well there are 3 big 3D software.
Maya, 3Dsmax and XSI.
maya is the king of the hill when its comes to speciall effects in movies whit gollum and so on.
3Dstudio is the king in video games and XSI is someting inbetween.
but the difference between the sofwares is very small so it dosen't matter what u choose.
try them all out and decide what software suit u.
Hi, thanks for your reply, it was really helpful. Do you know if I can download any of these programmes from the internet; or if not where can I buy them?

There are alot of good programs.
Maya, Max, XSI and we can't forget Lightwave.
Maya is a great program no doubt. But latley I've been seeing alot of great stuff being done with MAX and with the new Max 7 coming out I heard they vamped up the animation tools with it as well.
This is just my opinion. I'm going to school now. I feel MAX is more user friendly. Easier to understand.
But then again I'm sure if I started out with Maya I would of said the same thing. :D
I guess it just depends what you feel which programs you connect with. I agree with Blunder take a crack at a few of them to which one you may like.
thanks for your help
