hmm is that not way to much polys?

i suppose, but i dont have a set-amount, so i havent really been bothering with them, i had 2 subdivide it a few times so i could perform DRILLS on the mesh :p the rest will be little, u think there is a lot but i think there is onlt about 2000 so far, so once the whole thing is done it will only be about 7000-10000 :D

Starting to shape up there! Ilove StarWars not to mention giant killing machines of war :) so I'm eager to see how this comes out.
If I were you I would consider building the main hull with splines and add detail from there, but I'm sure you know what you're doing :).

Or you could just add the detail as seperate parts. Of course it's not as 'clean' as it would be as you are doing with all in one mesh. But since an AT-AT isn't likely to be controlled by stretching and squashing bones I'd keep the polycount low by just sticking small pieces to the big one. (which is - coincidentally - also the way the 'originals' were built as well, you know, kit bashing)
Just my € 0.03
Damn, that inflation!

I did an AT-ST (or whatever the smaller, two-legged ones are called) a while ago for absolutely no reason. fun to model though, nothing annoyingly complex and all :D

lol, yeah it reminds me of battle front too.
Really nice model. Are you going to animate it? If so then as someone said earlier you'll want to have the different sections as seperate objects. Keep it up!:D

You do know you need a lot more details to contest the so far best version of this cool model, right? ;)

McGreed, that isn’t a good critic at all...
I am sure that with your models you need to do a lot more to compete with the very best also. In the future let’s not compare peoples work to others, unless they ask us to!
Davie563 I think that you’re doing a fine job so far. This is not a competition with the member of cgtalk :D this is just you own masterpiece. Keep up the good work, and show us some renders, please. I love the Imperial Walkers.

I think this is a great looking model. I bet if you threw a light tracer render on it and gave it that clay render look. It would look just as detailed then the one on cgtalk.
Your doing a great job. I think it looks fabulous.
Keep up the good hussle man.

ok, i got it done to a semi-finished state, im just about to start my 1st project in Uni and the work load is startin to build up, so it looks like this model will have to wait till next summer to see movment,
here are some clays :p ( im pretty happy with the way it is )
my new project is a 3D animation/advert for NationalGeographic or Discovery Channel, based on the Pathfinder mission to mars, so ill have a new thread up soon once i get started on the models, im still in the planning process and stuff :p but its got 2 be finished by Xmas so it will be comin along quike :)
cheers :halo:

greast work so far davie,
i wouldnt really compare even the same model with somebody else version, especially in this case where, considering the scale of the model ,you could just keep adding detail to it all your life:D :p
waiting for updates, details looking good :)

you could just keep adding detail to it all your life
And this comes from an expert in endlessy adding detail, mind you. (jawahar, that's meant as a compliment)
Great job on the Imperial Walker, Davie. I can't believe you built it as fast as you did. Excellent
This is really good davie, Its one of the best design concepts in Sci-Fi as far as im concerned.
Have you considered modelling the snowspeeder as well and creating the scene where the atat gets tripped up by the Harpoon cable ?

lol, its funny u meantion that, im just gettin busy now in Uni, but im thinking about rigging it for next summer, i graduate next summer so ill be workin on my showreel after i finish, i was thinkin about creating a few sec from the batlle of Hoth yeah :p
but ill see how it goes :D but i really enjoyed doing this, and will deffinatly do star wars stuff again soon, posible even Vader himself :p

@USED-3DT
Oh it wasn't because I wanted to discourage him, it was more like an tip for some more referances. You learn from others and if someone makes the same model, you might as well check it out and see how they get around the problems, you might also have.
McGreed, you could have fooled me.. From reading your last post, you weren't encouraging him to study the other model, you said he needed more details so he could contest the other far better model on CGTalk.com..
