View Full Version : A character Head
04-03-2004, 03:03 AM
Hi!Everyone. While i m just bored when i was operating computer so i decided to do a head, no matter whther rough or neat but just wanted to do it.
Here it is:-
i think i should not write comments plz i should write critics plz.
04-03-2004, 03:33 AM
Hey there Mahammad the first thing i see is the mouth is not long enough ones mouth should come to about the middle of the eyes
04-03-2004, 03:42 AM
i will increase the size of mouth.
04-03-2004, 06:21 AM
I think you should work from the side of the head and start pulling back the vertices gradually, ie the face looks a bit flat and needs to be rounded. The nostrils need to be pulled out some and mouth is rather small. Keep it up!
05-03-2004, 01:34 AM
Okay i have done whatever u both told me
05-03-2004, 05:01 AM
I would like to see a wire render and also some 3/4 view renders. But i marked the next stuff i could find that looked off.
05-03-2004, 09:23 PM
i think u want me to make the hair as well as smooth out the head.
Right? actually i m asking because i m weak in english
I will start the hair after i will make the head.
sorry i donno what a 3/4 render is. And u will soon get a wireframe render.
06-03-2004, 01:26 AM
okay here is what u can get.
06-03-2004, 01:29 AM
06-03-2004, 01:31 AM
here is the perspective preview
06-03-2004, 01:33 AM
Show us a prespective view of the head, so we can show you what to fix.And a pic with no meshsmooth edged.
06-03-2004, 01:47 AM
OK.You have a problem with the edges position.
Take a look of this reference pic and whatch the lines.
06-03-2004, 04:12 AM
Great points Delavre i agree muhammad here is what i can see that needs work next.
06-03-2004, 06:06 PM
actually i have my exams starting from the ninth so i will have to take a break from now. its till 19 so i will start working ninth

nice reference dlavre
07-03-2004, 03:26 AM
here is the update: today is my last day of work.
07-03-2004, 03:31 AM
07-03-2004, 03:43 AM
its coming out smooth...but his forehead is way big.....keep working on it!
07-03-2004, 04:25 AM
nic so far looks like you got the edge loops right keep it coming:) added a pic to show some you can im prove on
add shape to the lip and creases by the nose and where i put the broken lines push the in a bit to give a brow
07-03-2004, 06:14 PM
here is the update. I have made him alittle old
07-03-2004, 06:17 PM
here is the wireframe
08-03-2004, 01:28 AM
Geoman told me that he looks very old so i m going to make him up a little young. And is he ready for texture or not?
plz tell me
08-03-2004, 01:29 AM
he looks 75 years old now!
08-03-2004, 06:00 AM
well, maybe don't make the creases so deep, and aren't they going in the wrong direction, should follow the loops of the head?? dunno
08-03-2004, 08:21 AM
Hey i think his upper lip is a little big. The wrikeles are to deap. You can make great wrikles with bump and texture maps and then its not so expensive when rendering. Unless he is not going to be animated then make it as heavy geometry as you want.
08-03-2004, 05:18 PM
should i decrease the deepness of the wrinkles??
hpslashluvr: sorry dunno what u wanna say?
secobb: okay i will adjust the lips and also will decrease the depness of wrinkles but i thinking of doing his body and then animating it.
if anyone know good texturing tut, i mean painting texture is PS
i stil can do a nice texture but can do a realistic texture.
09-03-2004, 08:42 AM
took this from julian's tut, see how the wrinkles aren't straight across the face, they go downwards not up?
09-03-2004, 12:11 PM
the wire frame needs some attendtion some plys are 5 sided so try and fix those :o
09-03-2004, 09:35 PM
hpslashluvr : i have got ur point and i think i have seen this pic in a texturing tut. May be i m wrong, if u know any good tut of texturing so i can experiment out his head.
i m thinking of creating the wrinkles with bump map as they make it look good but that all will be after the body is made. And i m going to just remove the wrinkles
LIMBAUL_ABIGGOR: sorry i dont think that there r hexagons(four sided polys) we might can see it in this render(i can't see) but that will be because all the tweakingsrnt seen clearly.
hope u r getting my point.
SEE YA Waqas
10-03-2004, 06:06 AM
I think the Mad Eye Moody tut is good, it's for Maya users I think, but it's pretty much self-explanatory. It's on 3dtotal.com under tutorials.
10-03-2004, 10:16 AM
maybe think about fixing these 5 sided and 8 sided ones hope it helps , i would look at a head tutorial and maybe do that the topolagy is a bit off:( , keep working though, and make us proud:o
10-03-2004, 04:05 PM
I don't think all of those are 5 sides or 8 sided, maybe the vertices are just hidden b/c he pulled them back.
10-03-2004, 09:59 PM
i think i m going to say what hpslashluvr has just said.
the edges there r hidden: i will try to give u a render soon.
