Well, if it was a Linux mousetrap I'd have more beleif in it...Cuz you know microsoft is gonna crash all the time...or the mice will
make a virus to make it not work right.

In my original concept the trap does not require any bait. You place it right at the mouse hole so whenever the mice comes out - SWOOOSH!!!
The sensors work in such a way that the moment the mouse goes under the blade - that's it.

Well done everyone!
It is quite amazing to see what some of you can do in such a short time and still produce photo-realistic stuff.
Respect!!

Here is my noob-like contribution.
There is a string running under the mousetrap, which is pulled when the mouse walks on the piece that rotates. The string removes the hook attached to the axe at the back and whack! The mouse is cut in half from head to tail!

I did not have enough time to finish the cheese! :D

Will do the textures later.

These challenges are a really good idea. Hope to join in for the next one!

This is my first contribution in modeling a mousetrap speed modeling. It's a gentle way to catch a mouse. I made this by using 3D Studio MAX 6. I took 30 min to complete the modeling, while texturing and rendering took about 45 min.

Saad M. Yasin

This is another mouse killer (trap). I think it needs a little more touches, but the 45 min where finished. I think it was wasting of time trying to replicate a real mouse trap.

modeled by 3D Studio MAX 6.
texturing and rendering took about 60 min.

andycg
07-07-2004, 07:06 AM
modelling time - 28 minutes

Maya 6.0

texturing time - about 10 minutes

rendering time - about 2 minutes

I changed a bit of the background color in photoshop as well. That took about 2 minutes after saving and all.

This mouse trap is designed to catch the mouse without splattering blood everywhere, however fun that may be. Of course, I didn't put any vent holes in it though, as I noticed after I posted the image, so the mouse would die as soon as the air ran out.
I saw a trap like this a long time ago, and haven't seen them since. We thought it was fun to catch the mice then feed them to my friends pets. Yes, I was a horrible kid, I know.

rendering time - about 2 minutes

The new trapmouse, do you like a "hotDOG"? in 4 minutes you will have a "hotMOUSE" with cheese :p with this microwave.
Made in 3DStudio Max5 in 45 minutes, and some hours to texturing and rendering. Good luck to all.

Creative, but how does it turn on? Do you manully turn it on or does it do it automatically?

Alright. I finally did get some spare time to whip something up. The actual modelling took about 25 minutes, and the rest took around a couple hours. I couldn't decide on what kind of textures I wanted. C&C's are welcome. It's fairly simple. The mouse enters using the ramp to get whatever bait you decide to put inside, then the door snaps shut because of the pressure sensors in the grate and seals the mouse inside. The incinerator then activated and you have blackened mouse.

Thanks.

Wow, a lot of nice models out there! To name a few (or maybe more than a few), Mirach, otacon, the_bully, travis_jinx, Diego, Honki, CHAINSAW, cyrrix, samuriah and hellkab I liked all of yours!

I attempted to model one in 45 min and came out short :(. I'll try it again tomorrow and see if I can't finish one.

Here's what I got done in 45min on my first try with the half modeled release lever.

Thanks hnbmilk, the microwaves have a security system, when you turn the time wheel and the door is open, the microwave don't start warming, but, when the door is closed it start cooking the mouse automaticaly.

I 've already posted in this weeks challenge, but two days ago I remembered a fairy tale that I read when I was young. There was a man with a flute who travelled to a rat-infested village and rescued the villagers. He hypnotised the rats by playing his flute and he led all of them to a river where they fell and drown. But the villagers wouldn't award the man so he did the same thing with their children.

So, I modelled a magical flute in a modern version. (ready for the stores).

I know that it's not exactly a mousetrap but if you think it with a LOT of imagination and from the tale's perspective, then it is.
Anyway, since no one thought of it, here it is.

modelling time for the whole scene: 35 min (max6)
texturing : 3 hrs
rendering : 10 sec

Does anyone heard of the tale before? What do you think of my choice?

Hi everybody! This is my seconde mouse trap.

It's a mecanical version of my laser trap. When the mouse step on to the middle plate the weight of the mouse will press it down causing the walls to rise. The mouse i traped.

