Hi to everybody, long time no see!

(i made a lamborghini 3 moths ago...)

Now ,finished my exams, i put all my attention on a project i dreamed to realize since i took confidence with 3d:

an animation with old japanese robots!

i decide to start with mazinger Z 'cause is the "easiest"(not so much...) to realize.

i can't use too many polys 'cause for an animation would be too heavy.

this is the starting..

FireJin3

Well, he doesn't really looks cool I'd say.

7JoeBlack8
12-10-2003, 04:42 PM
yes is not a photorealistic car..as usual.

anyway i'll put materials at the end.

maybe after giving bones.

it goes on...

7JoeBlack8
14-10-2003, 08:12 PM
ok ok...i understand mazinger isn't so interesting...
anyway i'm still working.
that are last renderings...

a question...anyone of u has ever made an animation with brazil?
bye & give C&C!!

14-10-2003, 09:35 PM
lol it may not be the most interesting or coolest looking thing out there, but i like it anyway :p
with some cool textures i think itll bring it to life
annnd nope, sorry, never did a brazil animation

7JoeBlack8
14-10-2003, 10:13 PM
yes...i thought it wouldn't be much interesting...

maybe isn't so "realistic" and "amazing" as a beatiful modeled car (for example)...

i hoped someone remebered the old cartoon!!

well....maybe yes sarn....

with materials...

any suggestion?

Cool! Mazinger Z, i used to like that.
It doesn't look exactly like it, how the way you made it, maybe model the UFO and texture would do the job.
Good job, would like to see more.

Looks good but never heard of it. I only know the old giant robot and some gundam :o

Guru
15-10-2003, 08:12 AM
i knew that looked familiar!

first anime i ever saw, 'cept its know as Tranzor Z here in the US

looking good so far, cant wait to see more

7JoeBlack8
15-10-2003, 07:32 PM
oh great!!!
i knew that someboby would remind something at last!!

well...my "way of modeling" is the seguent:

i'm tryng to use a low pol tecnique because at the end i'll animate, and the design of the robot is at half way between the old anime and the toy i had when i was 10...

if u see the shoulders are big ....and the colours i choose for the naked poly are the same of the "taiwan" replica of Mazinger Z model!!

well...at the end i'll made a "material version" obviiously:D

today i modeled the atomic punch!

stay tuned!

Very interesting :) I used to watch Mazinger Z with my friends when I was a kid. But the version we watched was dubbed in Arabic...

There was this other cartoon, in Arabic it was called 'Sanjero' dunno if that's the real title. It was about a fighting competition with computer controlled robots; way cool. It used to be my favorite cartoon.

If I can ever find a website with some images (no luck so far) I may model the main robot (it was called 'Joomaroo' again, that was the Arabic version).

Anyway, keep up the good work. Like the detail in the hand.

7JoeBlack8
17-10-2003, 10:53 PM
mmm, here in italy the name of cartoons remain (especially older one) about the same....

and i'm a real specialist about japanese robot cartoons...

and i never heard sanjeroo!

if u try to explane the shape of the robots...or the if they transform in something or they join during transform i could help!

bye:)

seth raad
18-10-2003, 06:22 PM
Well the star of the cartoon is this japanese kid named 'Sanjero Sogata', and he builds this little robot which he names 'Joomaroo', and enters this competition where he controls his robot via a computer in a one-on-one fight against other robots... in the end he becomes the local champ, then goes off to the world championship...

The robots don't join into anything, or transform. It's like a martial arts “Blood Sport” type 'kumute' of sorts in a wrestling ring... Where instead of actual human fighters, people come to the arena to watch little robots duke it out...

As you can guess it's full of over-the-top martial arts moves, a lot of drama, and a dash of comedy. I just thought the robots looked cool spin-kicking the oil out of each other...

sorry seth...really never seen!

well...i made legs,i try a first attempt.

Wow, cool looking Mazinger u got there, the model seems to be coming along nicely, youīre good at mesh editing :). Iīm a big Grendizer fan myself, Iīve made the TFO saucer and a couple of Golgoths with transform ability, Iīm curently working on Grendizer himself. Hereīs a pic of the TFO:

yeah it's coming along well for sure, but I think it still lacks detailm looking too primitive. And also, you should render it one color, like the clay renders. *Gray with global illumination*

ps, oh, and it's more interesting that those flasy cars to me anyways, I'm sick of seeing frickin cars

thanks guys...today i made feet.

well i'm trying to assemblate all parts...but the end is far.

lack of particulars...i've got to find a good way for connections ,and study a well positioning for bones too.

4 Jin:i understand...u don't like my mazinger...maybe you'll appreciate after materials...

Good job on the feet, although I think you should shorten the height down to 90-80%. See if it looks better that way.
Well hereīs a picture of the Grendizer model Iīm working on, itīs almost finished.Need some really good textures now.

Thanks seth Iīm still working on it, hope to make a good animation soon showing some of his attacks. :) Hey that Mazinger looks great from all sides. I see u lowered the feet, good job. I think it would look even better if you curved the chestplates invard too,u could use Bend or something like that.

