Hi all, my paining instructor mentioned a program to me called Genuine Fractals, so I had to try it out. It's difficult to descibe how well it works so here's a sample.

This picture is just a random image of a business man. I used Genuine Fractals to increase it's size 1000%.

Sorry about that, it's working now. The program Genuine Fractals is a smart upsampling program, it uses fractals to upsample an image (or something like that) in a way that looks almost correct. Here's the webpage. (http://www.lizardtech.com/)

Olympus, not trying to be rude, I guess this program is great if you need a program, but I think your better off with Photoshop or PaintShopPro! And besides, the picture is only good as your pixel readout in your Monitor!
If your Professor mentioned this program, it must be something else that he likes about it?

To be honest, i suggest you read the website salido , psp or photoshop is comepletly different to this software, and it serves its purpose well.

if you were to take a headshot photo like the above, and a client asked you to print it on 6 by 6 metres., and you said you'd do it in ps , by 'scaling it up' , you be fired..,
this software allows you to scale it up with little loss of quality. and for a 6 by 6 metre billboard the quality would be fine when using genuine fractals.

@ cgstripe - yes, exactly.
What my professor used it for was basicaly what you descibed, blowing up a small image for a client from about 200 px by 250 px to a full wall sized print.
