14-07-2004, 02:57 PM
if thats the crappiest car ever, can i see the good version? LMAO looks great to me.... nice and clean.... :D
14-07-2004, 03:43 PM
Crappiest car, not model :)
14-07-2004, 07:12 PM
Im guessing you got that from Top Gear? The Nissan Sunny was infact voted the worst car ever :P
14-07-2004, 08:34 PM
From Forbes... here is the article:
14-07-2004, 08:51 PM
Wicked! My mates mum used to drive one of those back in the day. It wasn't far off that colour either.
Good job so far :)
14-07-2004, 11:51 PM
the modelling is great - its kinda got a saxo look - well the saxo has its looks - if u know what i mean?
its crap like mah saxo
15-07-2004, 01:27 AM
Great work so far. I always remember Yugo as the car Detective Joe Friday had in the Dragnet movie. That article was hilarious, BTW.
Is that brazil you're using to render?
Stylish as a refrigerator:D
Very similar to the Fiat 147 made in Brazil from 77 into the 80s.
Modeling as usual topnotch.
15-07-2004, 03:49 AM
wow, that is a very clean model. Are you using splines?
15-07-2004, 03:51 AM
Yep.. render is Brazil.
I am not using splines (hate'em). All done with polys.
Here are wires (a bit old):
15-07-2004, 04:08 AM
Even if it's the crappiest car ever, your model makes it look pretty good. :D
I'd say quite clean modeling, even nice edgeloops. Although lots of vertical edges on the doors look a bit clutered, saving them while keeping the shape looking undeformed might be hard. :dunno:
Anyways, god job!
15-07-2004, 04:14 AM
I decided not to clean that area since it's a highpoly model. I guess I can still do it at the end.
15-07-2004, 05:51 AM
15-07-2004, 09:42 AM
thats awesome !
15-07-2004, 12:01 PM
15-07-2004, 02:59 PM
Wether you clean it or not, it's just a matter of few polys. Just as you said, not much to worry about when going for high poly.
Hey, good to see an update! Love the tire, looks very nicely modeled. Though the holes on the rim... hmmm... Is it just me or the holes don't have chamfered edges? Might be a good idea to make a slight inward extrude with a chamferred edge for catching the highlights. If you're not concerned about increasing your poly count by some 2000 polys for the sake of photorealism. ;)
Waiting for more of your updates.
Jawahr & Mystikos --> [ironic mode] Those are very usefull and 'in depth' replies, guys. [/ironic mode]
15-07-2004, 04:50 PM
You are right... I've done the tires in a hurry and did a quick render at the end. I still need to fix a few things. The tire thred is wierd as well... Might change that as well.
Thanks for all the kind comments.
19-07-2004, 12:45 AM
Beautiful work... crappiest car ever? not the worst model, thats for sure ;)
19-07-2004, 01:00 AM
very clean modeling.
Are you going to do the interior? it would be nice..
23-07-2004, 03:48 PM
Yeah... I am just about to start with the interior.
25-07-2004, 01:57 AM
While I wait for interior photos I did some tinkering with textures.
25-07-2004, 02:27 AM
Awesome, simply awesome! Great, clean modelling, and the texture of the tire is great!
25-07-2004, 04:21 AM
dude that's crap.
if you add some crappy textures and some crappy lighting and put it in a crappy scene, i believe the correct word will be: crap..
jk its a sweet ass model, and i commend you to making more "crappy" cars
25-07-2004, 04:55 PM
Did a very quick environment...
25-07-2004, 05:37 PM
OMG! This is great! Awesome work. The wheel is beautiful. Great job...
26-07-2004, 08:23 AM
rite. u gotta teach me to paint textures ;)
26-07-2004, 12:55 PM
I used real life photos but altered a lot in photoshop :)
05-08-2004, 01:41 AM
Dirty windows aren't so noticable on that pic so here is another render... I still need to tweak some stuff like dirt buildup where wiper stops, etc.
05-08-2004, 01:44 AM
I'm really liking the direction your taking this car in. . . .the textures, the model, the idea, keep going dude. . . . i'd love to see more updates! :)
05-08-2004, 02:00 AM
And quick environment test:
05-08-2004, 05:23 AM
That's one of the best car models I've seen in a while. Seriously :) . And the enviroment is almost photorealistic. Nice work.
wow, the texture of the car is just awsome! and everything else!
05-08-2004, 06:18 AM
that easily makes front page at 3dtotal..thats awome man!;)
05-08-2004, 12:14 PM
How was this modeled splines or poly anyways great work.
