Now that this challenge is almost over... Okay this is REALLY nonsense! Just an idea...hey WARNER take this for your merchandising. :-) modeling 15 minutes, photoshop 5 minutes.

Well, here is my post. Again, cool contest idea.

It took all of the 35 minute limit to model, timed with a free computer timer called eggtimerplus! Texturing and rendering took longer, especially rendering. I kind of ran out of time on the bristles but I think they look alright the way they are.

Thanks! I like furry things also... I wanted to make something original. :)

Thanks Octacon, I spent about an hour working on some new bristles which I will post when when I get around to rendering. Not for the contest obviously, just to show.

yep folks, that's one hour to go...the forum clock is still wrong :)

I'll echo what orkron has said - judging this week is going to be hard work.

The next challenge will be posted in the morning at about 8 am GMT - you all get 8 hours break :)

Mainly because I've got to be up early (I have to meet a client at 6.15am) so I need to get some sleep now.

Good night all and well done

Here's my work, it's a tribute to Jimmy Maidens' boring3d work (http://www.boring3d.com/daily/03-18-03.jpg)... I call it "They're brushes, Reverend!"

I modeled the brush in 15-20 minutes and the "Reverend" (tooth) in about 15 more... But positioning all those brushes, texturing them, lighting and finaly rendering took a few more hours.

Hope it raises a few smiles on some faces.

I live about 2 minutes walk from the beach and can see it out my windows - maybe I'll head down there when it stops raining :)

We'll get the results posted later this afternoon all being well

Who's the winner, the result announced or not?

Andy_k-3DT
02-07-2004, 11:27 PM
This was a really hard competition to post with so many great entries, we spent a long time going through them before deciding on our winners. This week we've decided to give 2 CDs as prizes, one to the best "traditional" toothbrush and one for the best original design.

Many came close, Orkron your sheer volume of work was impressive and if there were runners up prizes your first brush would have got it as would one of Glahes and either CGStripe's or Drew Carey's superb entries all came very close.

Some people kind of missed the point, we asked for a model of a toothbrush and got a very close up, beautifully lit image of just the head - artistic yes, but it doesn't illustrate the whole product which in this kind of challenge is quite important. A few of the brushes were kind of unsuitable, not the comedy entries such as the wire brush or razor blades ones but "serious brushes" that probably wouldn't fit in anybody's mouth or reach their teeth :)

The concept brushes were great and judging was equally tight there with Dead Squirrel and Ultimate Ronnie both coming very close with their ideas for novelty brushes.

Once again thanks all for entering and well done to you all, let's hope this challenge continues to grow like this over the forthcoming weeks.

And now the bit you are all waiting for, the winners are

Traditional toothbrush -

Oindypond - the bristles in your brush were the deciding factor - they looked so natural

http://forums.3dtotal.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=208845

Concept toothbrush

Monkeyhead, from very early on in the challenge - all of the judges liked this one

http://forums.3dtotal.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=206843

If both of you can contact me with your details and which of the 3D Total texture CDs you would like we'll arrange shipping them.