Actually i have really decreased the wrinkles but havent removed them!
I have also adjusted the upper lip.
sorry to say but i forgot to render and my 3dsmax runs in winxp and now i m in win98.
11-03-2004, 01:06 AM
ok here is what i was talking about.
11-03-2004, 04:18 AM
looking better man , i would fix the lips its to sharp and try and put a shpere behind the eyes and and shape the eye lids around it to make it rounder:o looking better though:cool:
11-03-2004, 04:23 AM
Yeah Muhammad its starting to look really nice the wrinkles are more subtle now. Im not sure what it is but the lips are still weirds some how; but i cant figure out what it is.
11-03-2004, 09:49 AM
The line between the lips is too straight If you have some magazines check through them also most people have tiny dimples at the very ends of that line when their lips are closed.
Also the lips towards the corner of the mouth curve in, check your top or bottom view you should have a slight "U" shape. Or atleast a shape hinting at a "U". Overall its a good job
but believable lips can make a character go a long way.
11-03-2004, 09:15 PM
secob: plz tell me what should i do with the lips
Ironboot: i can understand a little but still cant say anything
Ok here is what u can get as update:
i have made the smooth and create the sphere inside eye and textured it.
and adjust the lips. sorry i had done many things but i donno why that file wasnt working.
the eyes r looking opposite to each other :D
12-03-2004, 10:35 PM
i have done something more
12-03-2004, 10:48 PM
Good work on the last update, a big improvement! The mouth looks much better now etc., needs a little more work though. The eyes needs to be improved, make sure you have a good reference picture, the eye is hard to get right.
13-03-2004, 01:51 AM
can u plz tell me what improvement should i make in the eyes.
13-03-2004, 02:17 AM
Thats pretty good muh, but you need asome helpw tih some stuff. Now the forehead is 2 big... now with hair it may look better, but to me it looks a bit bigger than it shoudl be. The eys are way to big.. or too much of them are showing.. look at some referneces of eyese dude.... myabe close the eyelids a bit, that would probably do the trick.
Overall its very impressive, ha ha i remember when you started here... big improvment buddy :)
13-03-2004, 04:27 AM
okay thanx for
i m thinking of increase the length of the edge and hide some eye balls using eyelids.
more c&c. plz
13-03-2004, 04:27 AM
Hey Muhammad I haev been away from computers for a bit but here is the direction you should take the mouth. Notice the curves of the lips. I like that way you gave him a strong jaw line. I do agree that the forehaed is to large.
13-03-2004, 05:24 AM
if u need help with Some sub-surface scattering for the texture...u know my email!;) ...any help for the material....ask me!
13-03-2004, 09:35 PM
ok thanx secob:
geoman: ok i will ask u when i will need any maps from u but i want to do it myself so i will just experiment and test ur map and i wanna paint the texture in photoshop
13-03-2004, 09:54 PM
Very nice head you got there.
Just smooth a bit the ears and fix a bit the nose.
13-03-2004, 09:59 PM
I thing the face in front view is a bit flatten...
Keep up the good work fella.!
Essential vaaapp (http://essentialvaaappvaporizer.com)
13-03-2004, 11:48 PM
Could be useful to see some other views of the head too.
14-03-2004, 02:00 AM
countzero: u r going to get the renders soon
Ok everyone tell me which on is better
i have modifed the nose
14-03-2004, 02:11 AM
The second one dude, very cool!
14-03-2004, 02:28 AM
You are really improving mate. When I think back to your early efforts, you have come along very far in a short space of time, keep it up. You need to keep working this character, until we see a bit of personality coming through. This is still a fairly early stage so, I will see how it develops a little more before I add any real direct suggestions.
Oh yeah, the second one seems to have better cranial proportions.
14-03-2004, 02:32 AM
k' but can u tell me which one's better. i agree with what JasonLovie said but i want suggestions from everyone. But still cant understand what u wanted to say. thanx
14-03-2004, 02:35 AM
Well the first one looks as though his skull is overly wide, so the second is a smoother contour and works better in my opinion.
14-03-2004, 04:24 AM
monte is right....i wud say that the upper lip is a bit thin....its well in shape....but if u make it a bit more to the up.....that wud be really nice!
14-03-2004, 04:27 AM
hi Muhammad :) great improvment you're doing there! but you have to remember one thing.. there's no such thing as a wrong nose, wrong eye, wrong head shape. of course you have to be careful so you don't do anything humanly impossible.. so just concentrate on achieving your goal (either a photograph, a sketch or your imagination) :)
and about those two images you post there, I didn't see any difference in the shape of the head.. but the part bellow the eye (don't know the name in english! hehe:D ) and it looks a little more pronunced in the right one
that's it :) there's not much to criticize, just keep it working and you'll have what you are looking for, good luck duude! :D
14-03-2004, 07:25 AM
I like the second one the nose is slightly wider right? Muhammad You nailed the mouth as far as im concerned. I do think that the skull is still a bit to large. I cant wait to see some rendred images.
