This is a Funny challengue that i want to do with all of you.

It's simply, make only with a teapot of max and a plane, the most realistic scene, only with this two objects. Use textures, lights, radiosity, all that you want, but generate the most realisitic and visual impresive teapot of the millenium. Are you good enough??? waiting for images ;)

Qubical
04-11-2003, 12:29 PM
One question: is it ok to change the shape of the Teapot with meshedit or anything like that?
Great idea, i will see what i can do

Samuel_Madrid
04-11-2003, 12:35 PM
do all you want with only this two objets, but the final scene must be a teapot on a floor, not more.

;)

I saw a MAYA teapot plugin somewhere. I think it was around $295. The teapot is supposed to come with Maya Unlimited™ 5. I know, get a programmer to write a custom script!

Are you saying that your creativity is being held back because of software limitations? Come on Daniel don't hold back.

all mine is just wooden texture on the plane with fresnal. the teapot is just brazil chrome. and i used HDRI with the kitchen probe. oh well, here's my not so good teapot :(

Done with Strata 3D Pro 3.9

Radiosity rendered in 2 hours with a glowdome mapped with an HDRI image and moderate DOF.

Kujoe
07-11-2003, 10:01 PM
Did you say 2 hr render.wow I thought 10mins is high..

Great job ,for 2hr it best be,Right?

LCGuy
07-11-2003, 10:18 PM
Thanks for the kind comment. And, yes, 2 hours.

True radiosity does, sadly, require a ton of calculations to be done, versus a raytrace rendering. Scanlines will yield the fastest renderings, but thier actual depiction of real life will be the least accurate.

Strata's radiosity renderer is a true radiosity algorithm, not a hybrid raytrace/scanline, such as the ones used by Max, Lightwave, Maya, etc... so, it's one of the downsides of using it.. the speed price for real high quality stuff is pretty high.

Strata's raytracer is very good, also, and I do work with it alot, as well, but, hands down, nothing beats a image illuminated scene rendered in radiosity.

Hopefully, in future versions, they can improve the rendering speed; I'm a Beta tester, so, I'll jst keep whining till they listen:)

Thanks again! :D

Dragen that was done with a plugin that came with the book "3ds max 5 Bible". As far as I know the developers, Furious Research, have only made this plugin available with the book.

its a mental ray material with metal (lume) as its surface

the setting for metal is white surface white reflection 1 reflection

blured reflection spread at 1, 20 samples

and i used a output shader for the camera (glare)
