Hi! this is my new project... I had a hard time with the ref pictures but managed to make a spline cage (from witch i will make blueprints in some days... )
This is the modeling so far, i'm now working on the hood...
Thsi model will be intented to be a high res model with all interior components and animated doors, etc....
I'm using Maya 4.5 and yes each part is modelled individually...
I wish to be able to popst some updates soon..

Looks great. I cant wait to see more on this one! also, judging by the spline, the car must be pretty nice. You got any pics of the real thing?

hey, real nice car, can't say much about the 3d model yet though, keep going. and by the way, this car doesn't have wheels, it's got 4 spheres instead (i think i saw it on a bbc world program)
It does have wheels.. They are just covered by the spheres.. When you sit in the car and want to drive, the car will rise about 10-15 cm and reveal the wheels a little.. Read that somewhere, don't really know if that's correct..

on the bbc program they actually showed the 3d model used in the film, and when they panned to look underneath the car, it had spheres, the commentator even made a special note about it. even, from the pics: u see the hexagon patterned part? that's the actual 'wheel' (sphere :D) and the hexagons are like the tire tread
also, supacharged, if you haven't changed ur cage by now, u might wanna model the whole car first, it'll save you plenty of editing later in places like the door seams, etc

wow, spheres? what if one wears out? Do you just have to buy a new car? how do they keep em in there? lol

Cool car and it looks likes you've got a good start there, keep it up.
BTW thanks for linking that great site where you got your reference pictures from :D.

supa, what i meant was, don't detach the doors yet, it'll be much easier to create the seams later
and about the wheels: i don't know how u would change the spheres, i guess the panels around the circular openings are removeable, or retractable or somit
this mite be a stupid question... but is the car on those pics real or is that a 3d or visualised model ?:???:

it's real :D:D
Hey SupaCharged, nice choice of a car, when i first saw it about 2 months ago (or a bit less) i fainted. it's really stunning and it's got some revolutionnary design to it too, just as well as hard to model lines hehe :D:D
So GL on the rest.
for now: i see nothing wrong at all with the modeling, but one little bump on the door, it's pretty hard to spot, so i'm just being a nitpicker :D:D:D
anyway man, awesome stuff, and good luck on the rest :) i can't wait to see this one finished...

i've also started a model of the RSQ, she's a b1tch to model without blueprints (guess that's where reference splines come in,) but on the other hand, i'm modelling my mazda without blueprints so what the heck, might as well try. maybe we'll compare our cages later, u started from the top, me, from the bottom :D, an see how they turned out
