ahh takes so long to render. next time must remember to keep polycount lower :p too many meshsmooth iterations..

for those of you that cant figure out what it is its a small robot with a claw on the bottom for gripping stuff... i learned parent/child hierarchies to do that one. the top was done before i tried parent/child and it shows- if you see the animation in the viewport. it isnt really detailed at the moment but i may texture it at some point in the future. also camera views were fun to do :) oh yea the top unfolds and spins like heli blades.. i guess it folds closed to be aerodynamic.. or something

only concept is a tiny sketch i put on paper yesterday :p rest is modelled from that

this is the first even slightly complicated animation i have attempted and i aim to learn so tell me what you think

i think codec is microsoft mpeg-4 v2 so use win media player.

omg i write too much.. ill just get something to eat and wait for the render to finish :o please comment! only 600kb!

It's nice. I like the concept.
You might want to consider a fem things though.
1. When unfolded, make the wings somehow aerodynamically shaped like propellor wings so it would me able to fly.
2. What counters the rotation of the blades. Like a helocopter?

Have fun!

I like your animation, right now I am working on a helicopter myself where the blades will spin. So I was wondering if you can tell me of any tutorials that may help with animations. I ask this because I am very new to 3ds max and I can use all the help I can get.

hey

nice idea man,

i think it should be a wider shot, so we can see more of the blades, its too tight at the minute.

also it seems as if the blades should be going round faster?

also, when the claw disengages it seems a bit slow, maybe if you had the blades spinning up to speed, pulling the claw and the pipe thing up a bit, then letting the claw go quickly with some bounce...?
