department, falloff is the life saver.

I guess you are right, for the first one it's not too bad. Although my first sex was way better than my first try in organic :)

Cheers about falloff, i use that in totally different way in one lighting composition, nice to see it from a different perspective