05-08-2004, 01:38 PM
Wow... never thought people will actually like this... hehe. It was all done with poly modeling.
I will write a "making of this scene" when I am done and explained a few methods I use... Like car paint is Blend material... 1st material car paint, second material rust and mask map for where the rust should appear. I unwrapped the car so when I am done I will release the template so everyone can paint their own car and I will render it for them.
Here is a template:
05-08-2004, 01:45 PM
Very nice did u learn online if so what tut? :D
05-08-2004, 05:55 PM
Yep online... here at 3dtotal.com you will find Fiat 500 tutorial.
05-08-2004, 11:30 PM
I'm glad my tutorial has helped you to produce something of such high quality. Excellent work on the textures, I never really got the hang of texturing, I wish I could do it like you. It's always good to see cars that are not brand new like what most people render.
Keep up the good work.
06-08-2004, 12:26 AM
Looks very good, I like the tires, very detailed. Nice textures too.
07-08-2004, 01:30 AM
I agree, that's teh most unappealing car ever !! hahah but your work is awesome !!!
you are turning a piece of crap into a piece of art !!
very nice texturin` did use texporter and photoshop then?
anyway wait for updates=)
08-08-2004, 04:54 AM
Really supernice!! I especially like the dirty tire :D
One of the best car models and best texture I've seen! And you gotta love those clay renders! :)
08-08-2004, 11:54 AM
Nice work! Modeling and texturing looks great!
09-08-2004, 03:53 AM
Update... I had to do another low poly car for a game mod but that is almost done now so I can get back to this baby. Here is another angle.
Looking great man. Are you just using alpha channels for the windows? Including the back windshield which has the heat grill thing?
09-08-2004, 06:47 AM
Heh, your textured and rendered model reminds me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game screenshot. I guess its because of weathered texture and European style car. Awesome job !!!
09-08-2004, 07:05 AM
Eric_Cartman, This is looking really REALLY COOL!, could you plz write a mini tutorial on the way you have done the texturing, it looks awsome! I read what you posted in page 3 but could you plz go into a little more detail? Maybe even screen grabs and stuff like that? I am hoping to make the some renders of the mustang im working on with the "old rusted look" too. Cheers!
09-08-2004, 12:10 PM
wow indeed!!! a tutorial for this would be best! :)
09-08-2004, 01:22 PM
Sure guys... I will do a "Making of..." article when I am done and will explain all techniques. Basicly it is pretty straight forward.
I am using Blend material for car paint and windows. Will go into details in the article.
11-08-2004, 08:10 AM
That´s the most realistic car I´ve seen in here yet, fantastic work!!! :D
13-08-2004, 05:09 AM
Did some work...
great work.. almost perfict
looking forward to see the finished car and article :)
22-08-2004, 06:36 PM
Did some texture tweaking to the body and made the bottom.
I think its time to start doing the interior.
22-08-2004, 08:20 PM
Looks minted, love the texturing, esp the rust over the wheels. Well done :D
22-08-2004, 08:25 PM
Eric_Cartman SUPER testure. Can wait for that tut.Thats just so cool.Link me man link me to where you learn it ,thanks:cool:Did you use the skinney thing.I may have to work on that hook me up dude...thanks
23-08-2004, 03:58 AM
OMG this is awesome man! I like the 'wash me please' on the window. The texturing is wonderful... I'm looking forward to see that tutorial.
23-08-2004, 10:20 AM
This car looks like crap. Maybe you should send it to the body and paint shop. lol. Great work. Please be as explicit as possible when you do the walkthrough.
23-08-2004, 06:39 PM
Eric Hi .Are you going to set me up? If not can you link me to your site where you learn textureing. Thanks man.:)
23-08-2004, 08:17 PM
I will start writing "The Making of..." article today... and post it on my webpage. Will let you guys know when I will post part 1.
23-08-2004, 09:43 PM

24-08-2004, 10:28 PM
wooow wery good and clean
24-08-2004, 11:01 PM
awesome modeling and texturing, have you seen the modified Yugo's, the ones that are turned into something else, like a BIC lighter, saw some pics years ago, where the car was up on its rear, with the top hood area that fliped to the side making a lighter. hehe
anyways this should turn out to be real cool, wish I could figure out this texturing stuff. too busy trying to make my cars look super shinny. :)
25-08-2004, 01:02 AM
I remember doing a car in Rhino following your tutorial :)
Anyway, I bet you mean this Yugo Art:
Enjoy! Too funny! lol
25-08-2004, 01:03 AM
yep thats it, someone shown me that years ago, funniest thing Ive seen.. someone needs to do the same with the pinto.. lol
funny thing is, just after I wrote that tutorial, seems like I needed to write a new one, cause now I have mixed all the tools up, not much into lofting things these days. altho you can get some slick flowing shapes out of it. I'll be using this on a update for my Garra/Zion project..
