Saw this on CGTalk. Looks very good. Did you go off image planes or freestyle?

I like the general proportions of the face, but there are two major areas that need work. The first is the wings of the nostrils; they're too boxy and have funny flat spots. Second is the ears....they don't have enough definition and certainly don't look as "real" as the rest of the bust. The hair was obviously a test (I still an trying to figure out how I'm going to do the hair on my orc) so I won't bother to comment on that at this point. But decent stuff overall.....just needs some fine tuning.

the lack of detail in the ears is mostly due to there being no texturing on them :P and i see where your getting at with the nose but it's too much trouble going back and changing it now X_X

any comments on the hair? i realised the mustaches looked funny in the position they were in.

I don't know much about shag hair so I really can't give advice on how to make it look better except to say that it's too thin and flying off the face in unnatural ways. I really think you shouldn't give up on perfecting the model.....work on the nose and ears.....you'de be surpized at how much better they look with a little work. I don't think texturing is the ideal solution for the ears either; you look like you're trying to mimic cinematic stuff and ALL of Blizzard's detail is from modelling and not texturing........picking up an anatomy book helps out a lot. But keep at it......it's definitely worth finishing proper.

i've done some touch ups and fixes to the hair in places where it didn't look quite right

any comments?

Looks good at the moment mate, I'd say the nose seems a tad too lumpy (Is that a displacement map?), but I don't have any serious crits for now. Keep going!

by god, I have often explained that vikings (I know, he's a dwarf) did not have any horns on their helmets - but this is just insane! :D

nice job so far, the hair needs some work though, I think.

It looks really good with a quick glance, but I really think you need to fix the nose and ears, those are the things that can ruin an image, 3dtotal has awesome tutorials for this kinda stuff ;)

Even if you have to check the maya tutorials for mesh's, it's well worth it.

Edit: I need a drinking horn...

Try to play around in shag to give those hairs some thinner tips. And if you are gonna do the mustache caught on those rings, you could make it a little longer. Otherwise, great job!

got most of the body modelling done

Shorter neck will give him a bulkier look, will make him apear stronger. Also, just a little wider shoulders. Didn't knew you use ornatrix. But I'm sure it should have somewhere there some parameters to do the tip trick.

To be honest I liked it untill I saw the hair, though I LOVE the body. This could be so cool if you get the hair looking right. You need either thinner strands or if the programe your using dosn't let you get thiner strands it may be time to abandon it and either paint/model the hair by hand or start saving for shag. I'm guessing the texture on the face isn't done as it needs a bunch more detail as well. But in any case Love the modeling if you fix a few lil things this will be sick.

At the beginning it seemed to me struggling a bit, but now, awesome work. I'm impressed how this turned out. Can't wait to see the armor textured.

thought i'd give the hair some tweaking, turned the thickness of the hair down but had to increase the hair count to compensate for it :grr: what do u think? better or worse?

hmm, why is the skull making that quizical expression?

It definitly look better but we both now this is not the answear to your problem. Shag has a parameter that just shrinks the tip of the hair, making it into a cone, not the all strand. I'm sure ornatrix must have a similar command. Search the tutorials about that or just e-mail the guys and ask them.

Ok, took a look around an found out the problem to be surprinzingly simple! Its just about a gradient map. You can follow this tutorial for your character:
Here it is (http://www.kopfwerk.com/OX/1.htm)

or just take a look around ornatrix's own tutorials here:

Your on the right track with the hair but follow Avatars advice. :) Also Lighting is very importent with hair. Right now the hair also looks like its unnaturaly protuding from the face. This could be partially do to lighting. Make sure your casting your programs equivilent of Hair shadows, That alone could help make the hair more real looking.

Beautifull! Just make those mustaches longer at the tips so it fits those rings. The plates are awsome! Keep it so!

5 stars. I'm giving you them because your work, aldo following a Blizzard concept, shows the things you can come with in the future.
Do not think your work on this one is over! I see strands of hair passings through the skulls and the textures could use some rust, blood and scraches. Great work. Keep it so!

The blood stains kinda look like dried up grape juice. Maybe a darker red-brown would do the trick?

jcz

nothing tricky, i just modelled out the basic shape and then used a bump map to get the details in the hair

thanks for help :)

Awesome model dude! I like a lot his face.
I think that the metallic pieces may look a little plastic. But still very good.
Nice work!!

Avatar-3DT

I guess the metal is nice, It only needs some good reflection maps and some darker diffuse maps with some rust and dirt on them. Bump mapsshould be more intricate also. You cand achieve this by desaturating the diffuse maps, brighten the almost to white and paint your model on them.
