How come 3dtotal doesn't have any video tutorials??

I think video tutorials would help a lot of people out because it fills in the information that text can't. Im sure there is a logical reason behind no vids but I just thought it might be a good change.....yes??.......no??

It's a good idea but it’s just a 'time' problem, all the tutorials on 3d total have been submitted by people.

It does take awhile to collect all your thoughts, go through and write and re-write your tutorial, take pictures and do a final check to make sure its right. Now think about doing all that and having to compose a video. Plus having to find/buy the right software to do it.

Most people are just going to take the easy route, and really they would both work the same.. one just takes some more thinking.

Also size is an issue, a really long tutorial is probably 3 mbs max while a video will turn out 15x that. A few vid's end up to be a lot of server space.

Thats true, but if its streaming its less hassle. Its just that total doesn't even have 1 vid tut, I just thought it would be a nice addition. New things attract viewers and vids will most definatly help people out with certain problems. Vid tuts are easier to put on the net. No re writing, no editing, no double checking. Its quick, easy and helpful.

Its just that I don't know if a vid tut is even accepted here. Perhaps it will encourage people to make more. Its just a thought and Id be more than willing to make some for total!!

For instance.......haven't you ever seen a digital painting text tut and were so lost in between some of the steps because it was text and diagrams???.......you just sat there saying "how the hell did he get from there to there??" well I as well as others can fill in that info easily through a video!!

Just a thought, i dunno, maybe I could be wrong :dunno:

Hehe..well 3DBuzz (http://www.3dbuzz.com) is already widely known in the CG community for it's extremely helpful video tutorials. Sure, I find them great and easy to follow - but like DeadlyFreeze said, I think the biggest problems with them are the time and effort needed to create them in the first place, and (probably more relevant in this case) the server space/bandwidth required to host them.

"Vid tuts are easier to put on the net." errrrrr...
Even your average CG-user who decides to do a video tutorial on something - there's no way he'll ever find a server to host it off of for free.. They simply take up too much space and bandwidth (even in a highly compressed streaming format).

For me personally, I find most html tutorials to be plenty sufficient - and if I ever do come across a step where I get lost, the author will almost always gladly answer your question(s) with a quick email exchange. :)
Video tuts are definitely nice - heh but for now, I'm plenty content with the ones off Buzz's site. =]

I guess your right 2.......but were competing here......we gotta get 3dtotal to the top. Maybe just a few vid tuts. Not a whole lot cause your right, they do ocupy lot of space but it should be alright if only a few really good tuts are put on.

Hey, gives me another idea. If Tom makes this like a competition ( who can make the best vid tut) then we'll be able to choose the best one. Not sure how many members can actually make vids but its just another thought.

For the bandwith, webspace required and time to produce a video tutorial there could be many common tutorials; I don´t think that the quality of the tutorial improves so much that the extra quality compensates for the reduced quantity.

Its not like were asking the vid tuts to be the same # as the text tuts. Just a selected few. And "few" is the key word cause that won't take up too much space. 3dtotal is a crazy site and it could bring even more fame with video tutrials. Thats how a lot of other sites get fame......useful features.