I surely need to write a new tutorial, but I can't give out all my secrets right.. hehe lofting is a nice place to start.. people that are good at polygons usually pick it up quickly.
ok I'm done writing.. lol
01-09-2004, 08:36 PM
Still tweaking the textures and experimenting with environment.
01-09-2004, 08:41 PM
ow those look really great, only 1 comments, in teh first pic it looks like the wall is huge and the car is very small, maybe it is just me
01-09-2004, 08:43 PM
are u going to make in interior? 'cause i can see the back right spring inside the car..;)
01-09-2004, 08:45 PM
wow... 5 stars... :)
This looks awsome.. please make an interior.. PLEASE
its realy looks awsome. great job!
01-09-2004, 09:05 PM
crappy awesome :D ,amazing work with the textures :)
cant wait for updates...
02-09-2004, 12:08 AM
Awesome work on the textures man... Exellent.
Did you unwrap it? If so i want to the texture map.
02-09-2004, 02:31 AM
Yes I use UVW Unwrap. I am writing an article/tutorial so all secrets will be revealed soon :)
02-09-2004, 06:49 AM
Very Cool - im really looking forward to seeing this tutorial that u are writing!
03-09-2004, 11:55 PM
04-09-2004, 12:07 AM
thats really great, looks pretty realistic. Did you create all the textures.. even the background?
hmm.. something disturbes me on all of the pics.. dont know what tho :(
maybe the scene is too bad, cant tell :(
keep up the good work :)
04-09-2004, 01:33 AM
i have to say i am impressed  , very realistic
04-09-2004, 03:04 AM
Some are photos and some are handpainted.
06-09-2004, 12:55 AM
Almost done with interior... Sill need to do the doors and the rear end.
06-09-2004, 05:46 AM
This is really good Eric...your attention to detail is great.
It`s nice to see something different than the usual shiny car:)
I`ve noticed that more than once you place McDonalds bags in your work.....any reason?
The -wash me- on the window is classic:)....nice touch:)
2 things to point out.
1. The seats should be bigger or taller.
2. The lower part of the car (especially the tires) in the renders with the environment looks too bright and makes the car seem less realistic I think. Try adding a little more light over the car to make the lower part darker. Looks better in the two renders above. This is just a suggestion.
06-09-2004, 03:21 PM
Gj mate keep it up
06-09-2004, 03:59 PM
Thanks for the C&C guys.
Seats proportions are ok - from blueprints :)
I agree about the shadows.
McDonalnds bag is used from my London Street scene and I just thought it woud look good in the car and I personaly think it does. It was a bit out of place in the London scene :)
07-09-2004, 03:35 AM
i think the mcD's back looks good, but it looks a little out of proportion to the rest of the car..
07-09-2004, 07:39 AM
Awesome work, but how do you unwrap a texture to use it in PS?
07-09-2004, 02:29 PM
This is unwrap and then I used texporter plugin.
07-09-2004, 08:48 PM
Really great work! I have a question for you, How have made the little particles that appear on the road and also the clumps of grass coming out here and there? It would be really handy to know because i am trying to make a simular enviroment for my mustang thread (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21283&perpage=15&pagenumber=2) and its the little details like that which can really make a scene look good. also im curious what lighting you are using and also ur renderer and its settings.
Anyway Really nice work, keep it up! :)
08-09-2004, 12:13 AM
Stones are really easy... u create one stone. Select SCATER and pick ground plane as distribution object... then just type in the parameters (how many objects u want, procentage of scale in all 3 axis) and thats it.
Grass... I modeled single straw (3 polys) and used a bend modifier. I did this 3 times to get 3 different straws. I put them together and attached them all into one object. Then you just copy it and scale it and thats it.
13-09-2004, 12:32 AM
Quick update... still fixing stuff.
13-09-2004, 12:57 AM
Don't you mean still wrecking stuff. I can honestly say this thing just keeps getting worse and worse. lol. Really great work. The winter scene is just awesome. Kewl concept. Don't think I've ever seen that done before. Could be some footprints going to or from the car.
