yeah i thought i'd give game design a chance and see what it's like to model a game model. anyway i'm making a storm trooper and i've set my limit at 8000 polys. here is what i have so far, i don't have all the details in the legs yet, but i'm going to make the whole model very basic, then go back and add detail. then skin.
anyway i was just wondering if this is good for low poly
//edit: i'm currently at 500 tris
StormTroopers are my favorite star wars characters!!!
So far I like how clean the model looks, specially the feet. I don't want to upset you or anything but 8000 is just way too high for a game model. Try going to 6000 or less. Or wait until half life 2 comes out to see if it really can hold that much.

Aaah! Faceless minions.
I love 'em.
Looks good but I agree. 8000 polys sounds like a lot.

ok thanks guys, i guess i'll try to shoot for around 6000 then. should still be plenty of polys to play with. yeah just looked at some information, doom 3 characters are 2000-6000 polys. somewhere else i found it said 10,000 and i thought that had to be wrong.

i added some more detail to the legs..made them less hexagonal so i'm currently at 800 tris. heres a back view, hopefully i'll get more done tonight.

hm, no C&C? :(
um i fixed the chest torso area, gave him an ass..because he didn't have much back there, and made the head..which was rather easy.. i was thinking it would take forever. anyway the poly counts are on the images

For the uv mapping, most of this guy is going to be shiny white plastic which could just be done as a material, leaving you just some small detail areas to unwrap and texture.
Could save you a lot of time unless of course you are planning on putting him into a game engine, then you will have to do the whole thing.
Either way, GOOD LUCK, and just be patient. The first time is always the worst.
