Sometimes when you want to extrude something, the extrude shoots straight out of the object and sometimes it goes in wacky directions. How do I make it so the extrude goes straight out from the object?

the extrude modifier has options in which direction you wish to extrude: x, y, or z.

I mainly use editable meshes, and press the extrude button in edit geometry roll out. However I can't seem to find the x, y, z in either the face extrude modifier or the roll out.

if your mesh freaks out on a polygon face extrude..you have to go to the stack(?) where you started with your base object..lets say a box...right click the top thing and say collapse all then try extruding again..it should go the right way

I always have this problem when making rims and when you go to extrude the spokes they need to be shot out according to their respective angles. Anyways the problem seems to have corrected itself, but yeah what you guys are saying seems to make sense.
