I know its a little to early in the stage to post the 3d pics of this but I need help with something that is really annoying me. I deleted a couple polys cause they were unnecasary and made the model look ugly replaced em with a single poly. But when I did that it shows the new poly in the perspective viewport but not in the top view and its a tad annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I could be wrong but check the normals and see which way they are facing for that face. I have run into this before and found that the normal was facing the opposite direction of the other faces. You might also check to see if double sided faces is turned off.

OH GOD...*smacks self in head*yes force 2 sided was on in the perspective viewport. I cant belive I didnt check to see if that was the problem before posting here...anyways...next post will be with more details added.

Ok..well I got a new pic with some new details added. And Im having a problem. Youll see by the arrows what I mean. Ive been trying to delete the faces and then creating new ones but they end up looking the same as before. Could someone help with that plus C&C IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!...lol

I can be wrong but i think that all the vertices have to be in the same plane. try picking up the four vertices and making them planar.

That happens due to the faces smoothgroups.
Are you going to model it without using Meshsmooth? Because if you are going to use meshsmooth you don't have to care about smoothgroups.
bullethead

There are going to be parts I use meshsmooth. But not on the whole thing.

*whipes sweat off brow* whew...thank god I save an earlier copy of this tank cause I just noticed I messed up majorly in the back end and nothing lines up. So this is more of a mess up update more then a good new stuff added update. Next update will be with a crap load of detail...will be in a couple days or so, so hang on to your diapers...lol

don't you think that render is kinda dark:p Do something with your GI and make it brighter and maybe someone will criticise this coz on this one you can't see nothing exceprt lots of dark.

i like the level of detail u have on it, though the tower needs alot of work
bullethead
18-03-2004, 01:27 AM
Thanks a bunch for the reply and crit...greatly appreicated. Yup I tottaly agree on the tower. see not everything is the same on both sides so I cant work on the tower untill im done with everything that can be cloned. So that leaves tweaking the tread wheels and making the treads then tweaking part of the back area and modeling the bottom part. Im just love 3d. This has to be one of the best things ive done so far. Again thnx for the comment.

I think it looks good but needs a lot of work yet. The wheels are ok but I think that the chain (i don't know how tio call them) are to tight, they don't look like the picture where the top ones aren't so tight.

woo...for a second there I didnt know what the hell you were talking about...but I know what you mean now...and I will be fixing that, thanks a bunch for pointing that out. greatly appreciated.

Another update...wOOt!!! lol This post wouldnt have been succesful without the Help from TMNI. He gave me tips on how to make the 2 handle bars near the top that you see, and plus ive created the rubber guards in the front of the tank...not a major update but it brings more life to the tank and to show you guys im still working on this bad boy. If you wanna see differnt views of the tank please ask I will provide.

Well I shouldnt have posted that last update because there will still some things I could have done before I did so. well anyways. I remember someone said the treads looked to tight so I made it look like they are looser. plus I updated the front pads up a bit. so here we go. Remember, if there is a certain angle you would like to see that would help you crit then please dont be afraid to ask Ill gladly get more pics. As well...C&C is appreciated.

You know...I find this moment I had really funny. I remember reading a thread in here awhile ago I belive started by clawda, and it was about a car subforum. And in there he was complaining because no one gets recognition in the inorganic forums unless they make cars.
Well Im making a tank and have posted up 2 new updates....yet...there is no reply. I belive I am doing a real good job on this tank and I could still use some tips and pointers yet no one replies except for my mates that ive asked too. I mean is the tank REALLY that bad or is it just because its not some sweet ferrari, porche, or bmw???? blah...so frustrated right now..oh well. I will still continue to post updates..since it seems im doing fine without anyones help. and if no one replies I dont give a crap anymore.

TOTALLY AGREE MAN!!! I THINK THERE ARE TONS OF CAR MODELERS OUT HERE.... this mite be a reason...
anyways lets get back to ur tank...
its amazing - u have really put in some nice work into the treads! its an excellent detail...
the only thing tht is bugging me is the top... is that the way it should be? coz according to me, its a bit weird (well i dont really know much bout tanks so dont mind my comment)
and 1 more thing man, u doing a nice job... ur modeling is really good!
dont be bothered if no1 replies to your scene!
Keep it up - waiting for this one...
its gonna be massive! :D
PS. dont u think tht top has some nice sharp edges?
try chamfering it, amount to 10, 20 so that you have some nice smooth edges

hey man :) yes it was started by me, and I understand your frustration yes noone does anything about it and there are several more artists like this...I expreienced this with my game scene, although that was in game art...
anyway, no man, your tank is cool, I love everything except for that blocky top, but I guess this is still just WIP
don't be discouraged by people not replying, and most important, don't take it personal cause I've seen one too many skilled artists pass by unnoticed

Wow. Thanks everyone for the replies. Now to answer questions.
G-69: Chamfering will be done when the little details that are needed for the top are done.
Nappa: I really didnt think about making the interior. I guess if I can find enough refernces I think I could do so and if my computer allows me too..lol...We will just see how well the final image of the tank looks first then Ill decide on that.
Everyone: Thanks for the encourging replies. This gives me even more reason to finish this now. I unfortunatly havent had much time to work on the tank lately so Ive only been able to box out the cannon system. When I am fully finished with the cannon I will make an update. Till then thanks again for the replies.
