I like your models Kujoe.
It's not only the time to learn that counts, it's the quality you provide. And your quality is very good man! I've already learned a lot from your posts, so keep up the good work ;-)
PS: I also like your second model in this thread

not bad kujoe... you should start a new threat with your viper pics, so everyone can see your work ;)
the viper is a VERY hard car to model, there is not 1x straight line on the beast :D
Good luck !

Hi .this is what I do, delete the polygon then I grab the edge hold down the shift key ,pull the edge to make a new one.I think I posted that way in the camaro post .I don't know though.
Oh if its for the glass ,front to the lights.I don't delete it ,I detach it,name it ,because its going to be the glass for the lights later

that is a sweet mini tut on door cutting. you should put that up on a website cause it the best explanation i have seen of how to do that yet. maybe you could put a part showing how to do i for a more detailed car door? either way thats awesome.
im not sure if maya has a detach command or not but ill figure something out!

I loooove the Z3 !! it's awesome how good you modelled it. but one doubt, did you texture the rear lights??
I don't know how to do that texture in my cars.
also, could you tell me how you did the headlitghts? (z3) model and texture?
could you post a pic with them ?

I got Radarheads car paint tutorial and learned how to put color in the environment. I never knew how to do that before. That's how you learn. Have you checked out Radarheads car tour yet? I've posted my car so you can see how by just changing the envirnment , how the paint changed. It looks as though it is clear coated.

Any change you could post material setups and brazil setups again? I tried some setups you posted earlier but it didnt look same as yours. Also did you use any other lighting than skylight? Nice work Kujoe, It looks more like a viper than a Z3 though. Might want to check your references, haha. J/k. Very nice. I would up thye main light and have it coming more from the side though. You want the light to graze the contours to show the detail better. When the light i overhead like that it tends to flatten things out.

OK, number one is the textureing is to large on the ground. I would also move the light back and behind the car more. Also up the power some more.
Kujoe
19-09-2005, 06:38 AM
Thanks man .You still not smoken?
RickStefani
19-09-2005, 07:35 AM
I have to say I started to smoke again. Terrable thing. I made it over a year. The grain eems to high. Also be careful of having the car kiss the edge of the image like that. Either cut it off or give more of a seration. I would still say maybe double the power of the light. Great work on this.
Kujoe
19-09-2005, 05:07 PM
Hi Rick. Thanks for the help. What you think?keep it on Rick for me Rick.
You still with the same women?
Much better less grainy Ray, but the carpaint looks too reflective, this takes away the cars' lines. I second crits by Rick on car position and lighting (although i did not understand what "seration" means but it could be just a typo, i too have big clumsy fingers) :o.
RickStefani
19-09-2005, 06:53 PM
hahah, I do have big clumsy fingers and a "s" key that sticks from time to time. Seperation was what was meant. It is looking much better. I second what Dan said. Also bring the lights slightly around and forward. The light should be aimed from the back quarter pannel. I am still with the same women. How are you holding up Ray? I am really glad to see you doing 3D again.

Out of curiousity, Why all the omni lights and the skylight? I would stick to a fill, key and skylight. You using metal ray or scanline?

ok two lights skylight and one fill.
RickStefani

Oops, The key and fill should be spot lights. Sometimes I use an omni though. You only need one skylight. I never use Brazil so I am a little uneducated on the setup in that program.

Kujoe

Hi Is the car really to small?
RickStefani
21-09-2005, 12:26 AM
I think the car is OK for the buidings but the ground is still to large. I am sure if you tiled the texture more you would be right on. I also like the older camera angle better.
edit, you posted before I hit reply.

the reflection looks a bit plain to me, how did you do it? it would look better if it was a bit transparent so that it has some shading on it.
or you could try render with it, then without it and compose the two imagen in Photoshop to find a good balance... but dont take my comments too seriously for im quite noob still :)

Looks good. Have you played with the lense effect glow to get some bloom on the chrome. Here is a quick lesson on it.
Step one: Go under rendering and select Video Post. In the video post you have to add an input(red) which is the camera you want to render from. The next is the event you are going to use which is "lens effect glow" (Blue) The last is the way you want to save the image or animation (Yellow)
Now step 2: double click "lens effect glow" and click setup. Under propperties select whole. Check brightness and elect a high value like 200. The higher the number the less of the image will receive the glow. 255 nothing will glow. at 200 only the areas of the image that have a value above 200 will glow. Make sure you turn off any other filter that may be applied.
step 3: go under properties and adjust the size of the glow. You want pixels selected because you want the color to come from the pixels that are filtered. I would then set the intensity down.
PS, you can also do all this under Enviroment effects but sometime these do not work well with Mental ray and you may have the same problem with Brazil. I hope this helps. You may have to play with the settings a bit to get good effect.
