hey, i think you have an excellent start. there are a lot of features there that look anatomically accurate. however, they don't all seem to match up with each other.
the bone structure of the jaw looks very good, much like many of the wolf skulls i have seen. but the skin doesn't seem to go up to the edges of the bones, so it would have the majority of it's jawbone exposed to the air...doesn't seem real even for a fantasy creature.
also i think you could make the lip/skin outline on the lower jaw more evident, as well as make the shape of the neck cross section more believable.
i think the eye could be slanted a little more downwards but its hard to tell from this angle. also the shape of the head could be less round...but this one could go either way if you want to be designing a new fantasy creature.

OK I added a few more details on the modeling part, now that I think its done, its time to move on to Zbrush painting displacements. First off Im gunna Export this model to OBJ and you can find these plugins at http://www.cadalyst.net/extras/plugins/Import.html
This plugin has a bug though, IE: when you assign UVmaps and export that model along with your custom uvmapping to OBJ, then import it back into back into max, you will notice all your UVMaps are F*&*ked, thats the only bug so far.
Ill be back with zBush maps.

Yeah there is.. Check out their website - Pixologic (http://www.pixologic.com) and see some of the features that ZBrush 2.0 has. That program is capable of unbelievable details using the high res normal maps.
But read up on it a little...I find it to be extremely impressive!
:)
MDb101: Very nice model. Only thing I can think that it needs is all the wrinkles/blemishes and what not. =]

Cool :) Only crit atm is that I think the jaws are protruding from the lips a bit too much.
