well this is an odd one, but I'm going back home for about a week, and I want to get a tattoo done. Not too big, something that will cover a portion of the shoulder, maybe half, you know, discreet.
I'm really going towards the tribal designs, if anyone has any ideas, I can't seem to find the perfect thing. I'm thinking of printing a few of em and taking them to the parlor to tell the guy what I want.

lol it's just something small on the shoulder man, it's not like it'll be somewhere where everyone can see it.

I have to agree with Downup, dont do it
Have you tried the non-permainent ones?
I would at least get the one you want done in non-perm first and see if you still like it after a week or so.
Theres a quote of Andy Warhol (that I cant remember), but the basic jist of it was that people get tattoos to be "different and special". The only problem is that there will come a point where so many people have tattoos, that its actually the people without tattoos that become the "different and special" ones.
IMHO, That day is here already.
Be a rebel!
Be different!
Dont have a tattoo :)
That dragon in the top left should be on the upper arm I think.
If you really want a tattoo, get one. Its your choice ultimately. It will be painful tho.
There are some ppl who like getting tattoos, I think some of 'em like the pain which comes with it too... 1 or 2 tattoos are alright imo, but don't go overboard.
I'm thinking of getting a tattoo too. On the back of my head. And one of the Union Jack & a dragon on my arm.
A friend of mine got a pretty big tatoo on his back wich said : Johan (heart) Sarah... It was his girlfriend at the time.. unfortunatly she broke up a month later. He still hasn't removed it I think... Don't think it's the winning trick if you get a girl who's name is something else then Sarah to have a tatoo like that... My point is ofcourse that you might change your mind when it's too late.... That's up to you, but give it alot of thought first

hehe, well thanks for the all the input I appreciate it. But it's not a whim or anything, I've been thinking about it for over a year. I won't go overboard of course, it's will be not too big, with a t-shirt it won't show, just on upper shoulder. A few people in my family have had them for years, they haven't regretted em so far, the keyword is tasteful and discreet :D
You could always get a pair of breasts tattooed on your back... hah
Getting one's gf's name as a tattoo is a bad idea, so I was told. Or something like that.
Daniel : well, if you thought about it that long and you still think you wan't to do it, then go ahead :) Post a pic of it when it's done :D
MDX : Yeah... so I told him.. he obviously didn't listen :p now he has him self to blame

...off-topic thought:I don't like tattoos, its something primitive and unnatural, why a man in 2004 should tattoo himself?I think human body is perfect the way it is,without piercings and tattoos....
in topic idea:you are a free man so if you like it and if you want it....just do it!

now, put a tattoo with the name of a girl, girlfriend or wife... this is really a BIG mistake... any shrewd person wouldn't do it...

hehe Profane I kinda see your point, I do not like the tattoos that cover too much skin or have too much color myself. I would not put it anywhere that would ward off potential employers. As for it being primitive, maybe that's why I like it, I've always had an interest in so called 'primitive tribes' and cultures, in some ways I find em more civilised than we are.
Rodrigo, you have some good ones there, I like the 2 dragons, I saved em for potential ideas. I'm going wednesday night, have an appointment an all, very professional place. ;)

...yes...sometimes primitives are more civilized than nowadays people of the 'free civil countries'...but my point was:
your 'essence' of human being shouldnot be related to the things you decide to put outside yourself,a tattoo wud just work in this way....it wud be a simple label on your body, even if it is discreet ,some people will notice it ,or perhaps you'd like the idea to be noticed by your tattoo(something wich by no means belong to your body,in fact when you do a tattoo your body reacts in as many ways as possibile to 'defeat' the tattoo...your body could bleed become red in some areas...all signs of something your body doesn't want/deserve)
I should stop reading asian books....
anyway :it's obviously up to you!
ps:my english is a crap!...

Wow profane, I'd hate to have you as my dad, you don't like tattoo's and you got philosophy and biology to back you up, lol.
My dad didn't say anything except "did it hurt?" and "good" :)
I got a tattoo on the palm of my hand on a whim. About 4 years ago I was drunk with a bunch of buddies and they all wanted tattoo's, oddly enough, a tattoo parlor opened up right across the street from us, so in our drunken stupor we called them up and made appointments for tattoos. While on the phone a couple of them decided they didn't want any tattoos, so it ended up just being me and my room mate. So we went in without any idea what we wanted (a few days later, no longer drunk). My friend went first and got one on his shoulder, I thought the shoulder thing was way over done, same with the arms and back and legs... so I wanted to get mine on the palm of my hand, sure I couldn't do anything with it for about a week, but I was left with something that I felt happy with, and hardly anyone had (except real die hards for tattoos).
So the moral of my story is, if you want it, get it. If you don't, hey, it's still all good :)
oh ya, I got a stylized eye of horus, its sweet :)

hahaha :p
well I got it done yesterday, it's a tribal dragon. I'm back in montreal now, unfortunately I don't have a digital camera so it's kinda hard to show it it. It wasn't as painful as I would of imagined. I probably will get another done eventually, saw some really cool tribal panther designs. :D
Heh, I know someone who has his username tattooed on one of his arms...
