Hey guys, well here is something that I just made (finished last night). It took 20 hours and 25 minutes to render, my longest render in my life lol. Anyways, it was made in 3dsmax and some post work in Photoshop. I am only 14 (I know...I am really young) and im trying to get better all the time. C&C appreciated! thanks :D

Good job. I'm only sixteen but I've been working with 3ds max 6 for about a year now. Did you use any plugins when you made this?

I think its a bit long for this 20 hours, many people would have done it in 5 hours, but the total render is very good :). I like the materials, and stuff. BTW 25, minutes is very short for this kind of scene. Rendererd with what? Scanline?

looks pretty good, wouldn't wanna get infected by that :D

LOL, i asked and it was 20 hours render time!!
i see you used the electron material from the finalshaderds dude, nice effect :)

next time make sure you're settings are set correct, cause 20 hours is really long for this image, maybe because of the DOF

DOF doesn't take long, only a few seconds.

hmm, pretty good...It shouldn't have taken that long to render though, I mean 20 hours = a bit too long....

thanks for all the comments guys! haha, no it was rendered with finalrender. DOF does take a really long time to render with electron shaders...i dont know why though :D. it also has to do with all the GI and stuff. at the time i rendered this image, i had 640mb of ram on my pc...and today i just bought another 512mb so now i have a gig or ram! yay for me lol.

im also buying some radeon 9600 with 256mb...and its like 10 times better than the one i have lol. it was really frustrating for me while i was rendering this because im not personally a very patient person :D so i was playing my PS2 and Gamecube and talking to some of my friends and stuff while rendering it. haha sorry for talking so long so im gonna shut up now. thanks! :D

I think the bump maps are a little bit too strong and 20 hrs rendering time?!

I can render something like that in less than 5 mins ;)

and BTW whats your CPU's speed?

right now i have an AMD Anthlon XP 2200+ @1.8 ghz. but im probably gonna buy a pentium 4 w/ hyper threading thats around or more than 3 ghz. but when i do that i will have to buy a new motherboard :D

I like the scene, the DoF does indeed take that much time, speaking from experience here ;)

the only thing I kinda dont like is the typography on it, arial font (looks like it to me) just wont go well with this imo

i agree with psistorm on this one, it needs a more modern font... tried a nintendo gamecube one ?? :P

It's a very nice image, only a little bit too blurry for my taste. . Rendertimes are way too high. As mentioned already, similar images can be rendered under 10 minutes. Usually displacement mapping and DOF settings slow rendering down a lot. Maybe you should look into these settings.
This image reminds me of some other great renders on this subject (see http://www.bt-3d.de/div/micro/se02.html or http://www.bt-3d.de/div/micro/se04.html for example, which made it to the Expose book). Are you in any way inspired by these images?

hey Spliney...lol actually before i made this picture i was looking at this guy's stuff, and thats what did inspire me to try to make something like it (but of course i failed lol)...i especially want to make something like this:

i will be really happy if i can make something such as that :D
