Hollywood moviie without fights or gun scenes. aaaahhh,,,,ahhhhh. well there is , aahhh no, not that one. I got nothing. Just kidding.
Try "City of Angels". It is a good movie too and they speak relatively slow. Another on is "leaving Las Vegas".

If you have access to TNT Classic Movies or Cartoon Network that's where I would begin (which is why i began there ;))

What about romantic comedy, like “50 first dates” (No guns or shooting at all)

actually i have not got any acces to tnt or stuff like that...so the only way I have to learn english is by watching DVDs (or divx...u know)
At the moment I saw 'Bowling For Columbine' ,'Lord of the rings'(I can barely understand the scottish accent of the dwarf ...u know the one with the redbear..),Matrix and the latest film with Charlize Theron called 'Monster' (The only word I got from the last movie i have written is : f*ck)....
but thanks again for your precious comments.

Well, I'm not sure about recommending movies to someone trying to learn english, but you should try to find movies that are heavy on dialogue.
Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction come to mind, although both have guns, voilence and swearing. You could try to find the wonderful Canadian movie Highway 61 about a small town barber who finds a dead body in his backyard, a punk rock groupie shows up claiming it's her brother but she stuffs cocaine into his mouth so she can smuggle drugs across the American border. And they are being chased by the devil. Great movie.
Moonlight Mile is another good drama, as is The Shawshank Redemption.

If all you want is to discover new words, you would be better off reading books IMHO
You might have to watch 50 films to get the new words you would probably get out of a single bit of good literature

...I have read 'Songlines' by Bruce Chatwins...the author of 'Patagonia'....but it was too complicated and frustrating to understand it properly and effeciently.

I think there is something to the point about listening to the way the words are said. Listenniong and speaking a language is much deferent than reading. It is obvious you can write.

Actually, animation is probably good...Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Shrek, etc. They're rated PG and geared towards a younger audience, so there's probably more body language to help convey meaning.
Also, you can get TV series on DVD and video...maybe "Friends" or something...that would have a little slang, but nothing that would get you in trouble ;)

yeah, i agree with artchick, probably all Pixars movies would be good (pure and simple English, made so a 6 year old who grew up speaking English can understand it). also because Pixar is a family oriented company everything they've ever made has been rated G

lmao!!!I watched 'The Holy Grail' last 'knight'....very funny ,ironic...as usual I like Monty Python films...but I feel more comftarble with american accent...I don't know why ,but the typical english accent makes my comprhension of a movie three times more diffcult...i knda understand better americans...perhaps because i always watched more americans(canadians) stuff....
I have a question for you :Does Stewie from family guy have a scottish accent?...anyway...what a lovely way to talk....
