(SPEED)PAINTING CHALLENGE nr2

In this challenge participants are to design "The most scary creature EVER".

The creature can be anything - from a huge bug to cratchenscetchingerit ( it is an infestation of four planets that circle around this red dwarf we saw yesterday on holograph TV ;) ). You can base on earth life forms, you can try to come up with something entirely new and original. Think about the most scary looks. Think about the things that are the last you want to meet in a dark alley...

Putting the character into a spooky environment, that accents the ... spookiness and scaryness (?) of the creature is ABSOLUTELLY RECOMMENDED, but not vital. It would be good, though. :)

Let your imagination flow, watch tons of horrors, be creative and original. And have fun!

Don't be affraid to post WIPs, but make it more complex so we can have something to evaluate and comment. And be serious about it, please dont' post 5 min's works or art. ;)

Personally I like the idea. I already began doing some preliminary sketches and will do the final piece soon.
So like the lad said, start getting those ideas rolling!! There's a texture cd to be won! :D ;)

I was just playing around with painter today.
So this is what I did... It's actually not a beast or a monster or something like this (although you can consider him as one), but I thought all of you will post really scary ugly creatures, so I did somebody to take care of them, so they don't eat us all up! :D ;)

Heh, here's a really good lookin' guy... ;) Nice one, cool colours... There's too much space above his head... I would also consider adding background here... Try to come pu with something less human-like maybe...

ok so before i start and hope to finish......i just want to clear something up. You say stray away from human like, so exactly what features can we keep? I can come up with some really scary things but they all relate back to human form to some degree, i guess that what im used to, so much for my imagination heh? :ugh: I just dont wont to do something and have it out of the boudaries of the contest :dunno: to me, i think that a human like character can be VERY scary, tear his skin, give him a dark complexion, have a few limbs torn apart, give him a enorm hight and you have the scariest living thing ever. . . . so am i clinging to a whole lot of nothing or is it still in the boarders of the contest? Not as if i'm going to do that, just an example :roll:

Fusion - The thing to try somethig esle than the human-like forms was just a hint for TheOne, cause maybe he could find more scary and twisted form than he painted. I wanted him to let loose his imagination. No offence please, TheOne. ;)
It is absolutely free form nad totally up to you. There are no boudaries that could disqualify your work ;). It just has to be scary ;) Sorry for misunderstanding...

Just paint the scariest looking creature you can imagine. ;)

Androgs- love it man. great job. I like to think of scary being something you can barly see. So not so much scary "monster" but scary "i don't know what that is" yours reminds me of that. because you don't really see the character just a furry siloute. nicly done.

Michael- teddy bears are very very scary. and should not be messed with. :D

This looks like it'll have some more entries than the last one, even though not much time left til the deadline. :)

Androgs --> Very cool entry here, dude! Just as in the self portrait thread - love your lighting, very moody. Yay to that! :D

Ogrim --> Very nice work! The athmosphere breathes creepyness and the ghost does look mighty scary. Love the way you made perfect use of ps' default brushes. :)

Michael --> Man... That teddy's a killer! A killer I tell you!!! :eek: Love the foggy feeling, adds to the scaryness alot, imo. Great brushwork, as usual. ;)

One --> Huge improvement, man! Very nice, quality brush strokes, nice overall feel. Good work! :)

Thought I'd post too. The theme's just too awesome to pass.
So, my personal nightmare is this 'thing'... It's some 'angler dinosaur-deepwaterfish-frog-thing', it inhabits dark alleys of medium-sized cities and feeds on lightwave 3d artists only (me beeing one, yikes... :eek: ). It uses the 'free lightwave!' box ad to attract the artists, then when theyr curiosity brings them to take a closer look, the predator's jaws make short work of them...

3 hours - Painter7 - Trust tablet - 1L of coffee.

Tried out some new shading and composition. Did some mistakes, like the left leg looks weid due to the fact that the upper part is too deep in the shadows and looks like it doesn't exist at all. Could've worked on teh lighting more... Oh well, it's done now. I hope I can bring my skills to an acceptable level til next year, otherwise I'll endup working as a janitor for life. ;P

ok, so this is my entry. This particular painting took me a very long time but within the time constraint. So min. 5 hours and max. 1 day total. I'm not even close to finishing it yet but since im struck with a deadline I have to show something and in doing so I dont think I'll ever get back to completing it :( So anyway I hope you enjoy it and good luck in the voting.......kick ass work everybody!!

Androgs: Haha, this one reminds me of one of thoose old monster movies! On the technical side, I think it look a bit too much like a speed painting :roll: The color and contrast work is great, it just needs some detail and definition. Good work though.

Insect: lol! :crazy: I love how you made it look slimy! :eek: I disagree with the fact that the left leg looks strange. The only thing I would point out is that you can't see the inside of the mouth.:) Good work, and thanks for the kind words! :o

Fusion: Wow, that's a REALLY unusual style. Looks like you could reach out and touch it!:D

Insect-3DT - man... please, look at other posts, read what they say and ADMIT to yourself that you have great skills! Believe me - if I think that something lacks in the pic - I write it. And I think so are everyone else here. Try to see yourself with the eyes of other people... maybe then you'll notice, that you're actually really good.

2-Ogrim - I LOVE the atmosphere in that pic. Nice brush using, too much blur on the tree trunks though. Still - good entry.

Thanks for the encouragements everyone. I'll try (hard) to view my art as good, though I usualy fail as soon as I see how good other people are and especialy when realise that I have to become as good as them to survive. :xx:

Well you certainly earned it! Crazy design no doubt......and the colour themes fits perfectly. I also hope there will be more entries in the 3rd competition, it is quite a learning experience and I think everybody will benifit with an entry.

I on the other hand have one of many things to work on. . . . one of them being completion (and I have a problem with this all my life so it comes natural) I just hope these comps will shape me up better. . . can't wait for the one on Sunday :D