I dont know if this is a design that exists today. And i dont know if it acualy work. But if the materials are right and its well calibrated i think it would do the trick.

modeling: 43 mins --- 3ds Max 4
texturing/lighting: 50 mins

My entry for this great contest!

Done in 3Ds Max 5.0 and CorelDRAW 9.0 and a bit Photoshop 7.0 touching up. Rendered in Default Scanline Renderer. For reflections is a HDRI map used.

Modelling : full 45 minutes
Texturing : about 80 minutes
Lighting : about 20 minutes
Rendering : about 20 minutes

I post two images; one 'beauty' render with textures, and a clean model render. I hope you'll enjoy!

"Its you know for the kids"

the concept is the mouse runs in to the box
for the cheese and gets stuck in the glue.Kids
come over and and crank the handle which makes the cat dance and plays music at the same time
the mouse is crushed by a falling ceiling.Tryed to give a old look kind of as a antique

It's called "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" -by Robert Browning.

It's a good illustration of how "children's" stories have evolved over time! The "new" version of this is very tame and doesn't give children nightmares! lol

If this was a flute-musical instrament moddelling contest, I would vote you to be the winner definatley! I love the detail you added with

the box, the decals and the translucent plastic...VERY well done.

Dont listen to these guys, Andy. Take your time, and jus get to it when u are able.

We're all anxious to know who will win, but we can wait. If Andy says it will be another day, then it will be another day. if, then, that day comes and he says it'll be another day. then, again, it will be another day. if the process repeats, then we scowl at him. :grr:

if u think huge people shouting "ni!" at you is bad.. u shoudl try a large group of people scowling directly at you at the same time. very eerie.. very.. .... what was i talking about again?

cheers guys and sorry for the delay in getting the results posted - I've had a hectic few days but at long last I've managed to find an hour or two to go through all of the entries and make a few comments.

Once again, we've had a great response and everyone seems to have really enjoyed themselves. The creativity shown in trapping/disposing of our four legged friends has been great and for this reason, once again we are going to give two CDs away, one for a traditional trap and one for a comic/concept trap.

The standard of the modelling has again been exceptional so picking what in our opinion is the best has been incredibly difficult. We'll give a few "special mentions" first, these are models that were almost winners but that we felt were just not quite as good as the one we have chosen as the winner. Drew Carey, the trap looks great and was certainly humane. As far as traditional traps go, Oindypond, Diego, the_bully, travis jinx, chainsaw, Qubical, samuriah, hellkab, monkeyhead (for the simple box trap), ghosts, laserjock, Otacon (very nearly my favourite) all entered terrific models which deserve recognition.

It was close but the winner in this category is Aedilhum

http://forums.3dtotal.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=212145

we felt his trap conveyed perfectly the balance between the delicacy required to trap a mouse but the strength and power needed to kill the victim - a really great model and although not part of the judging the render you submitted was superb - well done.

Now on to the comic/concept traps, so many varied entries, hammers, lasers, liquidisers, cutting saws, fans, guillotines, guns, exposives, catapults they were all superb and showed just how vicious and twisted some of you are :)

The special mentions in this category are numerous as well and all of you came within a mouses whisker of winning :) I loved the simplicty of woot's entry, the rather bitter wedding mouse trap of Mr Glass, the fun factor of pixeljunkynz, the brute force of Problemss, the ....well I'm not quite sure but it made me laugh anyway of cutcopypaste's superb efort, the sheer brutality of Jarred's trap, Honki's rather drastic solution which showed terrific attention to detail and was almost the winner and the clever Agatha Christie link by aliased.

Once again, choosing just one was incredibly difficult but it has to go to tattarn for his Mr Cheese

http://forums.3dtotal.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=210061

such a simple model but oh so destructive - brilliant and funny so well done to you.

Thanks everyone for entering and if the winners can drop me a private message with your full postal details and which CD you would like we'll get them in the post to you.

If I've not mentioned your entry that doesn't mean it wasn't good enough - almost all of them were excellent, it's just that there were some superb entries and hopefully I've covered all of those.

I must give Orkron a special thanks for pointing out to various people the rules etc and saving me a lot of typing - it's nice to see you are having so much fun around here and it's also great to see your modelling skills developing at the same time.
