Hey folks!

well I been lazy for awhile but I started on a new face recently (id started one without any knowledge of edgeloops and the mesh was a mess so I scrapped it)

anyhow, I'd love you have you guys crits, comments and recommendations for this one! thanks!

(this is still an early wip..)

MrArmless

hehe im hoping "it" will become female, the lower jaw will be thinned down soon cuz right now, I can understand easily why you said that :) and ditto for the lips, but i'm not planning to make a Jolie clone.

RodrigoRosa

alright... a female (great ideal... :D)... well, knowing that 'her' is a female you have model amazing lips... the nose is good and the eyebrow need tome work....

waiting for updates....

worked a little on the eyebrow area, twiched the jaw a little, overall face structure. thought I'd update before bed... stupid work :D

<edit : deleted this picture for the sake of leading the page.. was about as bad as the one after this post anyhow :P>

Couldn't resist a bit more tweaking.. bed time for real now :)

RodrigoRosa

it's a little complicated make a C&C seeing just the front view...... are you making a orient woman?? because her eyes are tiny.....

MrArmless
20-02-2004, 08:52 AM
i'm not aiming for an asian character, probably NA or European. I made the eyes a little bigger and worked some more on the structure, though I'm starting to think I should add some edges.. only 5 minutes left till I go to work tho, so here's a quick update!

thx for your c&c Rodrigo, & others feel free :)

Hehe, nice to see a female model that's not amazingly skinny :p the only critique i have the perspective view of her mouth, looks wrong...dunno how to explain it

MrArmless
20-02-2004, 01:53 PM
yeah I know :( I can see exactly where the edgeloop around the mouth is in the render I need to tweak that tonight. that and the sides of the face look like she's been underwater for a month or so :/

I'll try to fix that as I get home from work tonight.. on break at the moment. Thanks for your comment hpslashluvr :)

he're's a little project update. At this point I'm wondering if I stay with the ref pic for the jaw line cuz it's kinda wide or if I'm thinning it down. I also have no side ref so having a little trouble with depth, but here we go.. feel free to use a red marker on my image.

and perspective..

hpslashluvr
23-02-2004, 08:51 AM
I think her eyes are too small for her face and her nose needs to be wider. That would make the face shape look less wide. And there's some funky shadow I think around her eye. Maybe it's just my computer.

Why don't you post a ref pic? that way we can help you match it better:)

See how the base of her nose is wider and sort of comes near the eyes?

MrArmless

quick update... might be getting there. Will post the ref later.

oh no the angelina jolie reference :(
don't use it as a beginner!!! i'm serious, this is one of the worst references to start with... her head is looking down only her eyes are looking upwards... thats why her forehead is looking that huge...

MrArmless
24-02-2004, 06:09 AM
well.. I guess that's a comment.. anyone have a good set of reference pics then?

MrArmless

update, despite the great ref pics.

hpslashluvr
25-02-2004, 02:06 PM
i think this is looking a lot better than it did when you first started

however the head seems tilted....like the forehead should be straighter in this picture (like i'm talking about the right side of the picture where the left eye is...the area above that) ughhhh dunno how to explain it....draw a picture sometime later x.x;;;

there are some weird shadows on the face, i assume that's maybe just some file prob or smoothing issues

i think if you made the face more structured, like slightly skinner then it'd be better

i still think the bottom part of the nose, under the nostril, the outer bottom part that is red...just bring out the edge cuz on most ppl it is not completely flat under the nostril

also make the little dip between the nose and mouth

the width of the nose is just a preference but i still think that it could be wider, most ppl's noses come at least to the edge of their eyes

Hello again! Been working a little more on the face and added the "valley" beneath the nose and brough out the edges alongside the nostril, also worked a little on the bottom of the eyes and again on the side of the face. pulled chin down a little too. as for the width of the head I adjusted a little but waiting to see what I'll do with it.. I'll try to finish up on the head next and give her face a break until I've got a closed head and a neck.
Thx to both of you for taking the time to post your crits & good words, it's appreciated ^^

Re-worked the structure some, the edgeloops around the mouth were incorrect so I tried fixing them, sadly I ended up with a n-sided poly which I'll have to find a way to get rid of, but in the mean time, here's the progress (well.. i hope it's progress..)

 nice job...the head i dunno what's going on in the back but it's not smooth going back from the front view...i think the nose needs to be wider

MrArmless
09-03-2004, 06:13 PM
Thx hpslashluvr :) yeah sorry about the back of the head I sorta closed it pretty fast and haven't spent enought time on it yet, just wanted to close the head and set the jaw line, it actually helped the model, the bottom of her jaw was way too big. I'll be doing the ears before going back to the back of the head & the face, then I gotta work those lips, I was looking at people at the job today and I was like omg i'm really off. Anyways, guess what more tweaking to come :)

wow that looks really really good. :grr: haha jk i'm not mad at you. x.x

Only crit I have right now is the lips, they seem to go to a point and I think that it would look more natural if there were two points....dunno how to explain it, there's some tut in 3dtotal's tut section on the modeling of the mouth that explains it better.

Can you post a close-up wire of the nose from the side, especially the bottom part that leads into the cheek? I'm having trouble smoothing out that area with my model.

Hello, this post will be relativly short and simple. Just wanna say that my project isn't dead, been tweaking alot so I can get to texturing soon, I ordered the texturing book and lighting one on 3dtotal's homepage and waiting for them to get here to start, finalising details around the eyes, and added some edges that don't really show in the render but will, I hope, help with the animation when I get to that. I won't post an update yet, maybe in a day or two I'll ask for final crits before I move on to textures.

Rodrigo : thx, I am looking into that :)

Hp : sorry took my time, here's the shot you requested. Btw, I'd really like to see you work on your first female project, that body was coming along nicely.. :/

Hello anew, good folks.

Well, here I come with a little update, I hope you enjoy. I do have a favor to ask tho, when I recently tried to add some hair I though omg this almost looks like a male model... sooo.. I need to know what you guys think, and if you think the same, what features I need to work on. Note that the color is light based, no textures yet. Thanks for everything.

MrArmless

Oh and btw I noticed I was missing an edge in that wire I posted... :D

RodrigoRosa

imo the chin is too thick (picture) and the mouth could be smaller... look at some women' photographs

keep us update

cheers

Re-hello :)

A little update : I touched up the jawline as was mentioned and worked a little bit on the eye structure and tested some eyes, note that at this point it's the same texture for both eyes and I'll fix that soon. Also I did the eye using the joan tut and it creates a problem in the side view where the color isn't noticable, so I'll try to find another tut or experiment a little to fix this somehow. Crits still welcome :) next up, texture or hair.. dunno which I'll get to first.

I'd still make the jaw a little skinnier, it'd make it more feminine.

There is that eye tut on 3dtotal.com under photoshop i think, never tried it tho.

I'm having a bit of problem with the unwrap as you can see, I used a material ID that didn't include the ears and under the chin to prevent overlapping I thought I would do them using a different material ID but as you can see on the ear, it's painting the texture right over it.. I used a cylinder to unwrap. Also the side of nose looks pretty bad, any tips for me?

Hp : yeah thanks for the link, that texture tutorial is actually better than mine so I'll re-do the color using that one, but the problem actually lies with the structure of the eye.
