Awesome.
...but... the edges of the jacket shouldn't be round, the eyes are too far apart, and you should work more on the eyebrow area and cheeks. I can't really explain what is wrong, but it needs some small tweaking
Waiting for a masterpiece :)
his vest will get changed, didn't start modelling the folds on this, thats why its round in the corners... can't agree with the changes tho, but i'll take a look at it later when i'm doing the hair, maybe some distance to the model will be good for me ;)

guy this is an awsome job! ! !
Really great work everything looks fine in the modeling...Just one thing in the overall ...I'd make his face looks harder a bit like a bad guy 'cause there it looks as if he was a cooker or a merchant but not a dragon master...See waht I mean maybe get his chin bigger same for the eyebrow...
Great work I always wonder how do you guys do to model those cloth so nicely...
Keep us apdated !
nope definately no harder face, i don't want that stereotype, disney thingie, i don't want him to look like the bad guy, or the good guy, you don't know it till you know him... stereotypes suck :p
well a lot of his face is getting lost because of the gi lighting in max he looks a bit different, and with textueres he will also look changed... whatever i'm not going to change is face yet ;)
"Great work I always wonder how do you guys do to model those cloth so nicely..."
cloth aint that hard, use your clothing for reference, look ehere it streses look how folds are moving, currently he has two stresspoints on his shirts where he sticked his shirt into his belts, another stresspoint are the collar and his shoulders, so this is where the wrinkles are going to, thats the whole thing :)
great work...the cloths are very well done...
keep up...

yeah well I konw what you mean by stéreotype but in fact I was more talking about reallity I mean if that guys oftren with dragon you expect him to be quiet tugh and muscular 'cause theyr'arent tiny creatures...Or else jis just a rider like horses jockey or even o castel lord with great apparas like indian maharajah on elephants...Depends what you're aiming...
But I agree with you with that stereotype idea but I must say that he looks quiet muscular so it seemed weird to me that he gets to have such a cute face...
Anyway maybe his story 'll prove me wrong like beast calm down by music or I don't know maybe somthing else
And for teh cloth I see waht you mean but it the ability of keeping the mesh clean and cuting so easaly in the mesh that iI don't get...I always think an hour then work four and ends by getting somthing I throw away...
Bye !
well first of all the unshaded version of his face looks a bit more tough, i just can't set up the light right to get all details i've done correct... the second thing is that i wanted him to be more the athletic kind of guy, not the barbarian, he is sporty and fast... look on guys like vega (streetfighter) oder cloud (final fantasy, advent children) both tough guys with "cute" faces, i like this kind of oxymoron, everyone thinks he just can't ride a dragon or just can't fight, and the he goes up to the air and kicks their asses :D
"always think an hour then work four and ends by getting somthing I throw away"
one thing... don't think! i'm serious, don't think befor doing, do it, go on you can't go wrong, you've got feeling if it looks wron to you change it, but don't do plans for edgeloops and stuff, this blocks your creativity just do it don't think about it, its like Neo in the matrix, jump over those buildings don't think about it you CAN do it :)

yeah I'll try this thanks !
As for the char ok then i see what your up too can be really great thin guy quickmoves maybe has a good old sword !or couples of ropes !like chinese fighters...
Anyway really d'like to see where you're going(fantasy or scifi maybe a good old mix...)Can't wait hope you'll dig it quick ! !
Bye the way great work on the RLA project used too folow it wile a wip !Great work !
nice modelling! i really like the clothes!
great great!
uh girls are unfair, didn't have much time yesterday
but i did a small concept for the pants, maybe they are getting a bit wider where they are sticked in his boots, but the design is "fresh" enough I guess :)
hope you like it

Yep agree with larger pants 'round the shoes !
Maybe you could get him those boots that some use for horses you know those that goes really high with straps It'll fit him great he kinds of remind me of the horses traineres with those tight armless jacket ! !

The clothes are looking really good!
ok i had a few problems with max at home, and i only got all the licensing stuff at work :/
so i started to work on the clothing design (proportions are really off, but well, who cares its all about the clothing ;) )

exctaly as I thaugt it'd be ! ! ! great ! !
Maybe long hair ?!?And the spears looks pretty heavy for those thin arms maybe the spear should be a mix between arabic curved sword and katana...Or the nice old tow handed blade wich could work with a bit of speed...Strating to slash the air by rotation...
Don't really know...
Anyway keep on modeling ! ! !Can't wait to see the progress !