Canīt wait till itīs finished. :D

I'd REALLY suggest against using brazil for everything. Granted it can really make things look nice, its very taxing on resources. You can get some DAMN good lighting out of 3DS MAX(or equivalent program) if you just know how to use it. I've seen some AMAZING stuff on this site, and on 3Dtotal (galleries) that are all done with standard lights. I suggest learn standard lights, get good at them, then EXTEND that with brazil. Don't rely on brazil, not everyone in the industry if you want to be in the industry uses that.

As far as your model goes, its lookin pretty cool! Get some good textures on that sucker and it'll rock!

cheers

7JoeBlack8
09-11-2003, 02:54 PM
thanks for support guys...

4 clay: well...it's just bended enough...if i ben more i can't move arms as i want...

4 wolf: hey i'm totally at your side...but what can i do?
photometric radiosity takes very LOT of time ...brazil less!
i'm going to make an animation...why should i ought to do max render?

x_wolf19
10-11-2003, 02:31 AM
like I said, not every studio/production house uses any sort of GI rendering. I think its a very good idea to get used to max's stock lighting, then when you learn that, then move on to learning the GI software. It just makes you that much more marketable.
Use brazil if you like, but I'm tellin ya, with good textures, materials and models, and standard lights, you can make AWSOME looking scenes!

good luck dood!

lookin very nice dood. Good stuff. lol about me and my ranting of the using brazil, use it for when you have no textures, but when ya start usin em use standard lights, specially for the animation. It'll make things render lots faster. Good luck!!!

cheers

I also like that fighting stance, are you going to make an animation?
Btw you could try giving the eyes a glow with a raytraced transparent texture which is very reflective and try positioning an omni light inside or near the eyes...just a suggestion though

21-12-2003, 02:35 PM

Great job Joe Black,

That was my first robot hero I grew up on.

Mazinger Z rocked.

In fact that was the first 3d model I ever attempted to do in 3d for my first 3d class.

Mine came out pretty bad. : )

Yours looks fabulous.

WIP - ANDROID 69 - If you see mine you can tell that Mazinger Z's robot girlfriend had a little influence on my model.

Hi, 7JoeBlack8... I like your Mazinger-Z model, it is a work in progress I see.
You're doing a better job modeling it in detail. Keep up the good work,
I can't wait to see it when you finish it.

I also have 3D models of Mazinger-Z. And, I also modeled my own "mazin"
as a tribute to all three mazins (Mazinger-Z, Gran Mazinger, and Mazinkaiser)
which I call "Mazin King Kaiser"... I currently an modeling an updated version of Mazin King Kaiser for a 3D animation project which I will burn onto dvd...
...you can find it at my geocities webpage
http://www.geocities.com/mazinkingkaiser/TonyDoGAart.html
and there are other 3D robot models there also. :)

I made the models with a japanese 3D CGA program called "DoGA CGA" version
"L2", and now I've upgraded to "L3".

I used to watch the Mazinger-Z tv series broadcasted on TeleMundo in
Puerto Rico during the summers of 1982 and '83.
Last year I started watching the Mazinkaiser series on dvd I borrowed from
a friend... very nice series!

Hi Everyone... it's been a while since I last posted here, and I've been busy
during that time.
First, a link to my wallpapers:
http://www.geocities.com/tvmuzik/TonyDoGAgallery
Note: I'm using the geocities freebie webpager, meaning its bandwidth
is limited per file-transfer--- if you get an "inaccess" message, try back at
a later time (that's what Sucks about using the Geocities freebie webpager).

On a happier note, I made a 3D animated Mazinger-Z movie
"MAZINGER-Z: Battle Of The Giants" (15:51 minutes) 128mb
here's the direct-download link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BWU4OH06 enter the 3-letter code
and click "download"...wait 45 seconds for download to begin; it takes about 20 minutes to download if you have highspeed connection.

That movie is compressed into a ".rar" file-- use Winzip to unzip it
after you download it to your personal folder. If Winzip doesn't work,
try PKZIP or other program that will unzip .rar files...
...the movie was uploaded in some form of mpeg or mp3 format, but is
viewable.
(I didn't upload it- a friend in Spain ripped a dvd copy I sent him,
and he uploaded it as a bittorent file at his website at www.garada.net,
and at www.megaupload.com as a direct-download)
The movie is in english language, with spanish subtitles, and some
killer background music as well.
I'll let you judge the rest for yourselves.

For now, I am on "vacation" from making anymore 3D projects, as I am
about to relocate to Puerto Rico. By next summer, I plan to make a
sequel to this movie: "MAZINGER-Z: Ashura's Revenge" featuring the
monster Genocider-F9 and more mechas.
Enjoy! :-D

Amazing, and your progress with this Mazinger gets better every time!
I see here the head areas has no textures yet (by the way, this is a Very late
post- you're probably finished with a finalized Mazinger by now :-D)

Some yellow glow in the eyes, only when Pilder docks (when animated) to
simulate the "activation awakening" of the robot. The glow can get brighter
when Maz launches his eye laserbeams.
The crown can be a shiny "chrome" metalic material, the face as blue as the
anime series itself...
...but then again, if it looks good the way you're doing it (it really does!)
keep it up, and stay consistent.
Over all, your work is amazing!
