View Full Version : SPEEDPAINTING CHALLENGE nr.8!

First of all - I'm sorry veeery much for delay, my internet was down for one day. but I'm here now, so.... HERE WE GO!!

This week we try to paint more complex action scene. The scene should contain two characters of your own design from the last speed challenge. BUT since there weren't many entries, I'm going to give a description that you can use.

"Twins - XXL and Tiny"

Race - humans; occupation - mercenaries.
XXL - warrior; 2 meters 26 cm high ( don't know how much it would be in inches ;) ), very broad shoulders, muscular, wears dark, metal armour, has leather clothes under it. He's smarter than he looks - has thick brow arches, small nose, strong chin; fights with double sword.
Tiny - wizard - 1 m 20 cm, has a small belly, but he's very agile. His magic is very powerfull, he can also fight with a long dagger, that is attached to his belt. He wears a simple, hooded robe and very ornmented belt.

When they fight - they work as one, due to their telepathic bond.'

You can use this description or not :) It's up to you, it's here to help you.
The main object of this challenge is to paint an action scene. Try to stick to the description that follows.

"The "hell" got unleashed."

'The temple was dark; the light beams that fell thru the windows placed high above the ground gave little light. But enough to show the silhouettes that surrounded them. Twins were trapped. This time they won't escape so easily - orcs DO remember their mistakes and this time they were prepared, even if they waited for four years. Orcs guarded "The Eye" - sacred shaphire, that the darker it is, the stronger it shines. Twins stole it once from the same temple - as the contract stated - and gave it to duke, collecting great sum of money, but orcs' agile thief stole it from him.
This time the doors were reinforced from the inside and when the mechanism closed them, the options got very limited. XXL was very calm, as he always was when the thing got very bad. His eyes were slowly and constantly changing the target, searching for weak points in orcish armour and remembering them. He also was very aware of the surroundings, the rubble on the left, the broken column two meters away, the long two rows of the good ones - good cover. There were many of them, but that's even better - one third of them will die from their own strokes. XXL smiled, glaring at the monk standing in front of him. In the meanwhile Tiny prepared the "Fire-Breath", now stood calmly and moved his fingers as he shaped the mana construct for the next spell. He was the first to notice the attack - one of the guards didn't hold his nerve, yelled and attack.
The "hell" got unleashed. The fire ball and double blade moved in great speed to meet their first enemies."

I want you to paint the scene when they stand preparing to battle, the moment of the first attack or a couple of moments after it. The main object is to play with the colours and the lighting.

The prize for winning this AND ANY OTHER challengeis Texture CD of your choice.

Deadline - Sunday the next week 22:00 GMT + 01:00

Have fun. Any questions/comments - please post :).

XXL is about 7 feet tall, at least head and shoulders above the average guy (i.e. compared to you, he's really, really huge). Tiny is less than 4 feet tall; his shoulders come up to your waist, and then his head comes up a little bit farther (if you were walking down the street, you would probably never see him, unless you were looking for dropped change). Tiny comes up to about XXL's waist (or almost to, whatever you want).

The task is soooo hard this time (at least for a guy with no scanner and panel). It seems to me there wont be many posts in this thread. It'll be a real battle. Lets fight. :)

here's my sketch so far. The idea is that you will be able to se an orc reflected in the blade in the forground. I'm not sure I will be able to pull it off without it looking stupid. weel see.

Thanks, CHK :). It's not even half as good as I see it in my head, though. I have to work a lot.

OK, so we have one finished work and a couple of unfinished ones... what should I do? The deadline is in an hour... Do you - authors of unfinished pieces - want people to vote on those unfinished pieces?

Michael
24-10-2004, 06:59 PM
Since there was no answer - TIME TO VOTE!

Deadline for voting - as usually - Wendesday.

Yes, it was a little too time consuming, I've got lots of homework and school, so I was unable to join.

It was a great speedpainting challenge-theme, no doubt.

How about 2 weeks per challenge? ;)

Since I was the only one to finish I vote for me first :) is that allowed?

1. Smack Monkey
2. CHK
3.Pedro

I really enjoy the challenges that include characters. They are more dificult but it is a good way to improve skills.

...and so it goes, another missed challenge. I will see you next week.

"...as what I see in my head..." -- It's really dark in there. No, but it just seemed to be hard to cpature a vision for this challenge. sort of the opposite of the tree challenge. It is something that makes us work a bit hard to get that piece out there. I have a half- sketched piece, that I might throw up. Good work to those of you who finished/started.

First of All - Michael, thanks God your work is not votable :D

Itīs REALLY nice!!! Nice angle, nice lighting, nice everything...

Second of All I would like to say Iīm really sorry for not making it in time. In a week or so my second doughter is about to be born, so my wife and I spent the end of this week making the final arrengments on her bedroom.

Also, if I stay out for the next challenges is because Iīm baby-sitting ;)

Well, back to the subject!

1 - CHK - once again for the great mood!

2 - Smack Monkey - I was in a serious doubt here. You really are the only one who finished in time and got a nice image. But in the end the mood and composition CHK got in his work made me vote for him. But I would like to say : Congratulations man! You did it on time!

3 - Do I really have to vote for myself? In case of such few entries we should vote only two... Anyway... Pedro Toledo :o

Thatīs it guys!

Cya!
