Qubical
30-11-2003, 03:57 PM
Normally for cars im not using Brazil, but just the standard scanline renderer, but when I see this paint I might very well make an exception. I sure looks great. But the paint seems a bit freckled, but that might be the jpg compression artefacts.

Kujoe
30-11-2003, 04:02 PM

kinda hard to explain, but I will circle it on one of you pics, if you don't mind:
I was refering to these irregularities in the paint, if they were meant to resemble a metallic paint, I would make them a bit smaller. (btw tell me the word you would use for that, because obviously english is not my mother language)

Th3 ProphetMan
30-11-2003, 06:06 PM
im spanish :D but i think it can be called noise effect or something like that

I think that Qubical is talking about the brazil paint flakes. They do look a little large for your model, but I see that you have the size set to .1 , I dont know if it gets any smaller? I dont have brazil any more so i cant test it my self and they dont have the R/S version anywhere more

Qubical
30-11-2003, 08:43 PM

Hey USED if you want to see how to modell rims, check out the tutorial on Radarheads weppage. Something with defcongrafx, not sure check out in the members list, there is also a link to his webpage, I found the tutorial very helpfull. Another way is to check out the way Karabo makes the steering wheels of his Fiat 500 in the tutorial on the 3DTotal page. I am doing my rims like that because I figured that it is much more accurate but thats a question of preference.
@Kujoe: your Z3 is coming along quite nice, hope you will finish it. I think most people here in the forum don't finish there work and I was like that too, but joining this forum helped alot, you get so much advice that you have to go on :) .

He he, you mean the breakdisk.

So for the rims you just made the spline cage, made the faces then what, extrude? When it comes to splines I don't know anything.

Qubical
03-12-2003, 03:09 PM
Read the tut on radarheads page, he explains quite well. I gues he put a surfacemodifier on and made the rest with polymodelling. Thats how I would go about it anyways. Keep it up Kujoe nice work on that car and on the rim too.

Booleans in Max is not a very good idea. Give it a try and you will see, that it won't work right. It works with a plugin called Power booleans but that isn't for free :( . Thanks ,I didn't think it would work. Now I don't have to waste my time.I think when you add smoothmesh .Messes things up.
This is the rim with the disk in it.

Looks nice, the way you made your discs is nice. BTW what method do you use for the cars body? Splinecage, polys, boxmodelling, nurbs ( I guess not in Max!)?

Nice but make sure you adjust the part behind the back wheel. In the last render it seems to stick out a bit too much. And how about a tire.

what the **** how do you build your stuff??? i make a tube real flat like the disc i want, i create an editable poly and chamfer the vertices i want to become holes to the middle on both sides remove the faces and weld the middle vertice groups... if you extrude only slightly the first time you have a sharp chamfer edge, if you just select the middle polygons and give them a diffrent smoothing group, (also have to turn it on in the meshsmooth youll get really sharp edges looks really mechanical...

Not trying to rip you cause for sure I cannot do what you have accomplished, just trying to help you out a bit. :) I own a 3 series and that might be my first car to try out after I do this tutorial on 3dtotal. Thanks.

I don't think the refraction is too high, I think that the windows are just a oneside poly. You should create the window as in real like (two sided) and not just a plane ;)