Its a sword silly... and I love it, maybe make it so there are flames like covering it... special attack or somthing, i don't know, i have been playing Diablo too much, ha ha :)

Nice concept dude.
@chaos_seed: turn on your fantasy! the blade of this sword is made out of ultralight but diamond hard steel, you can make blades as big as a man with the weight of a normal sword/katana/whatever ;)
as i said he is not meant to look hyperrealistic and totally believable, let him keep his big sword, he really likes it... maybe he has to compensate some things with his dragon and his sword
@the others: thank you very much :)

awesome chadacter, I love the concept. For the face of your character, it'd be cool if he had the same as in your last concept, looks cool.

Wow I really dig the concept. Looking forward to seeing him complete.

The wrinkles of his clothes are incredible... really nice. Are you going to animate him??? Cause moving all that wrinkles can be really a problem.
nico3d
22-03-2004, 05:19 PM
the clothing looks amazing ! the foldings and wrinkles can be really really hard to animate though....
Thats incredible Neox! Even better than I allready expected. Keep going!
The only thing that bothers me is his waistcoat. The belt at its back seems to be very heavy if it pulls that much downwards without much weight on its lower end... the coat should be less wrinkled in the upper area where the belt is connected. And compared to the back the coat should get some soft wrinkles in front too.
Phynius Gauge
22-03-2004, 09:03 PM
I don't think those wrinkles are totally realistic, but it looks freakin' awesome anyways. Keep up the good work man.
@da3ex: the vest isn't even close to finished ;) there will be more wrinkles on the front too (he will get some buckles there)
can't agree with that wrinkles on the back strap, i tested it out with some cloth and it wrinkles like this in that area ;)
@Phynius Gauge: I know :(
the worst area is the back of his left leg (pretty hard to get this stuff rebuilt in reality with normal pants ;) ) , but his shirt and the back of the vest are pretty much close to the real tests i did with may shirts and an old jacket modified to work like this vest ;)

well played ! Great modeling as always ! ! Just wondering how did the tow parts of the pants are welded together 'cause they are'nt no button ar straps....Maybe it's just scratch ?!?
One thing that I did'nt notice at first the back side of the jacket is just way higher than the front maybe a bit too much no ???An d tha pants has a good modeling but on legs has no wrinkles...
Maybe that you could try testing it on a cloth putting a button closing it get some stuff inside and see how it gets deformed...Or maybe just testing it with some 3D plugins such as STITCH wich is perfect for those types of clothings !
Good luck ! !Nice to see some update ! !
as i said the pants isn't even close to finished he'll get some buckles (right word?) there...
and NO to clothsimulations 100% total disagree from my side :D
Sorry but clothsimulations do suck, really... you don't have any posibility to controll it, you can't say, that the pant is sticked there into the boots you cant say how stiff the belts are and how much pressure they are doing... what works are shirts (over the pants), or robes or skirts everything thats just falling down is possible anything else pretty much not ;)
well but maybe i haven't tried it for a long time, i tried simcloth and a old version of reactor (max4 times)
another thing is that i'm not going to animate him, because he is just a freetime fun model, maybe i'll texturize him, but i guess not... the fun part is the modelling anything else is work ;)
so i just want to have 100% control of the mesh and how it looks like and i'm not going to change that ;)

What happened to this dude. I want an update. I'm warning you... Does this look like a face that plays around :blah: . Well? Does it? ;) Just kidding man I hope you didn't drop this guy. :ufo: :grr: :p  :shout: :shout:
i didn't drop him but i'm currently pretty stressed so i won't find the time to do it right now... i want to finish this model, thats for sure :)

cool, a long time ago i made a character with the same name, but had no resemblence to this
well dragonrider is not really a name, more a job :D
but maybe i'll call him Raul :p j/k
thanks for all your kind words :)

nice drawing !Do you know 'bout lanfeust he is a dragon rider too and his has a thin dragon you might be intrested in looking at it !
What's that no texture about !!!!come on you can make a great image with that guy !!!
sorry i'm not going to copy someones dragon ;)
about the texture thing... a good model can survive without any textures, this is just meant to be fun, texturing is no fun... modelling is :p

Woah. I'm blown away man...
Now THIS is how I want my model to eventually look like! *nods at the Dragon Rider renders* :D
Man! These are going into my inspiration folder for sure. Hope ya don't mind.
It's a shame it won't be animated though. Something this cool to just stand there like that... tell me that you are going to at least bust out a few poses!
Keep up the excellent work!
well depending on how bored i am with him i'll give him to the public for you to learn and to rig and skin him for me :D

LOL
Hey if you do make it public, I wouldn't mind taking it for a little ride in a short I'm workin on... Part of the reward of learning to skin/rig is seeing the character in action, right? could be fun. ;)
I'll hover around and see what you decide.
