hello guys
i wonder whats the main difference between the ati 9800 Pro and the PRO?

i know the XT gives more MB's but im sure there is another thing.

umm fast clock speeds and more price and that's all I believe, maybe like 5-15% better then pro. I don't think that USD vrs Perfomance that it's worth it.

I have a XT and it works really well. Dunno about the Pro but I belive the performance should be good too.

Well,

There is an differents between XT and Pro. XT is an faster version of the Pro ( like these guys above said: higer clock en mem speed ) but thats not all, the XT has more effects intergrated.
but if you are willing to take a little risc you can OVERCLOCK and MOD a 9800 pro to a 9800 XT wich you well get the same preformance and quality

WORD OF WARNING!!!!!!

Be VERY careful with the XT. I have the xt and am very unsatisfied, i payed a lot and there was bearly difference. Things are still slow, viewport speed is still slugish, and its not like a care but games are also slow.

Perhaps I just baught a bad version. Maybe if I exchange it then it will be fine but I don't know whats normal and what it can take.

Vitor: I'll talk to you later, I want to run some tests on my XT. So if your running faster than me, then its time to talk to ATI.

Fusion : it might be the computer itself not the ati
if u have a low speed computeer with 9800XT , i dont expect the best the XT can do

what are your computer specs?

Fusion

no, everything is up to speed.

Radeon 9800XT
1 Gig Ram
2.4 GHz
Asus Motherboard -Intel 845PE Chipset

So everything is up there, yet it still runs slow. When I was in the store, I was debating whether to get the 9800 pro but I said, ah what the hell, newer is better, but it didn't turn out that way. Thats why I wished I got 9800 pro, its more reliable and its been on the morket for a while so the bugs are tested and fixed.

you should change it man , its not the XT that is bad , its YOUR XT that is bad:D

you can go to the place you bought it from and return it or at least change it

Fusion

your right........but maybe thats just the way it is. I had a few scenes in max that were really sluggish, then when I switched to the XT expecting change, it just stayed sluggish. Perhaps the card can't take it.........idk, but ill find out soon enough.

Fusion , you might be the only one having this problem

like Vitor said its alright with him , what are your computer specs Vitor ?

ThaBram

fusion : 9800 XT is not a render card so you won't get much improvement of other cards.

and the fact that your XT is slow COULD be a software problem, i had it once my memory and core speed were 150 mhz lower than it had to be !

so i download sum programs to boost up the speeds to the speeds it had to be and there the problem was solved :)

i also had this problem with my CPU ( amd ahtlon 1800 + ) normaly it runs @ 133 FSB but some how it was put on 100 FSB so that dramatecly slower. this problem you could just fix by putting the fsb up in your CMOS

I have a Pentium IV 3.0Ghz 800FSB with 1 GB ram.

Playing games i don't have any problems although in 3DsMax, it's slower when showing just wireframes then when showing shaded models.

your probably right, I don't think I have a problem with my ram, just my video card.

Fusion, you should update ALL your drivers as well, along with updating your bios. When I first got my computer it was buggy as hell. I just needed some updates. I don't have the ATI 9800XT, I got the one that ASUS makes along with and ASUS mb with the 875p chipset. I thought that it would work fine out of the box but not too well. Also with my configuration I can have a scene in maya with 200k poly's with the smallest amount of lag. Then I go to work and sit at my G4 which can barely handle 4k poly's... and the dual G5's don't do any better either (I don't think they have that good of video cards though.. that or they really do suck, haha).

So I'd really suggest taking yours in and getting it tested Fusion, there's no way you should be having those troubles with your setup...

P.S. sorry any mac fans out there, just personal opinion here based on my own experiences

Fusion

well ATI doesn't have any new drivers for the XT........yet anyway. and you say you can handle a lot in maya. and i think that mainly rely's on one thing........maya runs FAST. I cant personally say that but compared to max, maya's overall speed surpasses max's. Well ill have to exchange my card and hope for the best. Cross you fingers for me :dunno:

hmm, il lthink about it. I just wanna give ati trouble. Im going to bitch at them for giving me a bad prodict, even if thats the way it is :haha: .........which i seriously doubt.
