Old 3D software?
Hi ppl

I was just looking over my old Pixar tapes and i was watching all of the old, but wicked cool, short films they did. Some date back to the early to mid eighties. I know that they are pretty much some of the pioneers that started off the whole 3D craze back when there was no Maya or Lightwave or 3D Studio Max. They programmed everything the hard way....and God bless 'em, we probably wouldn't have a 3d total if there was no such thing as a 3D in a virtual computer sense. My question to all of you hardcore 3D guys and gals out there is this- What were the first complete 3D packages out there....other than using code.....like is there a 3D package out there that i could throw on an old 386 - 486 processor based system. i would be really interested in seeing if there are 3D programs old enough to put on one....you know....just to see what it would be like....look into the past and see what people where doing in 3D back then.

Oh my there are alot older one s then for the processors u mentioned. 3d studio ( not max just 3ds ) came in 1990, and no it wasn't the first one. So u could prolly run 3ds 3 or 4 on those kind of machines thats what we had back then. I guess Amiga ruled in that day and age and probebly would still if it didn't go as it went with them. But wich one is the oldest one with an interface I dare not say. Anyone else?

I'm not sure about this
But, i think the first 3D modeling software was CAD.
for enginneering.

I started using Microstation in the early/mid 80s
Ran on a VAX mainframe.
cost about 30k a seat - times have changed ;)
