As I said, the above pic is an older one...This one's more actual. Still many parts just rough geometry, but all guns finished and in the right place...

still, c&c welcome

sweet. are you gonna do an animation?

Trex2001
25-11-2003, 07:13 AM
still not finished with the modelling. What u see is about half the detail i wanna reach...

Thought about animation too. But can u imagine animating this on an AMD 700. Guess it'll take hell of a long time...:-(
But sooner or later i'll give it a shot. But first i need to find out how to make real good ocean waves, muzzle flash, things like that...

Sweet model doode. About the crosses it's sad that they are associated with nazi movements of the WWII when the swastika really is a hindu symbolf for the...sun I think. But of course mr AH didn't think of his empire as an evil one. Nuf of that ..no problems with the crosses just pointing it out. Looks very authentic :)

About the swatstica
This is an issue that kind of burns me up.
I did an image of a couple of WW1 aircraft one of which had a swastica on the side.
But there was an immediate assumption that I was somehow promoting this group !!??
Now, i have no political agenda here, i'm just trying to make historicaly accurate images.
And THAT was the way it looked!!

now, i'm sensative to the associations tied to this symbol, and understand that it is not an easy thing to contemplate
But, when we start to edit out the painful parts of our history, That is when we are in BIG trouble.
It's actualy kind of scary

So, Trex2001
You go ahead and tell it like it was.
rant mode off

As for the Bismark
I think it is looking good
go for those details - As painful and boring as all that modeling might be, it will pay off in the end :)

at least, that has been my experience

Yeah, mmiller , this is exactly my point, and thanks for the compliments. I'll keep up modelling, also you're right, damn boring.

And that's why it'll take some time until u see some detailed shots, doesn't make any sense as long as there's no deatail...

Excellent work so far.

I have had to stop working on my model as I am doing a degree now.

Im looking forward to seeing this progress.

an interesting thing I found the other day is the Game Call of Duty.

There is a mission aboard the Tirpitz (The bizmarks sistership) you can walk around all of the decks and the detail is fairly good.

I think it is a useful thing just to see the scale of the boat. If you have any trouble with ref images I can get a few screen caps for you. ;)

Brin: I know, got the game myself, nice mission, and for a game its a beautiful model...

Due to a huge harddrive error and some bluescreens the Bismarck files are all lost, no backup done of course, meaning this thread is closed.
Maybe i'll remake the ship, maybe not...
Thanks to all the nice words so far, this could really keep me motivated....

I love the story behind the Bismark.

Such a Beautiful battleship.

I really hope one day they will make a full length feature film or a live action film about the Bismark. Well at least an updated one.

There is so much history behind this battle ship.

Keep up the great work. You have to remember the sailors that fought and died with the Bismark were really not considered Nazi's.

The ship just carried the symbol. Because it was Hitlers baby, and the ship was a symbol of what the Third riech was supposed to be.

But as for the men that fought and died with the Bismark. They Should not be look down apon. But Saluted as Brave Shipmen. Who fought in the battle of the Atlantic.:D :D :D :D

Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing this one complete.

Sorry to hear you lost your files.

At first when I read the title, I thought I would find a jelly-filled powder-coated doughnut. Then I remembered the Bismarck was a ship!

But nice modelling, sorry to hear you lost the files. Hope you rebuild it! Back up your files man:D

Hello. Very nice model you have thre, sad you lost it.

I have one question for you about th texturing of th deck. How??? Since there is so many planks on her, a couple of thousand and with some variation. So how do you set it up to look atleast convincing?

Trex2001
19-11-2004, 11:02 PM
Leandia , the deck is just a standard wood texture that ships with max, tiled very often, mixed with the "logos". since there are no detailed shots of the deck thats absolutely enough.

actually, the REAL swastika, or svastika, had the ends pointing counter-clockwise. it's a good luck symbol. however, lore has it that when the ends get turned and pointed clockwise (as in the nazi symbol) it provokes evil. much of the nazi belief system was built around such lore and superstition.

btw, sux you lost your model man, it was lookin beautiful

Impressive modelling, I've always wanted to try and build ships and boats but not sure where to start, the shape always puts me off, It looks too difficult to me. Any points on where you started with this, are you using blueprints?

This is really nice though, keep going it's cool

Kind Regards