14-03-2004, 04:07 PM
i will do whatever u people have just said but i cant do it now as i have already mentioned that 3dsmax runs in other window and internet in other window, this is a prob with me.
actually i m really happy that people r coming
here r some renders with an a noise bump map. dont get worried about that
14-03-2004, 04:10 PM
front: again with very small update
actually i have also updated the mouth already and am now going to show u the render but after this one
14-03-2004, 04:15 PM
k' here is the mouth render.
14-03-2004, 04:20 PM
here is a wireframe render
14-03-2004, 11:02 PM
no replies hmmmm...
ok here is what i have done
Lambaul told me that the nose should be a little wide so here it is. The mouth is also adjusted and some other adjustments r made. i have almost removed the bump map.
Secobb if u dont that this nose ir right then i should change but i did it because i didnt see ur post before
15-03-2004, 04:24 AM
Really cool so far.
Try to post a pic in left view
15-03-2004, 04:52 AM
Muhammad I think the nose is looking good. The mouth could have a bit more curve in it but it is also lookign really nice. But with the combination of all those features it feels like he needs to have olive colored skin. Like an italin or a greek might have. I think the bump was a bit to strong before i like that you toned it down a bit. Layering bump maps always adds a nice effect.
15-03-2004, 09:02 PM
Ok dlavre i will post soon. and i need help from u to give me pics of various people of itlians and greek people.
Secobb: I will try to add some more curve.
i have modified the nose alittle
16-03-2004, 12:36 AM
here is a small update
16-03-2004, 02:41 AM
here is the left render
16-03-2004, 02:43 AM
Man thats not bad at all, add more detail to the ears though :)
16-03-2004, 03:00 AM
So here i draw some lines so you can understand well.
16-03-2004, 03:03 AM
and make the neck more roundet
16-03-2004, 02:04 PM
There seems to be something wrong with the ear, but I've only made one before so don't ask me....maybe like it's too wide between the outside edge and where the little inside ridges start? ehhhhh someone help me here :D
17-03-2004, 09:58 AM
The ear seems like you modeled, attached and welded it to the head and left the rest to meshsmooth the side closest to the front of the face needs to be flattened and molded a bit. All the detail inside the ear is slightly wrong, take a gander at your year in the mirror or look at magazines. I get most of my references from nudy magazines...is that so wrong??? The ridge on the rim of your ear should curve into the middle, yours does it but the hard edge faces down rathe than up if you know what I mean. Someone post a pic of an ear and make this guys job easier... If not Ill post one soon. I like this thread Im going to give it a 4 for progress
17-03-2004, 12:29 PM
Hey Muhammad - This pic is what i think you should do to your model. The ear is a little small and could use more mesh detail, but it is not entierly necisary to add that in the mesh because you can get alot of deatial out of a texture. Also the nostrils are odly shaped. But its looking really nice.
17-03-2004, 08:59 PM
okay dlavr something is updated almost all of it.
ok hapslashluvr cant understand what u wanna
irobboot: i cant understand a little of what u r saying. i dont use nudes because i dont wanna have em.
and 4 r u talking about. so cant understand
Secob: i think the various skulls r different and i will try to work on it but i dont this so that it should be like this but stil i will work on it.
17-03-2004, 09:06 PM
here is front i ve made other corrections as well
18-03-2004, 09:01 PM
hoooh. ok i will show u update soon.
18-03-2004, 09:33 PM
Wow man, your model really improved over the course of this thread. It still needs some work, but it looks nice. Keep at it :) .
18-03-2004, 11:07 PM
here is the front update
18-03-2004, 11:12 PM
ok here is what u can get from the perspective. As u people can already see i have experimented a texture, just experimented!
18-03-2004, 11:16 PM
here u can see the left
19-03-2004, 06:19 PM
The nostrils need work and I think the material is a tad bit too splotchy.
There's nothing wrong with posting something if you are going to comment on your own work, but dude guy, look at the ratio between the number of your posts that are mostly one-liners asking for crits - that and the number of posts that other ppl have given you. It's only going to turn ppl off if you just post to ask ppl to reply. And if you write in all caps. Just a tip. No offense intended man.
19-03-2004, 06:26 PM
okay i m going to modify the nostrils and just remove the map again! I will also email geoman for a skin shader. if he can see here than plz just do. Actually but that will be after sometime
i have removed that post!
19-03-2004, 08:22 PM
the lower lip is kinda pointed......from the left view....the face looks kinda stretched....u have modelling skills, thats admitted...but propotions are essential...
one more thing i have noticed a bit....i wud like u to give an expression to this head....a smile....u can do that with the lips.....right now, dont mind,i wud say he looks as if someone slapped him hard....
moreover....when you are done with it....try doing a cylidrical UV mapping and paint the texture in photoshop.....for the rest of the translucency settings...i wud like to help u when you are there....
good luck with this head!
