Crappiest car, not model :)

Good job so far :)

Great work so far. I always remember Yugo as the car Detective Joe Friday had in the Dragnet movie. That article was hilarious, BTW.

Is that brazil you're using to render?

3Dan
15-07-2004, 03:45 AM
Stylish as a refrigerator:D
Very similar to the Fiat 147 made in Brazil from 77 into the 80s.
Modeling as usual topnotch.

hnbmilk
15-07-2004, 03:49 AM
wow, that is a very clean model. Are you using splines?

Eric_Cartman
15-07-2004, 03:51 AM
Yep.. render is Brazil.

I am not using splines (hate'em). All done with polys.

Here are wires (a bit old):

15-07-2004, 04:08 AM
Even if it's the crappiest car ever, your model makes it look pretty good. :D

I'd say quite clean modeling, even nice edgeloops. Although lots of vertical edges on the doors look a bit clutered, saving them while keeping the shape looking undeformed might be hard. :dunno:

Anyways, god job!

Eric_Cartman
15-07-2004, 04:14 AM
I decided not to clean that area since it's a highpoly model. I guess I can still do it at the end.

15-07-2004, 02:59 PM
Wether you clean it or not, it's just a matter of few polys. Just as you said, not much to worry about when going for high poly.

Hey, good to see an update! Love the tire, looks very nicely modeled. Though the holes on the rim... hmmm... Is it just me or the holes don't have chamfered edges? Might be a good idea to make a slight inward extrude with a chamferred edge for catching the highlights. If you're not concerned about increasing your poly count by some 2000 polys for the sake of photorealism. ;)

Waiting for more of your updates.

Jawahr & Mystikos --> [ironic mode] Those are very usefull and 'in depth' replies, guys. [/ironic mode]

Insect,

You are right... I've done the tires in a hurry and did a quick render at the end. I still need to fix a few things. The tire thred is wierd as well... Might change that as well.

Thanks for all the kind comments.

if you add some crappy textures and some crappy lighting and put it in a crappy scene, i believe the correct word will be: crap..

How was this modeled splines or poly anyways great work.

Eric_Cartman
05-08-2004, 01:38 PM
Wow... never thought people will actually like this... hehe. It was all done with poly modeling.

I will write a "making of this scene" when I am done and explained a few methods I use... Like car paint is Blend material... 1st material car paint, second material rust and mask map for where the rust should appear. I unwrapped the car so when I am done I will release the template so everyone can paint their own car and I will render it for them.

Here is a template:

I'm glad my tutorial has helped you to produce something of such high quality. Excellent work on the textures, I never really got the hang of texturing, I wish I could do it like you. It's always good to see cars that are not brand new like what most people render.
Keep up the good work.

Eric_Cartman, This is looking really REALLY COOL!, could you plz write a mini tutorial on the way you have done the texturing, it looks awsome! I read what you posted in page 3 but could you plz go into a little more detail? Maybe even screen grabs and stuff like that? I am hoping to make the some renders of the mustang im working on with the "old rusted look" too. Cheers!

awesome modeling and texturing, have you seen the modified Yugo's, the ones that are turned into something else, like a BIC lighter, saw some pics years ago, where the car was up on its rear, with the top hood area that fliped to the side making a lighter. hehe

anyways this should turn out to be real cool, wish I could figure out this texturing stuff. too busy trying to make my cars look super shinny. :)

Eric_Cartman
25-08-2004, 01:02 AM
Hey Wyatt,

I remember doing a car in Rhino following your tutorial :)

Anyway, I bet you mean this Yugo Art:

Enjoy! Too funny! lol

Wyatt
25-08-2004, 01:03 AM
yep thats it, someone shown me that years ago, funniest thing Ive seen.. someone needs to do the same with the pinto.. lol

funny thing is, just after I wrote that tutorial, seems like I needed to write a new one, cause now I have mixed all the tools up, not much into lofting things these days. altho you can get some slick flowing shapes out of it. I'll be using this on a update for my Garra/Zion project..

I surely need to write a new tutorial, but I can't give out all my secrets right.. hehe lofting is a nice place to start.. people that are good at polygons usually pick it up quickly.

ok I'm done writing.. lol

Looks great!

2 things to point out.

1. The seats should be bigger or taller.
2. The lower part of the car (especially the tires) in the renders with the environment looks too bright and makes the car seem less realistic I think. Try adding a little more light over the car to make the lower part darker. Looks better in the two renders above. This is just a suggestion.

Thanks for the C&C guys.

Seats proportions are ok - from blueprints :)

I agree about the shadows.

McDonalnds bag is used from my London Street scene and I just thought it woud look good in the car and I personaly think it does. It was a bit out of place in the London scene :)

Hi Eric_Cartman,
Really great work! I have a question for you, How have made the little particles that appear on the road and also the clumps of grass coming out here and there? It would be really handy to know because i am trying to make a simular enviroment for my mustang thread (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21283&perpage=15&pagenumber=2) and its the little details like that which can really make a scene look good. also im curious what lighting you are using and also ur renderer and its settings.
Anyway Really nice work, keep it up! :)

Eric_Cartman
08-09-2004, 12:13 AM
Stones are really easy... u create one stone. Select SCATER and pick ground plane as distribution object... then just type in the parameters (how many objects u want, procentage of scale in all 3 axis) and thats it.

Grass... I modeled single straw (3 polys) and used a bend modifier. I did this 3 times to get 3 different straws. I put them together and attached them all into one object. Then you just copy it and scale it and thats it.

Eric_Cartman

Man thats one sick car just a few questions where can i see the making of tutorial?. And ve seen that you used 3dsmax for this project on your hompage ( thats bye the way an awsome hompage you have there too easy and all.) well the question was what modelling technique did you use and if you used poly plane extrusion technique how did you doo too make soo smooth yet sharp edges? could need some help on this anyways awsome car and keep up the top notch work mate.

Kak nisam ovo prije videl!?Kud si bas YUGO izabral?Kaj je drugo na redu: peglica ili ficek???

My grandpa drives a Yugo, and it was the best car ever for him!!!And I have been driven in a quite a few of them! And my grandpa never had a problem with it...well, except one small fire in the engine compartment, but you can't have it all...
