I played around a bit with nurbs and found a tutorial, then I played around a bit with hdr images and this is the result.... might seem kinda pointless but it was pretty good training.... hope you like it....

looks really good. I like the sound of that HDRI, I think it could work cool on a snooker table.

Thx for your comment. One day i might do a snooker table with the same hdri as the one used here....

Pool is a half sized (maybe 3/4 I forgot) table with 15 balls.

Snooker is a full sized table with 15 red balls and 6 colored balls.

Sorry, but what's a hdr image?

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and is a special image format... there is a great tutorial for it on http://www.digital-tutors.com/digital_tutors/display_video_details.php?videoX=201 thats ofcourse if you use maya and mentalray. If you use max and brazil there is a good tutorial http://www.splutterfish.com/gabry_hdri_tut_tmp/ ..... hope it helps you out...:)

Oh, it's an image format, basically. That's an interesting tutorial. I'll check it out when I'll have time.
Thanks

the mats u used on the objects looks good to be car paint... what renderer did u use for this image?

(and yeah..a snooker table is bigger than a pool table..smaller pockets and smaller balls..)

thx... I used mentalray to render it..

does anyone know of any tuts on HDRI, using MAX and mental ray.
i have max6 and the mental ray that comes with it

So what's up with that mentalray? I mean I don't see anything wrong with raytrace...what does it do better?

NoJo

well raytrace is a material (if I'm not misstaking and there is a renderer called raytrace.) and mentalray is a renderer. But maybe you ment the standard renderers in each program or maybe that the reflections is called mentalray... anyway... the standard renderers in each program ar good but sometimes you want more. For example doesen't hdri work so good in mayas standard renderer but in mentalray it's really easy.... And the reflections in the image is based on a raytrace/blinn material.... :halo: and the_solidshadow... try the tutorial i mentioned on digital-tutors... even though it's for maya i think you'll get the basic idea of how you do it.

Very nice. i tryed to work with hdri but did not get as good resultes. what is the material did you use and how did you get the red and blue on the same material? Keep up the good work

Crayox

Well I think he just changed material id on those polys and applied multi/sub material. IF you need more info on it let me know.

acctualy the objects that's red is one object and the blue is one object, but you could do i the way Crayox says too, if this scene wasn't build of nurbs :p And the material is a simple blinn material with high reflection/raytrace value
