there's something I don't get, whenever I visit a TV store they always ahve several TV's showing the same channel and the widescreen TV's always look like ****, it's stretched out, the quality is junk and the color is way off, widescreen doesn't make sense to me, can someone explain, cause I'm missing something here

is that the same about big cars/pickups? coz i went to america and they are HUGE! (the cars that is)

Clawda, they are designed for widescreen format channels (i think hdtv has that but ive never been able to see it) so watching DVD's doesnt have those black stripes at the top and bottom :) normal tv looks **** because.. well frankly it is :D

wouldnt mind playing some HL2 on that screen though :D

This is my guess: If you havent had a widescreen TV before you wont know that there are different settings for the way they handle the discplay of the picture. They have probably setup the TVs "wrong", or they just might appear wrong by what happens to be showing when you were in the store. TV channels will sometimes show widescreen and non-widescreen things without giving you any warning which is which

This is why these TVs have an Auto feature, which is meant to make it so you dont have to bother with keep changing the setings. Stretching the picture (or other choices) avoids you getting big black lines down the left and right when a non-widescreen picture is being shown, but the side effect is that the picture can sometimes look a bit weird until you get used to it. When you stand it next to a normal TV showing the same picture you probably notice the alterations its done to the picture much more

I have my widescreen TV set to auto as its just too much hastle to keep altering the aspect ratios. When it stretches a picture it only takes a few seconds to get used to it.

I hope this helps
