Greetings all,

I am sonofagun from the modification 'National Crisis' (http://www.nationalcrisis.net/) for the new valve source engine (the one that powers Half Life 2). We have spent the last 3 months deisgning the modification in intricate detail and as such now have a large game design document (30 pages) which I hope helps prove to you the effort and dedication in the project.

We are now seriously looking to hire talented, dedicated, hard working people to join our team. We are especially looking for modellers[, but talented applications from all fields will be reviewed without immediate dismissal.

I appreciate that potential applicants will be wanting more information on the project before applying, but do not want to spam these forums with a huge post. Therefore anyone who gets in touch will be sent an abridge version of the game design document to review before formally applying!

We are looking to hire immeadiatly so please contact us via the methods described on the website or at sonofagun@guardtower.org!

Thanks for your time

sonofagun

Hi,

Well as we're a realism mod we're based on real life thing so I suppose there's not much to 'design' but there's plenty of art that could be done for the website, promo pics, even map textures.

If your interested in this sort of thing then I'm sure we can sort it out :D!

Thanks for the reply,

sonofagun

too much modern day and WW2 crap nowadays, same guns in every mod.

Future = Better.

Great! Another cs-wannabe for hl2... Best of luck to you guys... You've got about 100 other mods to compete against. If hl2 ever gets released...

This sort of stereotyping isn't justfied. People immeaditly label modern infantry games as 'cs clones'. If you just spent 5 mins on our website you'd see that this isn't true. We are not going to have hundres of weapons, we are going to have realism, we are going to have classes, two game types, we're not counter terrorism and we won't have bunny hoppers.

When you play National Crisis I hope you can see the obvious and distinct differences between us and NC. I agree that there is a lot of competition for modern combat (just as there is for WW2) but doesn't mean we shouldn't bother trying. We just want to make a good mod! That's all!

good stuff sono, stand up in what you belive in. Counter Strike was a mod, just like all the other mods right... lol wrong guys. there were other mods before CS... so are they copying the other moders... no there just bringing in new ideas... it happens, its called evolution, all games are like that.

Sono, your mod sounds great man, keep up the great work!

I spent 15 minutes on your website and theres not much that differs your mod from several others.

A unique concept does not mean that the mod is good. A mod with a less unique concept can still be very very good. That is if you have a talented team of course.

How do you plan on balancing the realism/fun?

It was kinda dumb of me to say that it is a cs clone, because there are a lot of weapons in cs. BUT there are a lot of weapons out there. How about a Lee Enfield L85A1? Ak5b? M60?

Im not a talented modeler, but heres my website with 2 models that im satisfied with. You're gonna have to copy-paste the adress. The site is made by Yanik btw.

Hey,

Jason-Lavoie - Your support is very much appreciated.

dave3d - You mention the L85A1, we have the L85A2 aka the SA80A2 (here in britain). We do have a lot of models not normally seen ebcause we aren't just terrorists/americans. We have Europan weapons such as the l85, l96, maybe even the P90. I checked your website, those models seem alright! Keep up the good work!

I've already hired 2 modellers from them seeing this thread - I'd like to make it 3 or 4 so please, if anyone else is interested sonofagun@guardtower.org - I'm looking at modellers of all abiities!

Balancing realism and fun will be a difficult task and will probably be done right from the initial beta's. One example is in some 'realism' mods people can have their legs shot out from under them. However we find this often detracts from gameplay and whether or not it is realistic is an issue for debate. One thing which sets us apart from most at the moment is the extensive nature of our game design document.

I'm wokring on 3 mods beside NC and all of them have much smaller less detailed docs. Hopefully this will allow us to streamline the production process aloowing for more advanced ideas to start surfacing earlier then in other mods.

Hope this answers your questions, I can appreciate that their are hundreds of other mods around like us but then again find a popular unique idea is difficult. We're making a game we want to be made, hope fully others will want to play it too!

Hmmmm... sounds good.
Me and a friend was thinking of doing some own models and maps to hl2, maby we can join your team?!... I donīt realy have any exp in lowpoly modeling, but hl2 is going to be realy advanced, right?? But my friend is REALY good at making maps for hl1 and hl2 is going to have the same mapmaking software as far as I know. Check out my website and let me know what you think, It hasnīt been updated for a while tho and its kinda slow.

I would jump at the chance, but, the words"half life 2" turned me off. trust me, with the amount of mods for half life 2 at the moment, there is no point creating one. Basicly, because there will be no point, because guaranteed no-one will play it.
On the other hand, if you got a good design document, i would be happy to do some moddeling and skinning.

Ok, well I've sent you an email enclosing an abridged version of the design document!

do you guys even think about your post before you put them up

half life 2, everyone else is doing it, boring
counter strike, been done, dont do it again

the world is full of computer games all of which do one thing, put the player in a different reality, even if it is just for a moment. if you are going to use the line "everyone is doing it" then stop everything, dont try to make a movie about people, been done, dont make a game people play on the computer, been done.

can all the negative people just take a day off, there is a market for half life 2 simply because people want that sort of game, so there are probably people that want to play mods

think before we post people

what all would a position as a modeler involve, i.e. what is the hours or the pay?

These are indeed voluntary positions. We have a few professional freelance modellers modelling for us but on a voluntary basis only. We are still in need of anyone who is interested :D!

i did not really expect a paid position, but i was curious what a modeler for this 'mod' would be expected to do.

Hmmm..I dont have any models to show you guys because my graphics computer doesnt have the internet. All you have to do is supply me with refernce images of front, top, side, and back and I can make almost anything. I would love to help you guys but I need to see the level of detail I would have to create.
