View Full Version : Mental ray caustics problem

Hi,
I'm trying to do a bit of testing with caustics to get myself familiar with mental ray options. I have a simple scene with boxes arranged closely so they make a room and a box with bump and raytrace to bounce the photons. Every time I try to render it I get

RCGI 0.0 error 361053: no photons stored after emitting 1000000 photons (canceling emission job)

This is one solution I found on the net

That's an easy problem to get, and I don't think the manuals say anything about it... how stupid.
But the main problem is that your "Reflected color" for your shader is set to black, so black photons go trough and illuminate nothing, so no photon info get's stored... easy.
So, to get caustics working, just pump up the "Reflected color" attribute.

But I can't find this "reflected color".

Under light options, mental ray Ind.Ilum. tab there is that automatic option on, and it actually works if I turn it off, but if I turn that lower "on" button on, I get the same error again. So I can only get this one caustic solution and I can't change it's values and it looks ugly.
Anyone had this same problem?

Thanks in advance
