Well, I am new to modeling, Ive only did the fiat500 tutorial and never finished it :) but please take at my viper so far, and tell me what you think. I am currently cleaning up some of the vertex's
as you can see there are some dashes in the car like infront of door and such Im fixing now, (and removing dent in middle of hood :-P ) Thanks Ill post my progress :-D

ok it looks like a farily good start

but i really think you should listen to this. for my viper(also in this forum) i made the hood, door<->trunk, lower side section, and front bumper all different parts. from what i can see you've attempted to make them all out of one object. as for the hood itself i didnt actualy make holes for the two heat vents before the main window, simply enough i made a box, gave it a few more verts, shaped it into place, and smoothed it. it works better then attempting holes.

keep at it

:???: :???: :???: Search any 3d forum for vipers, you will get tons of results. People aren't just making them beacuse you are, they make them beacuse they are a popular car.:ufo:

EDIT: you have to be cool to make vipers:eek:

I think i might make a viper now. :|

I disslike the viper very much, I belive it is a very over rated car, but I seen a tutorial on the car and was going to do it, well after about 2 steps on the tutorial I was like never mind the tutorial it seems like Im doing fairly well on my own so I disided to complete it.

tutorial??? ive never seen one for a viper.... oh well

OK to defend myself im not saying that people are following ME im clearely NOT the FIRST person to make one... but note look at the first two pages of THIS forum.... LATELY many many people have started, few finished. (i was basicly saying "what whit that?")
THAT WAS MY POINT!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE BLOWING THIS WAY OUT OF PROPORTION! holy crap.
]plus clearely MANY people all over the world love the viper.

just so you know i like it cause it is theeeee most orgional car design(noting the cars age) and i like the design, the POWER is a plus. :D

plus sarN raises the best point, good work sarN.

Yeah, the last one is much nicer. The lines are smoother, and the grills really add to it. But why do you think the Viper's underrated? It's awesome.. or at least driving one is! :)

I smoothed out the front end a the door a bit. I noticed it was kinda bumpy in the image I posted earlier. Im still learning how to get good renders and work with lighting I think Im starting to get the hang of it! Thanks for the replys :D

I was also wondering about paint. I want to get some stripes on there and keep it nice and shinny. Any ideas how I might go about this?? If not Ill just experiment some more :p thanks

Try using a blend material. Someone showed me how (I can't remember who :( ) and it really worked a treat on my Integra

PS: I hope you don't mind me posting a pic

Maybe add a raytrace to the open material slot, then change the spec and glossiness to your liking then for the diffuse map set it as a texture you made with the blue and stripes for the car, then in the reflection slot add a falloff...just a suggestion. Very awesome car by the way...I love it so far.

skip the paint scheme for now, doing some test rendering. First time messing with HDRI still working with it.

First off , your model looks great, keep up the hardwork.

2nd, Im trying to figure out what this HDRI stuff is.

Im alittle new to what it is. Could anyone explain how to use an HDRI map. Or the process of it. Can it be used with standard 3d max 6. Or are they some kind of special image you have to down load?

Or is it built in with Brazil. etc. etc.

Thx

Cyrenn

check this out about HDRI stuff. http://www.splutterfish.com

The hdri map im using on the viper is of a building, if the hood was flat you would see a building in the reflection. (the viper gts hood as a big hump in it so you cant really make it out on my car)

A way to make stripes on your car.

Make a blend material, and put your car paint material in the Material #1 slot.

Then copy the Car paint material into Material Slot #2 and change its diffuse colour.

Having these set up gives the two of the three parts needed to make the stripes.

To tell the material where you want the stripes to be, you will need a mask to define where one colour (material) stops and the other starts. Make an image of the stripes in a paint program, with the colour black to be the transparent part.

Put the mask bitmap into the Mask slot, and apply the material to your object.

You will need a uv map on the object, planar will work well.

That should work. :)
