I a;most finish this spaceship. I'm working on the textures right now. I was thinking of getting some feedback from you.
Thanks

nice work, i like it!
i like the design and the model looks good.
But the render doesnt help too much, post a brigther render, and maybe a couple of perspective views.
I would like to see how you are going to unwarp this mesh. Just because this is hard stuff to me each time im texturing a model. So if you want and have som extra time please post the making of the texturing process...

Here is the wrapping. It's not really clear but...

This is just a render to show the model, when i finished the textures i will composite everything.
Thanks

buenas!
Que estas haciendo tan al norte???
a lo nuestro:
whats better? unwraping the model after or before meshsmooth?
if you do after you have a lot of mesh to unwrap
i fou do befor you have less mesh but what happend to the final result?
The mapping looks cool, but the shader looks like plastic.

cheers from Uruguay!

aca tratando de sobrevivir.
Ok , i think that if you unwrapped after you do the meshsmooth you can apply the textures with more precison. Because sometimes the shape change a lot after the meshsmooth.
I'm still working on the shades, and you are right it looks like plastic.

Hi,
Nice ship you gave me some motivation to make one myself.
I am kinda new to modeling but what i heared is never apply uvm unwrap on top of mesh smooth. I could be totoaly wrong but you get more feedback soon enough i guess.
Keep it going

Madmenno maybe you are right, and now it;s too late for me because i already started working on the textures. Maybe next time.

Nice model, as for the textures, Iīd suggest a bit of variation for the overall blue colour, plus some dents on the panels; it looks a bit toyish at the moment and those changes should fix that.
ignanacho
24-03-2004, 01:08 PM
Do you think a should put more colours, instead using only blue??
I tried to put some damaged on the panels, maybe the texture isn't good. I going to keep working on it. Thanks

No, different tones of the blue youīre already using, ligh tones for the protruding areas to show some paint bleaching, darker in the crevices and places where light wouldnīt shine so bright, patches of slightly different colour where the paint had been re-touched, stuff like that
Look at the picture bellow, (not a spaceship, but good for illustration :) ) See how the overall green is not uniform, it has faded on the more exposed areas while in the door corners, for example, it remains more solid.

Ok, i thing I got it. I'm going to change the paint tonight, thanks.
Great model that truck!!

What do you think about the lighting??.
Goig!
25-03-2004, 12:03 PM
It doesnīt look bad, perhaps a bit more soft, and some brown light reflected from the ground; what kind of lighting setup did you use?
ignanacho
25-03-2004, 12:13 PM
I used 6 different lights with a kliow intensity. and a light with a .7 intensity. You are right I have to put some bounced lights.
Thanks
ignanacho
25-03-2004, 08:08 PM
Ok, this is a new one. I used a light dome and a spot light with a .8 intensity. It looks good but not real, I don't know if it it the lighting, textures, both.
Thanks

It looks nice. DOes it just lie on the floor, or does it have some landing gear or struts.
ignanacho
26-03-2004, 04:08 AM
It just lue on the floor, i didn't think about a landing system, now it too late.
But I am more concerned about tryinbg to make it look real, so please helkp me there.
Thanks

Try this lighting rig, scale it so the larger ring of lights is twice the size of the model; move the rig so the spot target is focused on the starship. You may have to adjust the ambient light.

Goig, thanks for the lightong, it really made a big difference.
How can i make it look like daylight??
De Peņarol??
Thank you!

Itīs supposed to be a daylight lighting.
Anyway, the omnis in the rings are instances, so you have to change only one light, and the others in the same ring change as well, so you can fiddle with the parameters if you like; but to begin with increase the ambient light if itīs too dark.

Me neither, it was a stupid joke.
Yes you are right, i am changing the omnis now, and it's looking better. But aren't you supposed to always have the ambient light in black?
Thanks

Usually, yes; wasnīt it black on the scene I gave you?
I'd also recommend changing the background.. the size of the bumps on the ground makes it look very much like a nicely detailed toy on the carpet.

Yes , you are right about the backgroud, i didn't have tiem to change it yet, it looks like a carpet. I'm trying to make an airport kind of thing, but it's going to take time.
Thanks.

THis is a new update
What do you think about this one??
Goig!
29-03-2004, 11:21 AM
Much better, the ligthing is a good improvement. ;)
However the DoF is a complete give-away, it makes it look like a photo of a miniature, if I were you Iīd remove it completely.

hi guys,
really nice work, much better than the last time i was here. I agree about the small toy look, but i think you can use the DOF anyway, perhaps you should change the point of view... Make it lower, like a first person view and put down the camera lens too, maybe about 28mm. This will make the ship looks bigger.
see you.
edit: now i see the floor and i think the texture is too big, this is making the floor look like a kitchen floor, try making a smaller texture with smaller tiles and separations. The bump is too blurry too.
hope helps...

I would go for an even look....neither colorful nor monochromatic....
BTW, nice work, compatriota !

thanks everybody for the replies, You are right it looks like the floor is a kitchen floor. And the texture is too blury. I'm going to fix it, maybe tomorrow.

I really like the concept.. but now this scene looks unnatural.. something is wrong. It looks like a paper or plastic model or sth.

31-03-2004, 11:31 AM
I think is the lighting taht i used. it's too green. And i am also having problems getting the right meterial. I don;t know if i shlud use a high specular and low glossiness or....(my specular level is 40 and my glossiness is 0
Goig!
31-03-2004, 12:47 PM
Perhaps a bit more specularity and glossines; although the best thing is to use a specular map (hereīs a trick, for the glossiness use the same map but in the material editor go to the bitmap parameters, in the Output rollout select "Invert", itīs a fast way of making a matching glossiness map)
Anyway, the specular map should show different shades of grey, light where thereīs metal, darker in the panel lines, stains and painted areas.
P.S: yep, the green lighting doesnīt look very good. ;)
ignanacho
02-04-2004, 12:32 PM
as specular i am using the layer that containes all the scratch and dirt.
And I also want it to reflect a little bit, the kinsd of reflection that all the cars in this forum have.
Thanks for the help!
