It´s been a long time since i posted something here, but i thought i might pay to god old threedy forum a visit...:)
This is a rocket ramp and it´s for a particle tutorial, well i thought it would be kind of boring making something crappy for a tutorial, so i decided to make my own rocket and ramp and so on, but i need some input/tips/critics on my texturing, i´m going for the old chipped paint feeling...so tell me what u think...

hehe...thanks..the rocket doesn´t look like much yet, just a revolved surface...but i´ll get to work on that..

ok...heres an update...the rocket doesnt look half as evil as i inteded...but here it is anyway..maybe i´ll redo it tomorrow:)

it looks god. i got a question for u though. im new to max. (not sure if u made that in max or not so im guessing) and when i was expeirent iwth texutres and cuztom textures i couldnt get them to wrap around the object the way i wanted them to. when u make the custom textures do u just guess on teh way the texture will wrap around it, or do u do it another way?

I´m not using 3ds max, i use maya, but from what i remember about max i think this is actually easier in max...but i may be wrong. What i can do is tell you how to do this in maya, and maybe u can apply it in 3ds max, its´a polygon object, so i use something called automatic mapping, when i do that maya lays out the uv-coordinates by itself, then i open up the uv texture editor and save a uv-snapshot, then i open that up in photoshop and just paint the texture...

im posting a character for this project, i know its a organic model but the rocket ramp is the starting pic for this thread so maybe i get away with this?!;)
this stupid guy has made a rocket-chair and will blast of in it on this ramp...he supposed to look stupid and goofy (cause no sane person would ever do that;))
his feet and hands are not done yet, and the pants looks a bit strange...but regardless of that, i would like to get some input from u guys since i actually haven´t shown him to anyone until just about...now:)

well...since i seem to be the only one interested enough to post a reply...i thought i might post some updates of the man...i made his hands, and he got socks on his feet now...later he´s going to wear...i think they´re called clogs?!?...a wooden shoe slipper thing...in sweden they are called träskor...maybe one of the swedes here can correct me if i´m wrong

refusing to give up, and hoping to get some kind of input from u guys, i´m posting the concept side wiev drawing of the rocket chair the caracter is going to blast of sitting in...i already started modelling this in 3d so maybe i´ll post a pic later tonight

the chest.... why is the chest behind his leg? is it ought because of the chair??? did you modelling it thinking on he being sit down??

hehe...no i didn´t modell the chest to fit the chair...i wanted him to have a real strange and bad body form...i tried to make him as strange as possible, but still not too strange...

I think you should ad more of those thingis to the airvent though.

:)did u look at the concept for the chair..? i´m going to have the support for the head..i just haven´t made it yet...and as far as the landing..hehe..u don´t have to worry about that...he´s going to land..oh.yes he is...and no landing-gear will be necessary;)

ok...last update for tonight...tomorow i´m going to add some more detail, but not too much..i´m trying to keep the polycount down..altough i already failed miserably at that..i´ll try and do my best to hold myself back;)...also i´m hopefully will start texturing tomorrow...let me know if u thinks something sucks or anything else....thanks!

imo the lines could be more thick... and you could even put something inside (a name, another line, a abstract picture,... it's up to you)

The spots on the texture are far too blurred imho, try increasing the size of the texture

as for the size of the textures..they are 1200 x1200 so i think it´s quite enough...lol i guess it´s my painting you have a problem with..but i will take a look at that...there may be a filter added by default in maya..dont remember...thanks for pointing that out anyway:)

Looks cool, But if you wanna give him that goovy look i think you shouldn't bend his back/hips like that. He should bent his knees then from knees he rotate back to neck (neck should be behind bum) and from there straight up. Then his hands should also go streight down almost touch his bum. Try do the goofy walk in the mirror :)

thanks for your crits all...i dont have the energy to go in and change all the textures i allready made at this point, so i´ll try to make the new textures a bit sharper...and changed the black at the top to yellow, and texture the big wings...and that´s enough for tonight:)

i´m using a phong...what is exactly that bothers u about the wing?..i happen to like it and i need u to be a bit more precise before i go and change it...and thanks by the way for replying while i continue to post on this wip...since you are the only one that gives me any crits..it means a lot:)

i don't like the yellow on the wings because your rocket ramp has a LOT of yellow... tho in the final textured version i could see it different...
and you're talking about put a number on it... what about put it on the wing... or could be another symbol (like the biohazard... :D)

i too thought it would be too much yellow if the wings were yellow too, but i tried gray and it looked like crap...the seat is going to be brown,so in my mind it will look nice with yellow wings..but hey, my mind has been way off before,but we´ll see, i will start with the seat right after i finnish writing this, and of course i´m going to make a seatbelt...it was planned from the beginning, but then i forgot all about it, thanks for reminding me ido...

i textured the seat...it is actually the same colors on both parts of the seat, but the lighting make it look like there are two different colors...and there´s a unsolved uv problem at the part of the seat where the back is(i didn´t know the english for for that)...when i look in the uv-texture editor it looks perfect, but when i render it doesn´t look right...dont know why it does that, so nevermind that, but other than that...any comments?

nice color for the seat... about your problem, it is very strange.... if the uv texture editor is ok, i dunno why this is happen....
a suggestion to the wing... you could make it with various parts of iron that are badly connect (like in the picture below) using bump map... and farther a spec and so on....
