3dsmax LAYERING? 101 HELP :)

hi good day to all, i would like to inquire about 3dsmax layers. i later found out that its essential in animating an expanding or decreasing object. like growing tree branches form nothing to many branches.

unfortunately, i have no idea on how and where to start. i would really appreciate it if you guys can point me out to some tutorial or info regarding this topic.

what do you mean layering?

If you are talking about controlling the layers, then you just create a new layer that automaticly contains the selected objects. If you want to have the objects "a" and "b" moved from first layer to another etc., you just select them and create a new layer..

actually i have no idea how it works. but a friend of mine just told me that shapeshifting is only possible with this process. i dont even know what layering is. pls help me. lolz
