PhantomOokami - 2-4 hundred?? my ram was 100 bucks a stick. if your going to up your ram try not to mismatch sticks. ie 1x512 and 1x256, try to keep the memory sticks the same size and brand. Makes it easier to run dual channel and you'll get better performance.
jawahar - its a motherboard ;)
jason - my all around machine is an overclocked barton with pc3200 ram and a radeon (9500 pro w/softmod and overclock).
runs at 2.3 (3500+ish)

I fi remember correctly the athlon 64 has a hypertransport bus... which isnt measured by FSB clock... am i incorrect and lost my memory?

Man, you got ripped off! I can get good ram for cheap... my dad just upgraded his entire computer and it costed him 400$. His video card was the new geforce series and it costed 86$. Theres also this good place in Toronto near China town, its like computer city! Everything is good quality but cheap at the same time. Also, I usually buy parts online, and I don't mean used ones. I guess my family has an easy time finding computer parts.
Anyway, all my slots are full so I'll probably get new ones all together. HUZZAH FOR 15$ MAIL IN REBATE XD 45$ per stick of ram!

Torlok2002 - yes that would be correct, the amd64's have HT (hypertransport)
here is some reading http://www.ukgamer.com/article.php4?id=143&page=1
PhantomOokami - chinatown... sounds like everything might be boot legged. anyways, i got my stuff from the cheapest local "dealer" around. he is cheaper than a-power and anitec.ca (some of the cheapest sites ova here)
the proc also has the cool n quiet feature. the clock speed will range anywhere form 1 gig to 2.2 gigs depending on the demand from the user. the proc speed can change as many times as 30 times a minute.

here are some quotes pulled off forums to maybe make it easier to understand
pulled from this (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=28&threadid=1387933) thread
"64's dont technically have an fsb. it has a 2 way bus system: 800mhz one way, 800Mhz the other way"
FSB = HTT
HTT plus the multiplyer = Hypertransport Bus speed
HTT = 4 x 200 = 800
When they upped the HTT they needed to lower the multipyer in order for it to be stable. Just like oyu need to do with the multiplyer on normal systems..
So in A64s you have 2 multiplyers while other only have one..
There are 3 multipliers in an A64.
1. The logic core multiplier (CPU multiplier).
2. The memory controller multiplier (RAM)
3. The HyperTransport multiplier.
I'll use my A64 3200+ 1MB as the example.
Clock Generator = 200MHz
CPU clock = 200MHz X 10 = 2GHz
RAM clock = 200MHz X 1 = 200MHz(DDR) = 400MHz (PC3200)
HTT clock = 200MHz X 4 = 800MHz(unidirectional) = 1600MHz
HT is not only like FSB but it is how fast the CPU can address the other components of the system

damn you and ur dualies...
Dr.N HT is hyperthreading, HTT is hyper transport but it is often refered to as HT for amd

Uh, it wasn't in China Town, it was OUTSIDE of it. China Town is actually legit and it would be hard to find some bootlegged products.
I don't go for local dealer sites that much.
