First of all just a quick question...are there any renderers out there which can accurately model all of the various properties of light (at once)?
- destructive and constructive wave interference
- color related to wavelength...and index of refraction
- diffraction, evidenced by single/double/n slit interference
- refraction, evidenced by Newton's rings in thin-film interference, and light separation in prisms, and telescopes
finalRender stage-1 looks like it can do all of this but, I don't know for sure
Anyway...I'm trying to use the caustics in mental ray (3dsm7) and having complete failure! I know mental ray can't do 90% of the thigns I listed but the sample pictures show it doing reflection and some pale attempt at refraction.
1) mental ray renderer selected
2) caustics enabled in render dialog
3) double sided sphere encompassing entire surfacr to absorb waylaid photons
4) light aimed through glass lense at plane
5) plane and sphere double sided, both set to recieve caustics
6) lense set to generate and recieve caustics
7) light source set to generate caustics
8) mental ray glass (physics phen) material applied to lense, mental ray DGS applied to other things...also tried using a default material instead of DGS...tried using all default materials...
no matter what I do, it always says "no photons stored" in anything and won't even render
