am guessing u never even touched a 3D program?
if u want a highend 3D software u should consider Maya, 3DstudioMax or XSI.
either of them are more then u'll ever need.u will also need an editing program like Avid (wich is pretty complex) or Adobe premiere. as a newbie i would suggest Adobe premiere wich is more then enough for your needs.
either u buy the program or download demo versions.
ok all the steps in a short version.
1)first of make a script for your movie. and make a storybord.
2)make concept art.
3)start modeling characters and environment in your 3D software.
4)start texturing everyting.
5) rigg your characters for animation.
6)animate your characters (and other stuff)
7)setup your camaras so it match your storybord.
9)edit your rendered stuff in a editing sofware and make a whole movie out of it. render it again in the editing sofware to a Avi whit codec.
woolaa you have your movie.
that are the steps for the basic 3D movie making.
as a newbie and concider that you will learn
as u go it will take probably 6 month or more just to make 1-2min movie.
it all ofcorse depend on nice u what to be. u can make a ugly ass movie whit ****y modeling texturs and animaion and it can be as long as u like after 6month.
i know when a was a complete newbie it took me 6 month to do a 2min movie as the best quality i could perform at that time.
but u must understand that it takes years to develop your 3D skill to a nice level, 3D is very complex.
good luck any how.

welcome to the wonderfull world of 3d, it will drve you crazy, you will spend days and days seemingly making no real progress,
but it IS infinatly cool
i would suggest getting yourself onto a course or something first. how old are you? if you have a-levels or equivilant perhaps you could go to university to learn?
in the meantime, download yourself a trial version of some 3d software, my personal preference is max, but who knows, and have a look, maybe do some tutorials.
be aware it takes a long time to be good at this, and a lot of hard work. ive been into 3d for about a year and i still have an extremely basic knowledge of the subject.
oh, and if your choosing it as a career, your parents will have no idea wtf you are doing. its best just to tell them your are studying computers, which is kinda true.
went on a bit there didnt i?
