I am hoping someone can tell me how to solve t his problem.

I have a character rigged. It has wings. I want the skin in the wings to stretch between the bones.

As it is now one bone controls some of the verts and the next bone controls the rest. When I fold up the wing bones, then verts fold over each other like this:

This shows how the verts cross over each other. I'd like the string of verts to "rubber band" between the bones.

If I understood you right then you can use linked Xform(modifiers, animation,Linked Xform)

to achieve that effect.

Ok,

I don't think I can use the linked xform modifier.

I've tried the morph joint deformer (part of skin modifier) with only a little bit of luck. I tried adding more than one morph joint deformer and when I add the second one, the first one stops working. There must be a way to add more than one since every character has more than one joint. I just can't figure out how to do it.

I thought that If I could get each finger of the wing wired to the first finger in the wing, I could fold the whole thing up using only the first bone, then apply one joint deformer to the first finger's envelope. The problem with this is that when I try and wire the parameters of the other fingers in the wing to the first, they jump out of position. If I remember correctly this has something to do with needing to reset the transform of each bone before linking it into a rig.

I'm so fed up now. I have to take a break. Please help.
