The Challenge Rules

1). Each challenge we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modeling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief can be removed and the poster disqualified.

2). You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified.

3). Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like and must include a clear and easy to see wireframe of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Wire renders/ Cell Shaded or Screengrab wireframes are acceptable. Any wireframes we cannot see correctly will be disqualified. The key is for us to be able to see the wireframes clearly to ascertain how you modelled the subject matter.

4). You MUST include the following details with each submission:

A). Software used
B). Time spent creating the model.
C). A Clay Render of your models.

Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information can be removed and the poster disqualified.

5). Post TWO images per entry which must be no larger than 1280x1024 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 195k.
1 image for your wireframes and 1 for your clay combined with a optional beauty render.
These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page.
Do not link to external images files. Images larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials)
will be removed and the poster disqualified.

6). The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time.

7). Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post it as long as it's recognizable.

8). Posting the same entry twice in a challenge is considered to be double posting and will result in a disqualification. When asked to fix a previous post due to DQ or any other reason, you must fix the first post, or delete it altogether and create a new one.

9). The Winner must email jo@3dtotal.com to claim their prize.

10). Only 1st place & 2nd place (i.e. the runner up) can claim a prize.

These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions!

Subject: Movie/Film Props.
Deadline - 10:00PM GMT 4th May 2012.
Description: A theatrical property, commonly referred to as a prop, is an object used on stage by actors to further the plot or story line of a theatrical production. If it is touched by the actor in accordance to script requirements or as deemed by the director, it is a prop. The term has readily transferred to television and motion picture production, where they are commonly referred to by the phrase movie prop or film prop. In recent years, the increasing popularity of movie memorabilia (a broader term that also includes costumes) has added new meaning to the term "prop," broadening its existence to include a valuable after-life as a prized collector's item. Typically not available until after a film's premiere, movie props appearing on-screen are christened "screen-used", and can fetch thousands of dollars in online auctions and charity benefits. So in this challenge you can create anything that the above text depicts in "any" film you want, remember this is a two weeker so the choice is yours!

Modelling Time: 90 Mins.

Prizes:

1st Place - £30 worth of 3DTotal downloadable products & a gold award badge.
2nd Place - £10 worth of 3DTotal downloadable products & a silver award badge.
Honourable Mentions - Bronze Award Badges

Above All Else Have Fun & Good Luck!

good progress there matey.

I hate it when Relal Life get's in the way with things to upset you, this week alone the client i've being doing a medical animation for, for the last 2 months changed the job & so 16 hours work without sleep went down the drain for nothing, my dad was admitted into hopsital (still in) with heart and breathing problems, i've been stuck in hospital twice having IV anti-biotic treatment for a small foot ulcer, and my laptop crashes multiple times on me so not a great week.

Wish I could just model when I want to and enjoy life, but occasionally bad things happen...... only trouble is they seem to happen alot to me lol..... no point bloomin' worrying about it though, worrying isn't gonna change a damn thing! Just makes me feel worse.

:) The next SMC is gonna be a real "challenge" in every sense of the word, it's gonna be another two weeker (the last two weeker for some time) and it's going to really test your modelling and possibly texturing ability........... i've only seen a few select freelancers and professionals get this subject matter really right, so we are all in for a real challenge on SMC #51!

Ok err slightly bad news for me at least.....

.... recently I managed to get a foot ulcer (again).
It was doing ok and I have been staying off it and eating well & healthily.

Well the reason for said ulcer wasn't actually my fault (makes a change) it was the chiropodist that made a shoe insert for my custom made shoes (diabetics get shoes made for them to prevent this very thing from happenning)

The said shoe insert is a gel like imprint of your bad foot and it's there to contour to the foot and reduce risk of rubbing etc i.e to cause foot ulcers......... well it seems the lady that dealt with me & 200 other patients got her measurements wrong and has been heavily bollocked for it!

Which means now due to the nature of diabeties and the ulcer she caused one of my toes has died! Yep died there's no circulation getting to it, because that's where the laceration/ulcer occurred.... even though it's not my fault & i've been doing everything I could to get better it's just one of those things that happens..... I could have survived and usually do, they take a while to heal but the nature of diabeties can change something like this literally overnight.

So last night I was transported by some very friendly Ambulance members to my local hospital and i'm awaiting an operation to have said toe removed. I'm gonna be fine and should be back to nearly full health in a couple/few weeks it's really come at a bad time though & has knackered any and all plans I had.

Friday's challenge will go ahead as i've got everything already prepared & i'll be able to log into here and post it via my iPhone which i'm using to post this very message.

I've no idea how long i'll be in here, it's p1ssed me off to say the least!

Anyway back to the challenges now, just thought i'd let you guys know, sorry everyone.

John.

A big big thanks to everyone!

I'm pretty peeved to be honest as it wasn't my fault.... you know if it was summat i'd done wrong then fair enough.... but .... I dunno.... i'm heavily medicated right now so feeling ok lol, what is worrying is having to sign a form that indicates what could go wrong.... seeing the words loss of foot below the knee or death doesn't put you in the best frame of mind to sign a peice of paper saying ok yeah go ahead, i've been told it'll be pretty straight forward and then it's gotta heal... which'll take the most amount of time... especially as they won't let me out of hospital until it's healed to a certain point.

I'm the youngest on the ward, they've already nicknamed one guy spider-man as he keeps trying to climb the walls every so often... thank god for my iPad and PSP to keep me sane!

I could get really really upset but it's not gotta make a difference to what still has to be done, the only thing it will do it makes me feel worse than I already do.... although i'm pretty sure when I go for the operation as i've not been put to sleep before i'll be extremely nervous...... just don't wanna be here......hopefully it won't be for long my signal in here is awful on my iPhone and there's the worst Wi Fi i've ever seen about 88K which is slightly better than dial up! Streaming movies is out of the question.... might be able to download a few from itunes shop in about a day.

Anyway back to modelling guys, don't worry.

Things just get better and better for me........NOT.... got no sleep last night thanks to some old b4st4rd who would not shut up!! then a nurse was "trying to help me out of bed" and I fell off the bed lmao and knackered the base of my spine in, so now i'm bedridden aswell (before I could sit at the side of the bed). Lost count how much i've spent on my iPad in app purchases to keep me busy, bought Autodesk Sketchbook Pro which I sweet but have to be in the mood to draw things, addicated to a logo quiz & tap the frog games. It's the boredom that's the hard part. Was meant to go for the operation last night but they had an emergency come in and they are understaffed.... you gotta laugh.... otherwise i'd cry lol..... oh well might text later on before the challenge turnover.
