Hi,

I am completing a GCSE Product Design course, and need to think up a product which I can redesign, and then build as a model. I am allowed to ask people if they have any ideas, and was just wondering if anybody here could think of a product which they feel could be redesigned, AND have a model built of it.

I would really appreciate any help you throw at me...:p

Thanks,

Sorry - I didn't explain myself at all...

Basically, I must design a small product (like a CD Disk Holder), and then make a model. It has to be a small(ish) item, that can be redesigned.

I;m not talking about a CG model, an actual wooden model...

This is hard to explain... thanks anyway! :o

Ah now its clearer! :)

a cd holder would be a nice thing!

there are lots of possibilities for the size, the color and especially the shape!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

thisn one's is nice:

this one's not bad...

hope this is what you meant by "cd disk holder" :)

there are so much possibilities if you are not only using wood to build it. :)

Glass or acrylglass always looks nice, metal pipes are nice too.
plastic may look great as well! :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

if something else comes into my mind ill let you know. :)
hope i helped you a bit.

Thanks!

Although, it would be nice to move away from the CD Rack...

I might do that though...

Most people are talking about designing a CD Rack, and as you said, there are many possibilites... although... if you have any other ideas - post 'em!

Thanks a lot for those pics - if I do the CD Rack project, they will come in useful! :D

i think most people are doing these CD racks becasue they are cool and useful.
its difficult to find things which are useful AND cool! :D

----------------------------------------------------------

i thought about somthing else:

what about a wall clock?

clockworks are easy to get and i think there is lots of room for design!

once i made such a clock myself. i simply took an old cd and put a clockwork to it. needles to the other side-finished. :)
ok thats pretty simple but i think if you think about it you'll find some more ideas.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

well, its late already...and my english really sucks, doesnt it?
hope you're a t least understanding what im trying to say. :D ;)

Yer - you are SO right... I have ideas already....

I think I can get a good grade if I put in enough work - and enough designs...

Also, there are a lot of existing products to look at.

You don't realise how much you have helped..:D

Jon.

P.S. My Display Pic is better than yours :p Joke!

A Swedish company introduced a new design-concept for personal computers, at the Cebit in Germany, this year.

To replace the ever so often seen greyish computer-grey plastic casing for monitors and other peripherical items such as mouses and keyboards, they put made wooden casings!

A tft in a wooden-box - looked way cool and quite unique. Perhaps that would be an idea to look into: Old concepts in new materials.

Ive done that same course coolguy123, albeit some *cough* years ago

The advice I would give you is pick something simple and start producing work (bits of paper) for it as soon as possible. Keep all the research you do even if it seems useless. You can stick it all together near the end of the project, and it looks really impressive. You could spend a month and thinking up a really great idea, and then find later:

1: Its difficult to gather research material on it
2: Its too hard to make it
3: You run out of time

Ive seen that happen so many times. It might be boring to make a CD holder, but come the day to hand in your project you are going to be laughing at the guy next to you that has some wonderful design on paper, but only a couple of pages of research and not even half of it built

Goodluck

Thanks SO much!

I am doing the CD Rack - and I have already started research...

I think that if I put in enough effort, I will end up with a project which I will really enjoy.

:D Now to the drawing board! :D