13-09-2004, 01:28 AM
Thanks but that isn't a winter scene. It's a clay render. It would have to be one hell of a blizard to stick the snow to the walls :)
13-09-2004, 01:31 AM
amazing amazing work man...keep going...lookin totally amazing:)
not sure if its the crappiest, but surely one of the best cg cars i have seen..
looks fantastic, dont forget make some dirt on the headlight
13-09-2004, 01:52 AM
This is such fu****** great!
But I don't like the ground Tex (or is it only the bump) and the light seems also a bit odd.
13-09-2004, 04:09 AM
Maybe make one wheel have no hubcap....so it looks like a all black wheel, unless on this car they did not have hubcaps?
Great work on everything else.. I wish I could do half that.
13-09-2004, 12:04 PM
You are right. I alredy have it modeled, just need to texture it :)
15-09-2004, 08:47 PM
360 spin movie test.
16-09-2004, 03:59 AM
I was wondering if you would think about maybe doing a different color door, like it looks like they bought one at a junk yard.
16-09-2004, 05:06 PM
I've been following this thread closly, all I can say is great work, the only thing I've seen that I don't like is the griffiti behinde the car, tbh it looks like you've drawen it on a piece of paper using feltips and then scanned it in? Doesn't look like it was sprayed onto the walls.
lovly car tho, amazing work!
17-09-2004, 01:50 AM
Floor and wall textures are real life photos.
07-10-2004, 11:11 PM
I got my first baby 15 days ago so working on this project was a bit hard :)
Being a daddy is cool.
Anyway, here is something for my car. Still WIP.
08-10-2004, 03:27 AM
bro ive no words 2 say, awsome??? nah... its xtremely awsome bro:D :D luv d detail bro... i like it:D
08-10-2004, 03:47 AM
congrats on the baby, a new artist into the world;)
i like the hitch its really good, like the car, is it to tow around your baby ;)
10-10-2004, 03:45 AM
11-10-2004, 02:41 AM
Wow!!! Really nice work there cartman!!!
Guess you've created the crappiest car known to 3d :P although the model roxx!!!
really nice work...
PS. Congrats to the baby!!!
Holy f****** **** cartman! wtf! is that 3d? show me a wire or I won't believe it :p really awesome dude... great work!
12-10-2004, 03:53 AM
Oh memories...used to be tons of these back in the day, where I'm from at least ( Croatia ).
Oh and btw..wow? Very nice render, model, texturing.
BTW...NOT the crappiest car ever...this is!
You cant belive the size of that thing. I think it was made for clown families....erm...come to think of it..my dad drove that when he was young :D
14-11-2004, 11:46 PM
I finaly loaded the scene again and did some more work.
- added leaves
- finished trailer
I guess I will fix some things (trailer, environment) when I find some time again.
Let me know what you think.
15-11-2004, 10:34 PM
Forgot this one.. did auto contrast and auto levels in Photoshop.
got no comments.. everything has already been said,,, perfect..
maybe a new scene just for fun? :)
25-11-2004, 08:23 AM
Love it, fantastic work.
25-11-2004, 02:38 PM
very nice:) the model is very clean. i like how you did the tires. seems like most people are kind of sloppy when it comes to them, but those looks great:) good job
06-01-2005, 12:54 AM
Wow... very impressive model... would you make tut on modeling, mapping, lightning and texturing... :D... Plz
06-01-2005, 03:20 AM
I am writing it right now.
06-01-2005, 03:41 AM
Really? Ill be looking at the mapping/ texturing portion :)
06-01-2005, 04:08 AM
The only thing (and it's a tiny one at that) I can see 'wrong' is the number plate looks a bit odd. It doesn't seem to fit in, it looks too contrasting.
Absolutely brilliant :D
06-01-2005, 12:12 PM
Man thats one sick car just a few questions where can i see the making of tutorial?. And ve seen that you used 3dsmax for this project on your hompage ( thats bye the way an awsome hompage you have there too easy and all.) well the question was what modelling technique did you use and if you used poly plane extrusion technique how did you doo too make soo smooth yet sharp edges? could need some help on this anyways awsome car and keep up the top notch work mate.
06-01-2005, 03:28 PM
Loving it...such a pretty car, wish i had one. :)
Realistic is the right word for this...thumbs up
........sorry...malo kasnim, ali....svaka čast.... 5*
Kak nisam ovo prije videl!?Kud si bas YUGO izabral?Kaj je drugo na redu: peglica ili ficek???
My grandpa drives a Yugo, and it was the best car ever for him!!!And I have been driven in a quite a few of them! And my grandpa never had a problem with it...well, except one small fire in the engine compartment, but you can't have it all...
