I was thinking the exact same thing! Very good job modeling. Only thing I can recommend maybe is that the head seems a bit too flat on the side. Perhaps move the very back of the head (the top portion; pic att'd) along the x axis to round that area out more. Or rotate along the z-axis. But just a tiny bit.
Otherwise, awesome job.

Concerning the open-mouth-picture, a jaw doesnt just move down and drags the skin along, it rotates around just below the ear i think. He gets a really long face on the picture, otherwise it looks good

thnx for the comments guys. I tried to over do the blend shape models so that i have a little extra room when i start animating, so that might explain why some shapes look a little extreme.
im still working on more blend shapes, but i started the bump map today.
heres a render i just did with the WIP bump map , its got a wierd glowing problem going on, so im in the middle of trying to figure out whats wrong, im using mental ray in maya to render, so if you know why thats happening , lemme know =] , thnx

any ideas on good ways to make realistic hair?

It is really coming along quite nicely. Only thing I notice here now is that the eyebrows seem to stick out a little abruptly, and looks like it needs to be more gradual. Or perhaps it's just appearing a little flat from that angle.
And one more minor thing I see is that the nose opening appears too large. I remember your early posted images and it looks like you were going for the Back to the Future, Doc Brown character, so is that your intention to make it look more cartoony than realistic?

Otherwise, good job so far!

really nice...thats what i call a realistic head!..try planes with opacity maps for the hairs!