20-03-2004, 02:13 AM
hi Muhammad! :) the improvments that you have been doing since the first time i came here are impressive! I do not want to criticize much because you're still working and probably know where all the flaws are. just a sugestion.. the ear is a very delicated part, try using a reference :)
 <-- is this cool or what! :D :D
20-03-2004, 02:50 AM
Geo man can you help me texture dude, COME ON MSN!
Good stuff muh... you are showing HUGE improvments :)
21-03-2004, 01:40 AM
Geoman: maybe u r right. So i will give him an expression. and about the texture, i wanted to just modify the tones in 3dsmax and then export it as a texture in photoshop so it will benefit me. But i can do much things in photoshop but still i will be thankful to u people if u give me a good human skin tut.
Diego: thanx for ur suggestion but man i like comments because i do the work to be just criticesed not suggested heehee.. joking
21-03-2004, 04:17 AM
okay i have done some changes with the skin, nostrils and have explained the ear details. and also i have made changes with the eyes. and modified some more smalll things
GEOMAN: Sorry i didnt try to create any expression, because it would make him just suck.
I want help with the eyes. I donno whats the problem with them but i think there is a problem with them.
here is front render
21-03-2004, 04:20 AM
here is the ear render
21-03-2004, 04:23 AM
here is the left
21-03-2004, 04:59 AM
You still need to make the area around the nostrils thicker, and the ear needs more depth, it's too flat right now. I suppose some ppl might have ears like this, but most ears go pretty deep.
21-03-2004, 05:22 AM
hpslashuvr is right...from the front view...the lower part of the nostrils is really awkward....more over....i wud suggest rendering with a light.....that will tell u about ur shadow problems.....
u are going nice with it....u have ur exams finished now...u can work hard...!
21-03-2004, 05:26 PM
haplashluvr: I wanna know what kinda flatness does the ears have. i will modify the nostrils
geoman: okay i will add light and modify the nostrils. yeah my exams r over.
23-03-2004, 01:36 AM
All the ear is a flatten shape, so make it more roundet.
The other things are fine
23-03-2004, 01:42 AM
i have made another ear. About the roundness i will make it as u have told me Dlavre
here is a render of an ear i have made. i havent created the hole in the ear
23-03-2004, 01:44 AM
Its quite good but show as a front pic of the ear.
23-03-2004, 01:41 PM
he looks cross-eyed
23-03-2004, 05:53 PM
sorry cant understand what do u wanna say. Like what kinda cross eyed. Can u explain it plz?
ok i have modified the ears that are already attached to the head but forgot to render:(
here is the render of the front of the ear without the head
23-03-2004, 06:26 PM
looking good i attache the ear pic dont for get the curves it side the ear
23-03-2004, 06:27 PM
23-03-2004, 06:35 PM
25-03-2004, 03:26 AM
here is the update, i mean i have just modified the flatteness of the ears
25-03-2004, 03:38 AM
here is a light render
25-03-2004, 03:50 AM
looking better dude:) maybe show us the side view;)
25-03-2004, 03:56 AM
soo huge ears?
25-03-2004, 04:04 AM
IDownUp: i also think that but the experienced 3d artists over here were asking me to increase the size of the ear as u can see the diagrams drawn by the artists here.
25-03-2004, 12:42 PM
I don't they're necessarily too big, it's just that maybe they turn too much, should be closer to the head a little?
oh, and the shadows are really weird on the lighted piece around the nose.
26-03-2004, 01:29 AM
Yeah its true, the ears are a little big.And in front view the ear looks very flat, fix that. You can use for references your ear:!!!:
27-03-2004, 04:04 AM
here is the front update and render.
27-03-2004, 04:15 AM
here is a left render
27-03-2004, 10:55 AM
Heh, now the ears are too small (IMO), they were too big before, so try to make them between the current size and the old size :) The position might be wrong too, maybe push them forward a bit (I'm not sure though, so wait and see what the others think).
Your skills has really improved with this model I think. The only other major problem now is that the ears look very flat.
27-03-2004, 12:22 PM
I think the only probs are that the area around the eyes are too sharp, specially from the profile view, and the nostrils still need work
you improved a whole bunch, good job
27-03-2004, 05:17 PM
countzero: u will get the update soon thanx
hpslashluvr: U will get update and also can u just post a pic about the nostrils. thanx
02-05-2004, 11:03 AM
Amazing improvment Mohamed
Very good job:)
02-05-2004, 10:16 PM
thanx for ur comments.
04-05-2004, 12:54 PM
may just be me but i think that the ears look a little too low
