ok my problem with the last picture from smcars is, if anyone can understand this, the top and left view are in the same angle and dont line up in max, so i had to turn the top view 90 degrees, when i do that the picture is now out of balance and the sizes/scales are no longer lining up or working in max, how can i fix this? thanks

Have you tried editing the texture for the plane you are sticking it on? I always mess with the position and scale of the texture until it lines up with other views, can be quite troublesome at times when views are not same scale/orientation.
Anyne else got any ideas on placing reference plane tex's? I might use some of the tecniques myself..

mmhm thx for the help but i fixed it...i just used 4 planes instead of viewpport background and lined them up...

yeah using a viewport background would pretty much be the worse way to go.
